Discovering multi-agent systems for resource-centric business process simulation

Business process simulation (BPS) is a powerful tool for estimating process performance across different scenarios, offering critical support for organizational process redesign and optimization. Traditional BPS approaches predominantly rely on a control-flow-first perspective by enriching a process model with simulation parameters. While these approaches seem suitable for capturing centrally orchestrated processes, such as those managed by workflow systems, they fall short of accurately reflecting real-world processes characterized by decentralized decision-making and distinct resource behaviors. To overcome this limitation, we propose AgentSimulator, a resource-first BPS approach that discovers a multi-agent system from an event log. By modeling the distinct behaviors and interaction patterns of individual resources, AgentSimulator effectively simulates the underlying process. Our approach automatically identifies whether resource behavior is rather orchestrated or autonomous, adapting to the specific decision-making structure of the process. Experimental results reveal that AgentSimulator achieves state-of-the-art simulation accuracy while ensuring high adaptability to various process types.

American Sign Language (ASL) recognition aims to recognize hand gestures, and it is a crucial solution to communicating between the deaf community and hearing people. However, existing sign language recognition algorithms still have some drawbacks, such as difficulty recognizing hand movements and low recognition accuracy for most sign language recognition. A Modified Convolutional Neural Network (MCNN) deep residual 101 classifier-based American Sign Language identification system has been developed to address this problem. There are three main parts presents in the method. The first part is pre-processing the images to remove the noise, enhance the contrast of the picture, adjust the contrast level and smoothen the picture using various filters. The second part is the segmentation, and it’s used to partition the image using a modified canny edge detection method by removing all weak edges present in the image. Finally, classification will be done using the Modified CNN deep residual 101 classifiers. By classifying the image, the American Sign Language is accurately identified. This process is conducted through images. The outcome shows that the suggested approach has a 0.97% accuracy and a 0.05% False Positive Rate. Other CNN architectures such as resNet 50 and resNet 18 reached 0.90% and 0.80% accuracy, respectively, which is lower than our proposed method. In addition, the resNet 101 classifier effectively recognizes the difficult hand gestures through the image data. It obtains high recognition accuracy for 36 signs is 0 to 9 numbers and a to z alphabets from American Sign Language. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

The manual analysis of job resumes poses specific challenges, including the time-intensive process and the high likelihood of human error, emphasizing the need for automation in content-based recommendations. Recent advancements in deep learning, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) for Multi-label Text Classification (MLTC), offer a promising solution for addressing these challenges through artificial intelligence. While CNN is renowned for its robust feature extraction capabilities, it faces specific challenges such as managing high-dimensional data and poor data interpretability. To address these limitations, this study employs the Fuzzy Discernibility Matrix (FDM) feature selection technique to determine the relevance of skills for each job vacancy. FDM assigns weights to the features of each job category and ranks their relevance based on the highest scores, which are then utilized in the MLTC CNN model. The integration of FDM and MLTC CNN serves as the foundation for generating content-based recommendations derived from key features in job resumes. This study produces a content-based job recommendation system that displays the top three job categories, accompanied by explanations of the skills supporting each selected category. These recommendations also consider cosine similarity values between analyzed items and the integrated results of FDM and MLTC CNN. The application of FDM for feature weighting has been proven to enhance multi-label text classification outcomes by providing better insights during the feature selection process. With a recall of 97.26%, precision of 94.81%, and accuracy of 98.58%, the MLTC model integrating FDM feature selection and CNN demonstrates robust performance characteristics in content-based job recommendation tasks. © 2025 Slovene Society Informatika. Adopting high-quality source code is the ultimate way through which software evolution can be ensured as sustainable. Continuous refactoring in complex software systems ensures longevity and increases architecture knowledge sustainability. However, decision-making about refactoring is a challenge because the benefits of refactoring are vague and very difficult for the developers to quantify, as different refactoring strategies have different effects on quality attributes. No research has developed a multi-classification refactoring framework using artificial neural networks (ANN), specifically hopfield neural networks (HNN), to classify refactoring strategies and improve external software quality and sustainability. Therefore, this study proposes a multi-classification refactoring framework using HNN that classifies refactoring strategies by their impact on external quality attributes. Five stages have been conducted to perform this study, including selecting case studies, identifying the external quality attributes, identifying the most commonly used refactoring strategies in practice, conducting the experiments, and conducting the classification process using HNN. The proposed framework categorizes the refactoring strategies into three categories (positive, negative, and ineffective). By providing clear classifications and descriptions of each strategy, the proposed framework helps developers make informed decisions about how to improve the design and structure of their code. It helps developers mitigate risks associated with code changes by providing guidance on which strategies are likely to yield positive results for specific quality attributes. The proposed multi-classification refactoring framework enhances software sustainability by enhancing critical quality attributes. It supports maintainability, adaptability, and long-term viability, helping to ensure that the software systems remain relevant, efficient, and valuable over time. © 2025 IEEE.

Revolutionizing Communication with Deep Learning and XAI for Enhanced Arabic Sign Language Recognition

This study introduces an integrated approach to recognizing Arabic Sign Language (ArSL) using state-of-the-art deep learning models such as MobileNetV3, ResNet50, and EfficientNet-B2. These models are further enhanced by explainable AI (XAI) techniques to boost interpretability. The ArSL2018 and RGB Arabic Alphabets Sign Language (AASL) datasets are employed, with EfficientNet-B2 achieving peak accuracies of 99.48% and 98.99%, respectively. Key innovations include sophisticated data augmentation methods to mitigate class imbalance, implementation of stratified 5-fold cross-validation for better generalization, and the use of Grad-CAM for clear model decision transparency. The proposed system not only sets new benchmarks in recognition accuracy but also emphasizes interpretability, making it suitable for applications in healthcare, education, and inclusive communication technologies. © 2025, CC0.

Modified simulated annealing for university teacher course assignment considering socio-cultural constraints

This paper aims to address the complex challenge of course assignment for faculty members within a Saudi university, taking into account the socio-cultural constraints imposed by gender-based segregation between students and faculty. To tackle this challenge, a combinatorial optimization model is proposed, which includes a binary representation of the problem, constraints reflecting gender segregation, and an objective function designed to maximize faculty satisfaction. The model employs a Simulated Annealing (SA) algorithm, supplemented with two neighborhood search heuristics (H1 and H2), to explore diverse combinations. Additionally, a greedy randomized adaptive search procedure Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure (GRASP) algorithm is implemented for comparative analysis, utilizing heuristic 1 for local search. Through the application of simulated annealing alongside both heuristics (SA_H1_H2), the optimal solution is achieved, resulting in a notable equilibrium of courses among faculty members. Objective 1 demonstrates the standardized deviation in workload distribution among faculty members, yielding a deviation value of 0.08. This study contributes to the field by proposing a novel approach to course assignment that explicitly addresses the gender-based segregation prevalent in Saudi universities. By integrating socio-cultural constraints into the optimization model and employing advanced algorithms, the study offers a pioneering solution to a previously unexplored problem domain. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of Computer Applications and Management 2024.

Feature selection via Class-specific Approximate Markov Blanket and Rough Set-based Mapping

Markov Blanket (MB) is a currently popular approach to feature selection that helps to effectively select correlated features and eliminate redundant features. However, existing MB-based approaches involve complex computations and extensive search. Therefore, we propose a novel concept, Class-specific Approximate Markov Blanket (CSAMB), to solve the above two problems from a class-specific perspective. This concept involves the transformation of decision attributes and features in the specific class using a proposed Rough Set-based Mapping (RSM) method, facilitating the selection results with high classification correlation and low inter-redundancy. The RSM not only preserves the positive, negative and boundary regions of a specific class with respect to a given feature, but also accurately quantifies the relationship between features within that class. Notably, we explore the approximate upper and lower bounds of grouping of correlation features via CSAMB. We then design a CSAMB-based algorithm, and extend it to two variants: CSAMB-min and CSAMB-max using the approximate upper and lower bounds, which demonstrates the performance range of our algorithm. Experiments shows that our algorithms outperform state-of-the-art algorithms regarding accuracy and efficiency, especially for large-scale and high-dimensional datasets. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Generative AI for synthetic data across multiple medical modalities: A systematic review of recent developments and challenges

This paper presents a comprehensive systematic review of generative models (GANs, VAEs, DMs, and LLMs) used to synthesize various medical data types, including imaging (dermoscopic, mammographic, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and X-ray), text, time-series, and tabular data (EHR). Unlike previous narrowly focused reviews, our study encompasses a broad array of medical data modalities and explores various generative models. Our aim is to offer insights into their current and future applications in medical research, particularly in the context of synthesis applications, generation techniques, and evaluation methods, as well as providing a GitHub repository as a dynamic resource for ongoing collaboration and innovation. Our search strategy queries databases such as Scopus, PubMed, and ArXiv, focusing on recent works from January 2021 to November 2023, excluding reviews and perspectives. This period emphasizes recent advancements beyond GANs, which have been extensively covered in previous reviews. The survey also emphasizes the aspect of conditional generation, which is not focused on in similar work. Key contributions include a broad, multi-modality scope that identifies cross-modality insights and opportunities unavailable in single-modality surveys. While core generative techniques are transferable, we find that synthesis methods often lack sufficient integration of patient-specific context, clinical knowledge, and modality-specific requirements tailored to the unique characteristics of medical data. Conditional models leveraging textual conditioning and multimodal synthesis remain underexplored but offer promising directions for innovation. Our findings are structured around three themes: (1) Synthesis applications, highlighting clinically valid synthesis applications and significant gaps in using synthetic data beyond augmentation, such as for validation and evaluation;(2) Generation techniques, identifying gaps in personalization and cross-modality innovation;and (3) Evalu

With the advancement of deep learning, network communication has become the most critical factor in model training. Especially, the all-reduce operation can comprise over 70% of the cumulative training duration as a pivotal component within data parallelism. However, existing all-reduce algorithms often perform poorly in complex network topologies, and there is currently no universal and straightforward all-reduce algorithm that can effectively adapt to diverse topological *** this work, we propose a topology decoupled all-reduce algorithm. We decouple the network into multiple tree substructures, select the trees with the smallest heights, and then split the data to perform aggregate communication within these selected structures. This approach significantly reduces the number of communications and enhances efficiency. Experimental results show that our topology decoupled all-reduce algorithm reduces communication time compared to NCCL’s by 42.9% and enhances end-to-end training efficiency by 11.7%.

Thousands of individuals succumb annually to leukemia alone. As artificial intelligence-driven technologies continue to evolve and advance, the question of their applicability and reliability remains unresolved. This study aims to utilize image processing and deep learning methodologies to achieve state-of-the-art results for the detection of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) using data that best represents real-world scenarios. ALL is one of several types of blood cancer, and it is an aggressive form of leukemia. In this investigation, we examine the most recent advancements in ALL detection, as well as the latest iteration of the YOLO series and its performance. We address the question of whether white blood cells are malignant or benign. Additionally, the proposed models can identify different ALL stages, including early stages. Furthermore, these models can detect hematogones despite their frequent misclassification as ALL. By utilizing advanced deep learning models, namely, YOLOv8, YOLOv11, ResNet50 and Inception-ResNet-v2, the study achieves accuracy rates as high as 99.7%, demonstrating the effectiveness of these algorithms across multiple datasets and various real-world situations. © 2025, CC0.
