The paper explores the effect of blinds on the workplace illuminance. The blinds are used to reduce solar load from the sunshine and decrease energy consumption for cooling in the overheated room. With blinds reducing inside illuminance the standards may not be fit and it is necessary add artificial lighting in this cases. It is important to correctly regulate daylight and eventually supplement it with artificial lighting to set the system for minimum energy consumption to meet all standard requirements. This paper presents the basic effect of the blinds on the internal illuminance of the workplace in the laboratory of lighting systems. This paper indicates that with increasing angles of blinds inside illuminance is decreasing. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2017.

This article describes measurement of HVAC distribution box on air duct track in Laboratory of Environmental engineering (LEE). Firstly, the paper describes the LEE and then measurement apparatus with description of calculation methods. Then follows specification of sample with introduction to newly developed equipment for positioning of the anemometer. The evaluation of results of measurements with CFD comparison follows. The article is concluded with discussion over measured data with an outline for further research. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2017.

Task-free functional connectivity in animal models provides an experimental framework to examine connectivity phenomena under controlled conditions and allows for comparisons with data modalities collected under invasive or terminal procedures. Currently, animal acquisitions are performed with varying protocols and analyses that hamper result comparison and integration. Here we introduce StandardRat, a consensus rat functional magnetic resonance imaging acquisition protocol tested across 20 centers. To develop this protocol with optimized acquisition and processing parameters, we initially aggregated 65 functional imaging datasets acquired from rats across 46 centers. We developed a reproducible pipeline for analyzing rat data acquired with diverse protocols and determined experimental and processing parameters associated with the robust detection of functional connectivity across centers. We show that the standardized protocol enhances biologically plausible functional connectivity patterns relative to previous acquisitions. The protocol and processing pipeline described here is openly shared with the neuroimaging community to promote interoperability and cooperation toward tackling the most important challenges in neuroscience.

Hydraulic pumping systems are ubiquitous in a wide range of industrial processes. However, such systems may exhibit dangerous pressure oscillations, which may lead to serious equipment damage and no programmed plant outage. In order to prevent equipment damage, this paper proposed a damping controller to mitigate dangerous pressure oscillations in hydraulic pumping systems. The controller design is based on frequency domain techniques. For implementation objectives, the resulting damping control law is then converted to discrete time domain by using Tustins methodology and, subsequently, embedded in a hardware built around a 32-bits ARM microcontroller. To assess the controller performance, experimental tests were developed on a laboratory scale pumping system comprised of a centrifugal pump driven by an induction motor-inverter set. The experimental results showed that the proposed controller provides an improve performance by mitigating the pressure oscillations in the tubes. Furthermore, the approach is of low-cost implementation in existing pumping systems. © 2018 IEEE.

Active learning for regression using greedy sampling

Regression problems are pervasive in real-world applications. Generally a substantial amount of labeled samples are needed to build a regression model with good generalization ability. However, many times it is relatively easy to collect a large number of unlabeled samples, but time-consuming or expensive to label them. Active learning for regression (ALR) is a methodology to reduce the number of labeled samples, by selecting the most beneficial ones to label, instead of random selection. This paper proposes two new ALR approaches based on greedy sampling (GS). The first approach (GSy) selects new samples to increase the diversity in the output space, and the second (iGS) selects new samples to increase the diversity in both input and output spaces. Extensive experiments on 12 UCI and CMU StatLib datasets from various domains, and on 15 subjects on EEG-based driver drowsiness estimation, verified their effectiveness and robustness. Since proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers absolutely dominate the control engineering, numbers of different control structures and theories have been developed to enhance the effciency of PID controllers. Thus, it is essential and inspiring to operate different PID control strategies to the PID2018 Benchmark Challenge. In this paper, a novel control strategy is designed for this refrigeration system, where a feedforward compensator and a conditional integrator are utilized to compensate the disturbances and remove the steady-state error in the benchmark problem, respectively. The simulation results given in the benchmark problem show the straightforward effectiveness of the proposed control structure compared with the existing control methods. The study of materials corrosion effect is a great importance topic for the manufacturing industry and also for the customer that requires this. That is why a research study was conducted that aimed to determine the elasticity modulus variation of AISI SAE 1045 steel subjected to corrosion. To achieve this, thirty-five specimens were used, which were exposed to chlorides by immersion processes and salt spray chamber in three periods of time and then subjected to stress test destructive, following the guidelines established under ASTM G-1 standards, ASTM G-31 and ASTM E-8. Variation was found in the elastic behavior of steel and curves that differ from the theoretical ones raised in the documents.

Diffusiophoresis occurs when colloids are placed in the non-uniform solute concentration. The colloids will be propelled in the direction of higher or lower concentration of the solute. In this paper, we consider the optimal boundary control of 1D colloid transport in a dead-end channel, which has a wide range of applications such as drug delivery, biology transport,oil recovery system and so on. Thus, we introduce a coupled system describing the colloid transport process and formulate an optimal control problem, in which the goal is to minimize colloid density distribution deviation between the computational one and the target at a pre-specified terminal time. To solve this optimal problem, we derive the gradient of the objective function based on the control parameterization method with respect to the decision parameters, which depends on the solution of the coupled system and the costate system. Finally, we propose an effective computational method and a gradient-based optimization algorithm to solve the optimal control problem numerically.

Relation Model of Burden Operation and State Variables of Blast Furnace Based on Low Frequency Feature Extraction*

In the blast furnace ironmaking process, the running state of the blast furnace can be directly adjusted by the burden operation. Therefore, the explicit relation between the burden operation and the running state variables is vital for the blast furnace operators. However, the state variables of the blast furnace are affected by many factors and the burden matrix is complicated. In this paper, a support vector regression(SVR) predicting model based on low frequency feature extraction is proposed to solve these problems. First, the low frequency components of state variables time series which are mostly affected by the burden operation are extracted. Then, the dimensions of the burden matrix are reduced by a devised simple expression method. Finally, the relation model based on SVR is proposed to predict the values of the expected state variables according to the simplified burden matrix and the value of initial state variables. The simulation on real factory data indicates that the model reflects the accurate quantitative relation between the burden operation and the state variables. © 2017
