Traditional automation engineering education using physical training equipment while quite effective, suffers from several limitations in the case there is no equipment access, which can be due to many reasons such as social distancing or financial difficulties. This article proposes a solution to overcome these limitations with the combinational use of mixed reality (MR), which helps the student get used to training equipment they have no access to, and augmented reality (AR), which brings intuitive visualization into real equipment practice.

Chatbots, which emulate human conversation, are meeting the rising demand for efficient customer service by reducing the need for manual intervention and alleviating the challenges of timeconsuming human interactions. This paper introduces Ubot, a domain-specific chatbot fluent in both Urdu and English transliteration, designed to reduce the need for human intervention and lower service costs. We address the challenge of low-resource languages by creating a dataset comprising 750 utterances, 28 intents, and 45 entities, validated by 36 participants. Ubot, powered by the Rasa framework, achieves remarkable accuracy in intent detection 94.1% and entity extraction 95.4%, offering efficient multilingual conversational AI solutions. Our approach holds promise for similar script-sharing languages such as Persian and Arabic, contributing to advanced language applications and intelligent virtual assistants.

This paper proposes a low-cost electronic system for estimating ground reaction forces (GRF) during human gait. The device consists of one master node and two slave nodes. The master node sends instructions to slave nodes that sample and store data from two force insoles located at the participant’s feet. These insoles are equipped with 14 piezo-resistive FlexiForce A301 sensors (FSR). The slave nodes are attached to the ankles and feet of each participant. Subsequently, the start command is transmitted through the master node, whichis connected to the USB port of a personal computer (PC). Once the walking session is completed, the information obtained by the slave nodes can be downloaded by accessing the access point generated by these devices through Wi-Fi communication. The GRF estimation system was validated with force platforms (BTS Bioengineering P6000, Italy), giving on average a fit measure equal to 68.71% +/- 4.80% in dynamic *** versions of this device are expected to increase this fit by using machine learning models. © 2024, The Authors. For acute stroke patients, time to recognize the stroke symptom onset is crucial for the lifesaving treatment. The automatic detection of stroke signs has been increasingly developed for practical use. The better timely classification results could allow better detection of the symptoms and avoid morbidity and mortality. In this study, we proposed using cosine similarity between the left and right sides of the face as a part of features for classifying the stroke elderly patients from healthy elderly participants. We employed our method on images from the Toronto NeuroFace dataset. The results showed high classification accuracy (the average accuracy of 97.8998% from 6 classification methods). These results indicate that the cosine similarity features can be useful to detect facial asymmetry and pose very promising potential for elderly stroke detection. © 2022 IEEE.

In order to explore the impact of pipe diameter, bend-diameter ratio and bend angle on the erosion of slurry pipe, a numerical simulation method approach grounded in Computational Fluid Dynamics-Dense Discrete Phase Model(CFD-DDPM)is proposed. Firstly, the geometric models of bends with different pipe diameters, bend-diameter ratios, and bend angles are constructed;secondly, the slurry pipe erosion model based on Dense Discrete Phase Model(DDPM) is constructed;then, model validation is conducted on the slurry pipe erosion model to affirm the accuracy of the model;finally, the computational fluid dynamics method is employed to simulate the erosion and wear behavior of the pipeline, to investigate the impact of pipe diameter, bend-diameter ratio and bend angle on the erosion and wear of the slurry pipeline. At the same time, gray correlation analysis was also used to analyze the significant relationship between the three pipeline factors and erosion and wear. The results show that the main erosion area is not determined, with the change of the pipeline parameters, the most serious erosion area will move;the effect of different pipeline parameter variations on the erosion rate is different, in which the pipe diameter of the largest impact, the second largest bend-diameter ratio, the smallest impact of the bend angle. Therefore, in the design of slurry pipeline, should first consider the influence of pipe diameter factors.

Falls are one of the most dangerous problems for the elderly. A reliable fall detection system can aid in reducing the harmful repercussions of an unintentional fall. The focus of this paper is on a dataset that includes signals from portable devices. We propose a simple feature selection approach to reduce the number of effective input attributes based on a voting strategy. The dataset is classified into three categories, i.e., pre-fall, fall and post-fall using various machine learning approaches. The computational time is significantly reduced for most of the classification algorithms, and the relative reduction reaches to 66.67% with decision tree algorithm. Classification accuracy can reach as high as 95.17% when using neural network, while the relative reductions on the classification accuracy due to the feature selection do not exceed 1.50%. © 2022 IEEE.

Fluxgate sensors are widely used in the field of low frequency and weak vector magnetic field measurement because of their good performance, such as high resolution and low power consumption. However, during the long-term continuous observation, the drift errors of the fluxgate sensor will occur due to the variable ambient temperature. This paper proposes a temperature compensation method for fluxgate sensors based on polynomial fitting. First, a physical model of the temperature & fluxgate sensor was established on the COMSOL Multiphysics simulation platform, and the influence of temperature on the measurement performance of the fluxgate sensor was analyzed. Second, according to the existing temperature-magnetic field data, a temperature compensation model of the fluxgate sensor was constructed. And compared it with other temperature compensation method, the result shows that the proposed temperature compensation method is relatively simple and can better achieve real-time compensation for sensor application scenarios. Finally, to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, numerous laboratory experiments were *** temperature drift is reduced from more than 500 nT before compensation to about 1 nT. The results show that the proposed method has a good temperature compensation effect on the data measured by the fluxgate sensor within a variable temperature background. This paper presents an original theoretical and implementation framework of fractional order event-based control with the purpose of quality improvement at the end production line of a continuous casting process. A real-life steel manufacturing plant is taken into consideration in the study. A prior fractional order model is considered to tune a fractional order Proportional Integral controller that ensures an ideal flow velocity of liquid steel. A novel event-based fractional order methodology is proposed that uses internal and external process events in order to improve quality . The implementation strategy takes into consideration available software and hardware components at the plant site, offering a realistic and implementable solution, highly suitable for the current steel industry setting. Numeric simulations successfully validate the proposed methodology.

This paper presents a system for estimating step length and step width during human gait. Our approach uses the analysis of depth images captured in synchronisation with piezo-resistive sensors located in two shoe insoles. The system consists of an Intel RealSense D435i RGB-D camera, two insoles equipped with piezoresistive sensors in the heel area, two non-reflective high-visibility markers and a four-wheeled mobile platform. Operation and synchronisation are managed by modules including ESP32 devices and a laptop computer. The proposed system was validated using a comercial motion capture system consisting of 8 cameras. Running tests were performed both on a treadmill and in a natural environment, within the active coverage area of the motion capture system. The results obtained showed that there is a highly significant relationship between the measurements of the proposed system and the measurements of the motion capture system. In the treadmill tests, it was observed that the estimated coefficient of determination R2 was 87.42%±4.55% for step lengths and 83.84%±1.13% for step widths. Likewise, the tests for natural gait had an R2 of 76.83%±3.00% for the step lengths and 81.25% ± 1.63% for the step widths. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper investigates the problem of diagnosing discrete faults for a class of hybrid dynamical systems, where the evolution of the discrete state is led by a set of discrete modes governed by a partially observed Petri net which means that we can know the activation of some discrete modes and the firing of some switching conditions. The considered class may have several modes evolving simultaneously. The modes can be associated with normal or faulty operating conditions. Therefore, the knowledge of the current mode represents the coeur part of the proposed diagnosis approach. We present at first an asymptotic observer to detect both the activation of discrete modes and the switching conditions. Then, we propose an algorithm to diagnose faults using the estimated discrete states provided by the observer. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2022 IEEE.
