With increasing requirements for reliability, availability, efficiency, effectiveness, productivity, and security of the system, the importance of diagnostics and maintenance is also increasing. E-maintenance as a leading concept for maintenance management has so far primarily involved the use of domain-specific technical language processing (TLP) techniques on historical case data. Due to its popularity, generative AI (GAI) with large language models (LLMs) is starting to be used more and more in various technical areas, thus starting to take an increasingly important place in diagnostics and maintenance. Starting from the fact that the rapid development of information and communication technologies (ICT) was the main factor in the emergence and development of the concept of e-maintenance, the importance of the potential more serious application of all forms of generative AI in the context is clear. This is especially pronounced in cases of difficult or impossible access to the location of components or an uncertain situation related to the type of process (e.g., nuclear, aeronautical, space, offshore). Autonomous vehicles, vessels, and aircraft (as an indispensable part of today's intelligent transport systems) are certainly a leading example of these cases. Regardless of the level of autonomy, these systems are extremely complex and difficult to maintain and represent a clear challenge for the application of new approaches. Therefore, the authors of the paper propose the use of middleware that would enable the integration of various GAI tools, algorithms, and models to increase the effectiveness of diagnostics and maintenance as close as possible to real-time. However, the exact extent of the possibilities and limitations of this approach has yet to be determined. © 2024 IEEE.

Navigating through oceans is challenging. Sailors are disadvantaged in determining the most appropriate and safe path, free from hurdles and extreme weather conditions, especially on pitch-dark nights. Ships rely on their communication with satellites for navigation. When this connection breaks, the ship loses its ability to navigate and follow the required path. In such scenarios, the Geographical Information System (GIS) and Satellite Imagery-based algorithms are best suited to assist. It is necessary to focus on cloud behavior to ensure the success of ocean endeavors. Cloud Detection is performed by the methods of K-Means clustering and MRCNN. The approach of Mean Path Adjustment (MPA) is used to trace the center of mass to predict Cloud Motion;thereby, building a convolutional LSTM model for Cloud Nowcasting. Collectively, these methods help in detecting clouds, predicting their motion, and helping sailors decide the route to follow, based on the weather conditions. This system works well when the communication between the ship and satellite breaks. A high similarity index of 0.8363 is achieved with the test images. © Grenze Scientific Society, 2024.

The global demographic landscape is undergoing a significant transformation, characterized by a rising elderly population and an increasing number of people requiring rehabilitation and ambulatory assistance. This study introduces an innovative, ecofriendly smart walker designed to assist physically disadvantaged individuals in navigating their environment safely and independently. The smart walker features continuous user tracking;autonomous return-to-user navigation;mecanum wheels;and motors facilitating movement, significantly reducing leg efforts. It operates in two modes, manual and automatic, and is equipped with an Intel RealSense D455 camera, Raspberry Pi, and Arduino Mega 2560, among other components. It additionally comes with fail-safe measures for user safety. © 1988-2012 IEEE.

This work presents an innovative algorithm demonstrating the effectiveness of zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) in network security. By integrating Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA) for key generation, the algorithm showcases their applicability in enhancing security measures within 6G networks. It highlights the utility of ZKPs in bolstering data privacy and security by enabling entities to validate knowledge without compromising sensitive information. Blockchain technology provides a safe, transparent, and effective platform that might completely transform public financing. Each transaction is tamper-proof since it is permanently stored with unique identities and timestamps. Furthermore, agreements are automated via smart contracts, which simplifies procedures and lowers errors usually related to human verification. This encourages accountability and confidence inside the system. For platforms that receive public financing, transparency is crucial. This need is met by this blockchain-based online service, which offers a safe and decentralized environment. Donors can simply monitor the initiatives they support and make sure their money is going to where it's supposed to. Should a project be cancelled, the program enables contributors to receive their money back right away. The application caters to two user groups: campaign creators and donors. Donors have access to other fundraising campaigns, project updates, and insightful information. The website gives campaign designers the ability to monitor the status of their initiative and compare their results to those of other campaigns. This blockchain-powered online application provides a stable, open, and safe environment for public fundraising. By empowering both creators and donors, it promotes an ecosystem that is more reliable and efficient. © 2024 IEEE.

Corresponding colors data are necessary to evaluate and improve chromatic adaptation models. Virtual reality (VR) technologies offer a promising and flexible tool for studying chromatic adaptation. This work revisits the classic technique of haploscopic matching to collect corresponding colors data using VR. A virtual environment was designed in which the same visual scene was lit with a light of a different chromaticity for each eye, and an exploratory study was conducted, collecting corresponding colors data from 10 participants (5 color stimuli, 3 trials for each). The averaged CIEDE2000 standard deviation for individual observers, across 5 colors, was 2.94, showing adequate precision despite the low amount of repetitions. This work represents a proof of concept for an efficient and realistic VR haploscopic matching paradigm, which may be extended by future studies employing display color characterization and greater numbers of participants and trials. © 2024 Society for Imaging Science and Technology. The paper explores the application of machine learning algorithms for network traffic intrusion detection with the aim of enhancing the security of information systems. More specifically, it provides a comprehensive insight into the current state of the art in intrusion detection, and gives a review of relevant literature, research methodology, implementation of various machine learning models, and analysis of the obtained results. Our findings indicate the outstanding potential of models, such as decision trees, in identifying malicious activities, offering valuable guidance for the development of more efficient systems for network security. © 2024 University of Split, FESB.

A proposed strut efficiency factor for strut-and-tie design of steel fibre-reinforced concrete

Strut-and-tie model (STM) is a lower-bound plastic theory to achieve force equilibrium. It uses a simplified truss analogy method to define the load transfer mechanism in the disturbed region (D-region) in concrete structures. STM was mostly applied in the design of conventional reinforced concrete (RC), and there were few discussions on the use of STM for newer concrete technology, e.g., steel fibre-reinforced concrete (SFRC). SFRC presents opportunities in reducing web reinforcements in serviceability checks and in improving the ductility of D-regions. In this paper, a strut efficiency factor for STM is proposed for the design of SFRC by collecting a database of SFRC deep beams. It was discovered that the strut efficiency factor best fits with a function of the product of the fibre factor and concrete cylinder compressive strength. Baseline deep beam numerical models were developed and calibrated with the experimental load-displacement graphs collected through literature. A parametric study with variables such as concrete cylinder compressive strengths, fibre volumes and strut angles were investigated. The proposed strut efficiency factor was found to have a peak capacity lower than the ultimate load capacity computed in the calibrated numerical models, which justified the safe use of STM as a lower-bound plastic method in SFRC. © 2022

Web applications testing techniques: a systematic mapping study

Due to the importance of web application testing techniques for detecting faults and assessing quality attributes, many research papers were published in this field. For this reason, it became essential to analyse, classify and summarise the research in the field. To achieve this goal, this research conducted a systematic mapping study on 98 research papers in the field of web applications testing published between 2008 and 2021. The results showed that the most commonly used web applications testing techniques in literature are model-based testing and security testing. Besides, the most commonly used models in model-based testing are finite-state machines. The most targeted vulnerability in security testing is SQL injection. Test automation is the most targeted testing goal in both model-based and security testing. For other web applications testing techniques, the main goals of testing were test automation, test coverage, and assessing security quality attributes.
