Several publications such as media articles have pointed out key technical challenges facing Uganda's National Transmission Backbone Infrastructure (NBI) project. The challenges emanate from the use of G652 instead of other fiber-optic cable types like the G655 fiber-optic cable. However, the articles do not suggest ways of addressing the technical limitations of the project. This paper uses an exploratory, quantitative and analytical approach to evaluate the goals of the project, and the already deployed part of the infrastructure, and compares the evaluation results, against the technical capability of the backbone, based on global backbone infrastructure performance benchmarks. A survey of previous work and results from related studies form inputs to a grounded theory-based hypothesis formulation. The paper highlights the national demand of bandwidth by all anticipated users such as government ministries, universities, schools, health centers, administrative headquarters and private sector entities. The findings of the study are validated through comparisons with results of investigations carried out on similar projects in developing countries. Finally the paper suggests ways of addressing the challenges of the NBI project using alternatives such as the use of Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) repeaters after shorter distances, leasing bandwidth from private companies to cater for the deficit, use of microwave links for redundancy, setting up a Network Operation Center (NOC) for operation and maintenance, and deployment of WiMAX as a last mile solution.

Energy storage system is an integral part of renewable energy utilization process. Different articles, reports and examples shows the importance of storage but to make a sustainable system that generates electricity from renewable energy a feasibility study on generated energy cost is require. The unit price of grid electricity includes all types of expenditure from generation to consumption also add some profit on it but never consider compensation value due to the environmental hazardous greenhouse gas emission, however renewable energy doesn't emit any greenhouse gas. This paper presents the importance of storage in renewable energy environment by extensive study and literature review;moreover simulation work has been carried out to validate the requirement of such storage system. The importance of storage and it's feasibility were tested using HOMER, a computer aided tool developed by National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Solar and wind data of Rockhampton in Australia has been considered for this model. Net present cost (NPC), cost of energy (COE) and renewable fraction (RF) have been measured as performance metrics. Amount of emitted greenhouse gas from this mixed system has also been considered. The model has been refined with sensitivity analysis and it is found that storage makes the renewable energy (wind and solar) feasible to implement in terms of economy and environment.

Domain knowledge is found to be a crucial factor in attaining quality of requirements. System analysts, who have adequate knowledge of software often don't usually understand the organizational context well. This paper, presents a novel approach that utilizes the Tropos, Software System-Business Model (SS-BM) to requirements list elicitation. In the proposed method, requirements items are mapped to SS-BM elements based on their semantic meanings. The mapped requirements list and SS-BM are analyzed in specific sequence according to multiple checking points. Problems with the requirements list are identified in the analysis process and possible improvements are proposed. Quality indicators are used to summarize the quality of requirements at the end of the elicitation process.
