Because of generating various news articles in large scale, online sources moved into an automatic categorization mechanism. This research has been conducted using LDA topic modeling approach and using other classification algorithms to establish a news categorization solution. Sinhala news websites have only few news categories and do not have any relationships or hierarchies between the categories. Therefore, some users require to search manually and find the necessary articles which are in those categories. Purpose of this study is to build a news categorization model with categorization hierarchies for Sinhala news articles. The goals of the models are to identify the most suitable news category for a related news article and develop hierarchies using generated news categories and assign the news articles according to the hierarchical structure. The final experiments and evaluations show that the solution performs well to solve the automatic categorization problem in Sinhala news platforms. © 2020 IEEE.

In research institutions, the ability to monitor and analyze publication output is crucial for assessing productivity and achieving strategic goals. This paper presents a dashboard designed to visualize and analyze publication data from a research center of the Indonesian public institution. The dashboard addresses several key questions: (1) whether the current number of publications is on track to meet the institution’s targets, (2) the comparison between journal and proceeding publications, (3) individual researcher productivity, (4) research group productivity, and (5) the collaborative efforts among researchers and groups. By leveraging this tool, stakeholders can gain insights into publication trends and identify areas for improvement. The findings reveal significant trends in publication types and collaboration patterns, offering a comprehensive overview of the institution’s research output. This study contributes to the understanding of research productivity metrics and their implications for strategic planning in academic research. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a method and web application to reduce wordiness in Thai by adapting pattern-based analysis with wordiness initial corpus. The small amount of Thai text is gathered to create the initial corpus for grammatically analyzing the patterns of Thai wordiness. 18 wordiness have been decided to intensely analyze the co-occurrence, patterns contexts and construction rules. And 99 wordiness patterns are discovered for the experiments. The experiment has been done with 100 documents from Thai National Corpus by 15 students. For the user satisfaction which is analyzed from the questionnaire, users are highly satisfied with the use of the proposed system. And the wordiness reduction result of the experiment shows the effectiveness of the wordiness identification and reduction which the accuracy is 86.51%. The 13.49% of errors come from word segmentation and unknown words. Wordiness automatically corpus will be developed for further experiment in the future. © 2019 IEEE.

Cloud data centers consume vast amounts of electrical energy all over the world. Energy conservation in data centers has become a severe problem. This paper presents an energy-efficient virtual machine (VM) consolidation algorithm for cloud data centers. The proposed policy exploits the average utilization of each VM to estimate the expected utilization of physical hosts. Then, the expected utilization, the actual utilization and the static threshold are combined together to determine whether a host is at the status of overloading or not. Some VM(s) on the overloading hosts are then selected for migration to avoid Service Level Agreements (SLA) violations. The results of the experiment show that the proposed algorithm can effectively reduce energy consumption while guarantee SLAs. © Copyright owned by the author(s).

This paper discusses Remote Direct Memory Access(RDMA) communication technology and the congestion control methods for Graphics Processing Unit(GPU) clusters. The implementation methods of RDMA networks widely used in GPU clusters are studied. Three implementation modes including InfiniBand, iWARP, and RoCE are analysed with comparison of their performance and applicable environments. Then, based on the analysis of a new congestion controls algorithm, DBCC & CBFC algorithm, is proposed. This algorithm based on delay feedback control and credit flow control prevents network congestion or increased latency in GPU cluster RDMA networks. The working principles of the algorithm are introduced including calculating the adjustment amount of the sending rate, initializing the sender and receiver and mechanisms to handle packet loss and timeout. Experimental results show that the algorithm optimizes network performance with RDMA communication in GPU clusters, while avoiding congestion and minimizing packet loss. However, due to the limitation of experimental conditions, it is not possible to conduct more environmental tests. In practical application, the applicability of the algorithm needs to be carefully evaluated and adjusted according to the specific situations. © 2023 ACM.

Thermal energy storage (TES) play a vital role in overcoming the fluctuating nature of solar thermal energy. To study and understand the performance of these systems, using new techniques such as computer simulations can be useful. In this article, a specific circular nanochannel containing a phase change material (PCM) is introduced and its thermal and mass performance are investigated. By using two types of PCM and three wall metals (platinum, copper, and aluminum) the effects of changing several geometric and thermodynamic parameters are evaluated. In general, two different plans are proposed and parameters such as thermal conductivity, heat flux, charging, and discharging time are defined and evaluated. The obtained results show that the use of paraffin reduces the phase change time from 1.36 ns to 1.21 ns. Geometrical investigations also show that increasing the diameter ratio leads to a decrease in heat flux. Increasing the velocity of argon atoms in the inner tube also leads to an increase in the mobility of atoms and as a result improves the heat transfer rate. Using copper, the thermal conductivity is 54.3 % and 13.5 % higher than platinum and aluminum. The maximum heat flux for the two proposed cases is about 1500 and 1285 W/m2, respectively. Increasing the velocity of argon atoms from 0.01 Å/fs to 0.05 Å/fs leads to a decrease in the phase change time from 1.12 ns to 1.15 ns. Regarding the type of PCM, paraffin performs better than the combination of water-hydrocarbon. © 2025 Elsevier Masson SAS

Biometric techniques can differentiate identical twins, and this makes the techniques a subject of interest. Studies on biometric techniques have been conducted in many disciplines. Unimodal biometric systems with twins, however, have issues including intra-class variations, noisy data, limited freedom levels, non-universality, vulnerability to spoof attacks, and intolerable rates of error. Several of these limitations are manageable through the use of multimodal biometric systems that combine the evidence brought by many sources of information. This survey highlights the relevant literature, the accessible datasets for research, and the subjects of uncertainty, and proposes future research. Shrinkage Estimation for Location and Scale Parameters of Logistic Distribution Under Record Values

Logistic distribution (LogDis) is frequently used in many different applications, such as logistic regression, logit models, classification, neural networks, physical sciences, sports modeling, finance and health and disease studies. For instance, the distribution function of the LogDis has the same functional form as the derivative of the Fermi function that can be used to set the relative weight of various electron energies in their contributions to electron transport. The LogDis has wider tails than a normal distribution (NorDis), so it is more consistent with the underlying data and provides better insight into the likelihood of extreme events. For this reason the United States Chess Federation has switched its formula for calculating chess ratings from the NorDis to the LogDis. The outcomes of many real-life experiments are sequences of record-breaking data sets, where only observations that exceed (or only those that fall below) the current extreme value are recorded. The practice demonstrated that the widely used estimators of the scale and location parameters of logistic record values, such as the best linear unbiased estimators (BLUEs), have some defects. This paper investigates the shrinkage estimators of the location and scale parameters for logistic record values using prior information about their BLUEs. Theoretical and computational justifications for the accuracy and precision of the proposed shrinkage estimators are investigated via their bias and mean square error (MSE), which provide sufficient conditions for improving the proposed shrinkage estimators to get unbiased estimators with minimum MSE. The performance of the proposed shrinkage estimators is compared with the performances of the BLUEs. The results demonstrate that the resulting shrinkage estimators are shown to be remarkably efficient. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2023.
