Medical imaging modalities, including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-rays, and ultrasound, are extensively employed in the healthcare industry for diagnostic purposes. Noise, on the other hand, can disturb these approaches and lead to inaccurate diagnosis. Due to this problem, the significance of noise removal technologies has grown in the field of medical imaging, specifically for the examination and understanding of medical images and anatomical structures. To tackle these challenges, a variety of denoising techniques have been developed, such as the Weiner filter (WF), Gaussian filter, and median filter. This work employs a Deep Learning (DL) method known as Convolutional Autoencoder (CAE) to remove noise from medical images. We gather chest X-ray images for analysis and focus on common noise types that affect medical images, such as Poisson and Gaussian noise. We evaluate the effectiveness of the suggested denoising method CAE by comparing it to the commonly employed WF methodology. The Structural Similarity Index (SSIM) and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) are employed to assess and compare the performance of the WF and CAE in reducing Poisson and Gaussian noise. The study's findings indicate that the suggested denoising method based on CAE shows promising results in terms of improving quality. © 2024 IEEE.

MI-MCF: A Mutual Information-Based Multilabel Causal Feature Selection

Multilabel causal feature selection has attracted extensive attention in recent years. Current multilabel causal feature selection algorithms typically employ existing Markov Blanket (MB) search methods for the initial construction of the MB, followed by further optimization. These methods generally treat labels and features as equally weighted nodes during the MB construction process. However, the search for spouse sets often involves extensive conditional independence (CI) tests, which are time-consuming. Furthermore, they fail to consider the distinct contributions of labels and features to the target nodes. Information theory is often used to evaluate the contributions of nodes. Inspired by this, we carry out a theoretical investigation into the causal relationships within multilabel datasets and propose the mutual information-based multilabel causal feature selection (MI-MCF) method. First, MI-MCF employs MI and conditional MI (CMI) instead of CI test when constructing the MB of labels without incurring significant time overhead. Then, MI-MCF uses MI to compare the contributions of features and labels to the target nodes. This helps identify which nodes should be retained when recovering features hindered by strong label correlation. Finally, MI-MCF eliminates spurious nodes through a symmetry check. Experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate that MI-MCF can autonomously determine the optimal number of selected features and consistently outperform compared methods. With fast development of Cyber Physical System, the variety and volume of data generated from different edge servers are fairly considerable. Mining and exploiting the data would definitely bring huge advantages. However, there are two major issues exposed in the process. First, utilizing the data with high efficiency is challenging in edge computing environment. Second, data from multiple edge servers often contain sensitive information such as user preferences, which will give rise to privacy breach risks when using the data. Locality-Sensitive Hashing and amplified technology are utilized for dealing with two problems. In this paper, we propose a novel privacy-protection approach named SRchain-LSH in edge computing environment which is based on amplified Locality-Sensitive Hashing technique. In order to verify high accuracy and efficiency of our proposal, large sets of experiments are conducted. According to experimental results, our proposal shows better performance than those of comparative methods in terms of MAE , RMSE and time costs. For our method, the best value of MAE is about 0.41 and time cost is about 0.1 seconds, which are more accurate and efficient than comparative methods. © 2022 IEEE.

Analyzing and evaluating students' progress in any learning environment is stressful and time consuming if done using traditional analysis methods. This is further exasperated by the increasing number of students due to the shift of focus toward integrating the Internet technologies in education and the focus of academic institutions on moving toward e-Learning, blended, or online learning models. As a result, the topic of student performance prediction has become a vibrant research area in recent years. To address this, machine learning and data mining techniques have emerged as a viable solution. To that end, this work proposes the use of deep learning techniques (CNN and RNN-LSTM) to predict the students' performance at the midpoint stage of the online course delivery using three distinct datasets collected from three different regions of the world. Experimental results show that deep learning models have promising performance as they outperform other optimized traditional ML models in two of the three considered datasets while also having comparable performance for the third dataset. © 2023 IEEE.

Generative AI for Energy Harvesting Internet of Things Network: Fundamental, Applications, and Opportunities

Internet of Things (IoT) devices are typically powered by small-sized batteries with limited energy storage capacity, requiring regular replacement or recharging. To reduce costs and maintain connectivity in IoT networks, energy harvesting technologies are regarded as a promising solution. Notably, due to its robust analytical and generative capabilities, generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has demonstrated significant potential in optimizing energy harvesting networks. Therefore, we discuss key applications of GenAI in improving energy harvesting wireless networks for IoT in this article. Specifically, we first review the key technologies of GenAI and the architecture of energy harvesting wireless networks. Then, we show how GenAI can address different problems to improve the performance of the energy harvesting wireless networks. Subsequently, we present a case study of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled data collection and energy transfer. The case study shows distinctively the necessity of energy harvesting technology and verify the effectiveness of GenAI-based methods. Finally, we discuss some important open directions. Accurate and quick diagnosis of normal brain tissue Glioma, Meningioma, and Pituitary Tumors is crucial for optimal treatment planning and improved medical results. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is widely used as a non-invasive diagnostic tool for detecting brain abnormalities, including tumors. However, manual interpretation of MRI scans is often time-consuming, prone to human error, and dependent on highly specialized expertise. This paper proposes an advanced AI-driven technique to detecting glioma, meningioma, and pituitary brain tumors using YoloV11 and YoloV8 deep learning models. Methods: Using a transfer learning-based fine-tuning approach, we integrate cutting-edge deep learning techniques with medical imaging to classify brain tumors into four categories: No-Tumor, Glioma, Meningioma, and Pituitary Tumors. Results: The study utilizes the publicly accessible CE-MRI Figshare dataset and involves fine-tuning pre-trained models YoloV8 and YoloV11 of 99.49% and 99.56% accuraies;and customized CNN accuracy of 96.98%. The results validate the potential of CNNs in achieving high precision in brain tumor detection and classification, highlighting their transformative role in medical imaging and diagnostics. © 2025, CC0.

Blockchain-enabled Federated Learning (BFL) enables model updates to be stored in blockchain in a reliable manner. However, one problem is the increase of the training latency due to the mining process. Moreover, mobile devices have energy and CPU constraints. Therefore, the machine learning model owner (MLMO) needs to decide the data and energy that the mobile devices use for the training and determine the block generation rate to minimize the system latency and mining cost while achieving the target accuracy. Under the uncertainty of BFL, we propose to use deep reinforcement learning to find the optimal decisions for the MLMO. © 2019 IEEE.
