Mathematics is often considered a boring and challenging subject, which makes it difficult for educators to attract marginalized children to learn and embrace it. Therefore, this article discusses the development and evaluation of a mobile game application called Math-Hero, designed to enhance marginalized children's mathematical skills through an interactive, engaging, and heartfelt learning environment. To examine the effectiveness of Math-Hero, an online survey method was employed to collect data from 32 respondents. The evaluation model was developed following the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Three constructs - Perceived Usefulness (PU), Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU), and Intention to Adopt (ITA) - were examined quantitatively using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. Additionally, qualitative data were analyzed using thematic and sentiment analyses. The results of quantitative analyses indicate that Math-Hero is easy to use, beneficial, and the users intend to use it in the future. Its ease of use has a positive correlation with usefulness and intention to adopt it. The sentiment analysis also supports the findings, as most of the users have a positive and neutral perception of Math-Hero. Although Math-Hero has shown promise in improving marginalized children's mathematical skills, there is still room for improvement to make it even more robust and effective in the future. Moreover, further research is necessary to empirically demonstrate the effectiveness of Math-Hero among diverse marginalized communities, beyond just Semai youngsters.

Integrating Deep Learning with Fundus and Optical Coherence Tomography for Cardiovascular Disease Prediction

Early identification of patients at risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) is crucial for effective preventive care, reducing healthcare burden, and improving patients’ quality of life. This study demonstrates the potential of retinal optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging in conjunction with fundus photographs for identifying future adverse cardiac events. We utilized data from 977 patients who experienced CVD within a 5-year interval post-image acquisition, alongside 1,877 control participants without CVD, totaling 2,854 subjects. We propose a novel binary classification network based on a Multi-channel Variational Autoencoder (MCVAE), which learns a latent embedding of patients’ fundus and OCT images to classify individuals into two groups: those likely to develop CVD in the future and those who are not. Our model, trained on both imaging modalities, achieved promising results (AUROC 0.78 ± 0.02, accuracy 0.68 ± 0.002, precision 0.74 ± 0.02, sensitivity 0.73 ± 0.02, and specificity 0.68 ± 0.01), demonstrating its efficacy in identifying patients at risk of future CVD events based on their retinal images. This study highlights the potential of retinal OCT imaging and fundus photographs as cost-effective, non-invasive alternatives for predicting cardiovascular disease risk. The widespread availability of these imaging techniques in optometry practices and hospitals further enhances their potential for large-scale CVD risk screening. Our findings contribute to the development of standardized, accessible methods for early CVD risk identification, potentially improving preventive care strategies and patient outcomes. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Multi-view clustering (MvC) aims to integrate information from different views to enhance the capability of the model in capturing the underlying data structures. The widely used joint training paradigm in MvC is potentially not fully leverage the multi-view information, since the imbalanced and under-optimized view-specific features caused by the uniform learning objective for all views. For instance, particular views with more discriminative information could dominate the learning process in the joint training paradigm, leading to other views being under-optimized. To alleviate this issue, we first analyze the imbalanced phenomenon in the joint-training paradigm of multi-view clustering from the perspective of gradient descent for each view-specific feature extractor. Then, we propose a novel balanced multi-view clustering (BMvC) method, which introduces a view-specific contrastive regularization (VCR) to modulate the optimization of each view. Concretely, VCR preserves the sample similarities captured from the joint features and view-specific ones into the clustering distributions corresponding to view-specific features to enhance the learning process of view-specific feature extractors. Additionally, a theoretical analysis is provided to illustrate that VCR adaptively modulates the magnitudes of gradients for updating the parameters of view-specific feature extractors to achieve a balanced multi-view learning procedure. In such a manner, BMvC achieves a better trade-off between the exploitation of view-specific patterns and the exploration of view-invariance patterns to fully learn the multi-view information for the clustering task. Finally, a set of experiments are conducted to verify the superiority of the proposed method compared with state-of-the-art approaches on eight benchmark MvC datasets. The dynamic nature of cyber threats necessitates the development of novel approaches to strengthen database system security. The novel method for fortifying defenses against SQL injection attacks—a pervasive and ongoing danger in the field of cybersecurity—is presented in this study. The suggested methodology creates a strong and adaptable defense mechanism by seamlessly integrating cutting-edge honeypot technology with current SQL injection mitigation techniques. Our approach, which we have named HoneySQLGuard, uses carefully con- structed honeypot tables inside the database system. These tables serve as sly bait, drawing potential attackers’ attention away from genuine data and toward themselves. By utilizing the most recent developments in technology, Honey SQL Guard surpasses the limitations of conventional signature-based detection techniques and is able to adjust to changing attack strategies via anomaly and machine learning. The honeypot tables are cleverly incorporated within the database architecture, making them invisible to an outside observer when compared to real tables. The technology immediately recognizes and isolates unusual behavior suggestive of SQL injection attempts by closely monitoring and analyzing query patterns. Furthermore, HoneySQLGuard has real-time reporting and alerting functions that guarantee an early reaction to any possible intrusions. Extensive testing is conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed solution, which shows it can dramatically lower the success rate of SQL injection attacks while keeping false-positive rates low. This study advances the subject by providing a thorough and flexible method for fortifying databases against SQL injection attacks, in line with the industry's increasing demand for robust cybersecurity defenses.

Lc-Stream: An Elastic Scheduling Strategy with Latency Constrained in Geo-Distributed Stream computing Environments

An effective scheduling strategy is critical for achieving better performance in real-time stream processing systems. How to process real-time data stream quickly and efficiently is always a challenging task, especially when clusters are collaborating in a Geo-Distributed computing environment. To address this challenge, we propose an elastic scheduling strategy with latency constrained in Geo-Distributed stream computing environments called Lc-Stream. This paper focuses on the following aspects: (1) An optimized data stream redirection method that is proposed based on queuing network algorithm, along with a computing resource model, a latency constrained scheduling model and a communication energy consumption model. (2) An updated node selection method based on the inter-layer task correlation, to reduce the communication latency between groups at the executor granularity. (3) A network cluster distribution for Geo-Distributed computing environment to ensure energy saving under low transmission latency. Our experimental results demonstrate that Lc-Stream reduces the overall latency of typical Geo-Distributed multitasking topology by more than 19%, and increases the throughput by more than 37%. Compared with the existing strategies in Storm, it also helps balance the load between systems and avoid excessive use of computing nodes. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Discrete chaotic systems based on memristors exhibit excellent dynamical properties and are more straightforward to implement in hardware, making them highly suitable for generating cryptographic keystreams. However, most existing memristor-based chaotic systems rely on a single memristor. This paper introduces a novel discrete chaotic system employing dual memristors, named the 3D memristive cubic map with dual discrete memristors (3D-MCM). The 3D-MCM system demonstrates richer and more intricate dynamical behaviors compared to its single-memristor counterparts, as verified through bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponent spectra, and complexity analyses. Notably, the system exhibits coexisting attractors, substantially enhancing its dynamical complexity. Hardware implementation of the 3D-MCM attractors confirms its feasibility for industrial applications. To illustrate the system's potential in encryption tasks, this study integrates the quaternary-based permutation and dynamic emanating diffusion (QPDED-IE) scheme for image encryption with the *** results demonstrate that the QPDED-IE scheme based on the 3D-MCM exhibits strong diffusion and confusion properties, effectively resisting cryptanalytic attacks. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) involves collecting and analyzing cyber security data using advanced algorithms and rigorous techniques to identify and address potential threats, harmful incidents, and existing vulnerabilities that cybercriminals exploit. Threat intelligence facilitates faster and well-informed security decisions while understanding threat actors' motives, targets, and attack patterns. Defenders employ diverse strategies to prevent, detect, and disrupt incoming attacks. However, traditional security solutions are inadequate for today's complex security landscape, often proving ineffective against the rapid proliferation of cyber threats. Automating information sharing related to cyber threats presents new challenges for researchers and analysts, requiring them to detect deceptive practices and produce accurate, timely, and pertinent intelligence. This research explores the profound impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in cyber security, including their various types, applications, challenges, and promising future. Leveraging AI knowledge, particularly ML technology, organizations can strengthen their defenses against malicious threats, reduce cyber risks, and establish a dynamic, automated, and up-to-date security system by analyzing security data.

Citations in scholarly work serve the essential purpose of acknowledging and crediting the original sources of knowledge that have been incorporated or referenced. Depending on their surrounding textual context, these citations are used for different motivations and purposes. Large Language Models (LLMs) could be helpful in capturing these fine-grained citation information via the corresponding textual context, thereby enabling a better understanding towards the literature. Furthermore, these citations also establish connections among scientific papers, providing high-quality inter-document relationships and human-constructed knowledge. Such information could be incorporated into LLMs pre-training and improve the text representation in LLMs. Therefore, in this paper, we offer a preliminary review of the mutually beneficial relationship between LLMs and citation analysis. Specifically, we review the application of LLMs for in-text citation analysis tasks, including citation classification, citation-based summarization, and citation recommendation. We then summarize the research pertinent to leveraging citation linkage knowledge to improve text representations of LLMs via citation prediction, network structure information, and inter-document relationship. We finally provide an overview of these contemporary methods and put forth potential promising avenues in combining LLMs and citation analysis for further investigation. A Framework for Improving the Reliability of Black-box Variational Inference

Black-box variational inference (BBVI) now sees widespread use in machine learning and statistics as a fast yet flexible alternative to Markov chain Monte Carlo methods for approximate Bayesian inference. However, stochastic optimization methods for BBVI remain unreliable and require substantial expertise and hand-tuning to apply effectively. In this paper, we propose Robust and Automated Black-box VI (RABVI), a framework for improving the reliability of BBVI optimization. RABVI is based on rigorously justified automation techniques, includes just a small number of intuitive tuning parameters, and detects inaccurate estimates of the optimal variational approximation. RABVI adaptively decreases the learning rate by detecting convergence of the fixed–learning-rate iterates, then estimates the symmetrized Kullback–Leibler (KL) divergence between the current variational approximation and the optimal one. It also employs a novel optimization termination criterion that enables the user to balance desired accuracy against computational cost by comparing (i) the predicted relative decrease in the symmetrized KL divergence if a smaller learning were used and (ii) the predicted computation required to converge with the smaller learning rate. We validate the robustness and accuracy of RABVI through carefully designed simulation studies and on a diverse set of real-world model and data examples. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. Learnable Graph Convolutional Network and Feature Fusion for Multi-view Learning

In practical applications, multi-view data depicting objectives from assorted perspectives can facilitate the accuracy increase of learning algorithms. However, given multi-view data, there is limited work for learning discriminative node relationships and graph information simultaneously via graph convolutional network that has drawn the attention from considerable researchers in recent years. Most of existing methods only consider the weighted sum of adjacency matrices, yet a joint neural network of both feature and graph fusion is still under-explored. To cope with these issues, this paper proposes a joint deep learning framework called Learnable Graph Convolutional Network and Feature Fusion (LGCN-FF), consisting of two stages: feature fusion network and learnable graph convolutional network. The former aims to learn an underlying feature representation from heterogeneous views, while the latter explores a more discriminative graph fusion via learnable weights and a parametric activation function dubbed Differentiable Shrinkage Activation (DSA) function.
