Accurate diagnostic system is significantly important for timely COVID-19 identification. Diagnosing COVID-19 from chest x-ray images employing the CNN model is recommended for accurate recognition of COVID-19. The existing diagnosis techniques of COVID-19 still lack high accuracy. To handle this problem in this work, we have proposed accurate detection method for COVID-19. In the proposed method, a CNN is incorporated for the diagnosis of COVID-19 using chest x-ray images data. The experimental results illustrate that our technique is good for COVID-19 accurate diagnosis and can be easily implemented in health care systems. © 2021 IEEE.

Speech Recognition focuses on developing advanced technologies that can recognize and translate spoken language into text. Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology that captures human voice from a mi-crophone and analyzes it based on spoken words to comprehend natural language. In Ethiopia, ASR models have been developed for specific local languages such as Amharic, Tigrigna, Wolaytta, and Afaan Oromo, but there has been a lack of research on ASR models for the Hadiyyisa language, which is also spoken in Ethiopia. The research study designed and developed an ASR model for the Hadiyyisa language. The researchers collected data from native speakers of the Hadiyyisa language and used Python programming to design and develop the deep learning model for the Hadiyissa ASR model. Different methods and techniques were used in the study to achieve the research objectives and complete the entire research process. The proposed model utilized deep learning algorithms including RNN, LSTM, BiLSTM, and CNN, along with suitable feature extraction techniques such as Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC). The accuracy of the proposed ASR model was evaluated through experimentation, which demonstrated that the BiLSTM model outperformed the other deep learning models with an overall accuracy of 90.95 % Based on the experimental evidence, the proposed model was found to be better suited for ASR for the Hadiyyisa language.

A Small-Signal Stability Criterion for a Power System Dynamic Model with Constant Power Loads

This theoretical paper continues a long line of research works about the stability of power systems represented by reduced order models. We provide a small-signal stability criterion for a dynamic model that uses time-varying phasors, and is characterized by a lossless transmission network and constant power loads located anywhere in the network. A key concept in this study is the matrix H of the partial derivatives of the generator powers with respect to their relative angles. Our main result is that the local stability of any equilibrium point is completely determined by properties of this matrix H. More specifically, we show that an equilibrium point is asymptotically stable if H is positive definite, and is unstable if H is full-rank and not positive definite. In addition, we also prove several relations between the eigenvalues of H and the eigenvalues of the system's Jacobian matrix. These results are demonstrated on a number of case-studies, and compared with related earlier ones from the literature. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The development of compact and efficient devices has been made possible by the growth of Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) technologies, which has transformed modern electronics. However, there are cautions regarding the security of data, especially when it comes to transmission due to the extensive usage of technology. To address these, this study proposes a modified Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm as a solution for improved security protocol in VLSI systems. The proposed algorithm are intended to support the encryption procedure, increasing stronger production against cryptographic attacks while preserving the system's effectiveness and speed factors that are critical aspects for VLSI applications. Through extensive simulations and testing, the modified AES algorithm demonstrated significant security enhancements the operational efficiency of the VLSI system. The attained outcomes of the proposed work shows that the Modified AES strategy provides a workable technique to protect data in VLSI-based devices while maintaining data communication integrity and confidentiality. The proposed modified AES algorithm demonstrates a significant improvement in performance with a propagation delay of 7 ns, power consumption of 29 mW, and a computational overhead of 62 bits, leading to enhanced efficiency in cryptographic operations. This study highlights that the modified AES algorithm improve security in modern electronic systems and maintain performance. © 2025 IEEE.

Human-computer interaction (HCI) is an evolving field of research that focuses on understanding and improving the communication and interaction between humans and computers. Over the past decades, we have seen many significant advances in this field, which have contributed to the widespread adoption and integration of technology into our daily lives. HCI research and development aims to design information technology systems to meet the needs and preferences of users. Usability, efficiency, accessibility and user satisfaction are important considerations in HCI design. This paper presents the results of a pilot study on user acceptance of HCIs. The results show that users are positive about and willing to use HCIs.

Forests cover nearly one-third of the Earth’s land and are some of our most biodiverse ecosystems. Due to climate change, these essential habitats are endangered by increasing wildfires. Wildfires are not just a risk to the environment, but they also pose public health risks. Given these issues, there is an indispensable need for efficient and early detection methods. Conventional detection approaches fall short due to spatial limitations and manual feature engineering, which calls for the exploration and development of data-driven deep learning solutions. This paper, in this regard, proposes 'FireXnet', a tailored deep learning model designed for improved efficiency and accuracy in wildfire detection. FireXnet is tailored to have a lightweight architecture that exhibits high accuracy with significantly less training and testing time. It contains considerably reduced trainable and non-trainable parameters, which makes it suitable for resource-constrained devices. To make the FireXnet model visually explainable and trustable, a powerful explainable artificial intelligence (AI) tool, SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) has been incorporated. It interprets FireXnet’s decisions by computing the contribution of each feature to the prediction. Furthermore, the performance of FireXnet is compared against five pre-trained models — VGG16, InceptionResNetV2, InceptionV3, DenseNet201, and MobileNetV2 — to benchmark its efficiency. For a fair comparison, transfer learning and fine-tuning have been applied to the aforementioned models to retrain the models on our dataset. The test accuracy of the proposed FireXnet model is 98.42%, which is greater than all other models used for comparison. Furthermore, results of reliability parameters confirm the model’s reliability, i.e., a confidence interval of [0.97, 1.00] validates the certainty of the proposed model’s estimates and a Cohen’s kappa coefficient of 0.98 proves that decisions of FireXnet are in considerable accordance with t

Privacy-utility tradeoff remains as one of the fundamental issues of differentially private machine learning. This paper introduces a geometrically inspired kernel-based approach to mitigate the accuracy-loss issue in classification. In this approach, a representation of the affine hull of given data points is learned in Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces (RKHS). This leads to a novel distance measure that hides privacy-sensitive information about individual data points and improves the privacy-utility tradeoff via significantly reducing the risk of membership inference attacks. The effectiveness of the approach is demonstrated through experiments on MNIST dataset, Freiburg groceries dataset, and a real biomedical dataset. It is verified that the approach remains computationally practical. The application of the approach to federated learning is considered and it is observed that the accuracy-loss due to data being distributed is either marginal or not significantly high. © 2023, CC BY.

As autonomous vehicles (AVs) become increasingly widespread, the intelligent driving control and safety concerns have emerged. Recent advents in Internet of Things (IoTs) and 6G technologies have vastly boosted AVs’ sensing and communication capabilities, thereby enabling the high-speed and real-time data exchange. However, efficiently utilizing data while safeguarding the privacy remains challenges. Thus, we propose a federated learning (FL) framework with the privacy protection to facilitate the deep reinforcement learning (DRL) for longitudinal vehicle safety tracking control. First, the proposed framework enables the efficient information sharing and policy updates via encrypted policy gradient transmission. Then, the twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (TD3) method makes the velocity decision in the local model, while the dual long short-term memory (LSTM) network captures the temporal trajectory information. Finally, stacked denoising autoencoders (SDAE) is used to extract high-level environmental features, and the dual-LSTM-TD3 (DLT3)-SDAE model is introduced to enhance the policy decision efficiency and accuracy. Experimental results demonstrate that within the FL framework supported by homomorphic encryption, the DLT3-SDAE-based AV agent surpasses other DRL methods in terms of collision avoidance and average rewards, in the LAF environment. The safety, efficiency and comfort of the DLT3-SDAE AV agent are also evaluated and demonstrated. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

This research presents an enhanced version of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which integrates usability and learning objectives to evaluate the effect of adopting virtual laboratories on student performance. Data from 97 participants, gathered via a survey, was used to examine the correlation between perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU), and intention to use (IU) concerning their experiences and outcomes with a simulation-based virtual laboratory. A custom questionnaire was designed to assess TAM components, namely PU, PEOU, and IU, specifically in the context of virtual laboratory learning environments. Findings indicate that the integration of specific laboratory learning objectives fosters the creation of a more credible and authentic simulation tool. This, in turn, optimizes the learning process and enhances students' learning outcomes. The refined TAM model provides valuable insights into the determinants of user acceptance of virtual laboratories and offers practical guidance for educators and instructional designers to construct more effective and efficient virtual laboratory environments in educational contexts.

Privacy-Aware Edge Computation Offloading With Federated Learning in Healthcare Consumer Electronics System

The continuous iteration of consumer electronics has significantly promoted the development of medical devices, which has enabled the collection of large amounts of heterogeneous medical data. These data are offloaded from local devices to cloud servers for processing using traditional methods, which results in high transmission latency and the risk of privacy leakage. Additionally, researchers have employed federated learning to protect data privacy, but this approach can lead to a straggler effect due to the limited computational and communication resources of terminal devices. To address these issues, a computation offloading framework is designed to optimize task and resource allocation, addressing multi-optimization problems and mitigating the straggler effect in federated learning. Moreover, a novel computation offloading method within a federated learning framework assisted by edge computing, named DRWB, is proposed. Specifically, we develop a deep reinforcement learning-based approach to transfer lagging training tasks to idle edge servers, enhancing data processing speed, minimizing transmission delays, and protecting user privacy. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the DRWB method outperforms baseline methods, showcasing superior performance in handling heterogeneous medical data tasks. © 1975-2011 IEEE.
