Monitoring systems have become more and more popular. A typical example is a smart home monitoring system which provides peace of mind for people staying far away from their homes. This system can be deployed for different purposes, such as to take care elderly staying at home alone or to provide anti-theft when nobody is at home. In this type of monitoring systems, there is always a problem with protecting the privacy and security of captured images. This problem is often addressed by either scrambling or encoding techniques that add noise in or to distort the images. In the IEEE Big data 2022 Cup, the challenge is to detect and perform matching between an original image and its scrambled or encoded version. Generally, if we are able to train a machine learning model that would correctly identify the matching, it will be proof that the applied scrambling or encoding technique is not strong enough to protect data and hence it needs to be strengthened further. In this paper, we present an auto-encoder architecture that allows us to demystify scrambled or encoded images as long as the scrambling or encoding techniques are deterministic. The internet of things technology has developed almost all the sectors including energy management. In traditional energy management system meters are used to recording the number of units and electricity used but they are unable to provide the real time information or updates or any theft of electricity. By focusing this problem, we have developed a system which is able to overcome all the problems in traditional electric management system. It monitors the energy usage and real time theft detection of electricity as it cost lot of money. In our system we have used a current sensor which continuously checks the electricity flow. The microcontroller measures the actual energy usage as well as expected values. It compares both the values. If a big difference found, then it could mean the theft of electricity. So, the GSM module is used to send the alert to the user hence they can take required action. The Wi-Fi module sends the data over the cloud for data analytics. Also, user can see the real time data from the cloud platform. Hence user can track the energy usage and get timely alerts so that user can be aware of energy consumption or energy theft. The system is developed by setting up hardware parts as well as integration with software. The system can be operated or monitored from remote place, as Wi-Fi module connects the system with the internet. System can detect the unusual activities like theft of electricity by analyzing the data. Using the IoT technology for energy management, it can become cost effective as well as smart solution of energy management to avoid any theft. Hence it can overcome the loss.

Shoplifting presents a significant challenge for retailers, leading to substantial financial losses and security concerns. Current surveillance systems effectively identify shoplifting incidents postoccurrence; however, the capability to detect and prevent such activities preemptively remains limited. This research focuses on identifying behaviors that likely precede shoplifting events. To this end, we introduce a novel benchmark dataset, specifically designed for the early detection of suspicious behavior that may lead to shoplifting. This dataset is curated by selecting and segmenting relevant sequences from the UCF101-Crime dataset, encompassing suspicious behavior, actual shoplifting incidents, and normal activities. Our approach addresses the limitations of existing datasets where the brief duration of shoplifting events may skew neural network performance. The dataset includes clips of only a few seconds each, for which we propose a robust neural network architecture combining the strengths of convolutional neural networks (CNN) for efficient feature extraction and Bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) networks for capturing temporal dependencies within action sequences. Our model achieves an impressive classification accuracy of 86.21 % on the newly created dataset.

Pre-trained language models have significantly advanced natural language processing (NLP), especially with the introduction of BERT and its optimized version, RoBERTa. While initial research focused on English, single-language models can be advantageous compared to multilingual ones in terms of pre-training effort, overall resource efficiency or downstream task performance. Despite the growing popularity of prompt-based LLMs, more compute-efficient BERT-like models remain highly relevant. In this work, we present the first German single-language RoBERTa model, GottBERT, pre-trained exclusively on the German portion of the OSCAR dataset. Additionally, we investigated the impact of filtering the OSCAR corpus. GottBERT was pre-trained using fairseq and standard hyperparameters. We evaluated its performance on two Named Entity Recognition (NER) tasks (Conll 2003 and GermEval 2014) and three text classification tasks (GermEval 2018 fine and coarse, and 10kGNAD) against existing German BERT models and two multilingual models. Performance was measured using the F1 score and accuracy. The GottBERT base and large models showed competitive performance, with GottBERT leading among the base models in 4 of 6 tasks. Contrary to our expectation, the applied filtering did not significantly affect the results. To support the German NLP research community, we are releasing the GottBERT models under the MIT license. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

This study improves the quality of 3D orthomosaic images to meet the requirements of generating virtual reality tsunamis. We correct ground control points (GCP), fly drones at lower altitudes, use close range photogrammetry (CRP) techniques, and set double grid missions, orbit missions, and cylinder missions. In addition, we use certain camera parameters such as white balance (WB) and exposure compensation value (EV) with a zoomed in drone photo feed. We also explore the methods of processing aerial photo data. The results showed that the image quality and orthomosaic 3D textures were better than the results of the previous studies. © 2023 IEEE.

Oxygen uptake plays a crucial role in the evaluation of endurance performance during exercise and is extensively utilized for metabolic assessment. This study records the oxygen uptake during the exercise phase (i.e., ascending or descending) of the stair exercise, utilizing an experimental dataset that includes ten participants and covers various exercise periods. Based on the designed experiment protocol, a non-parametric modeling method with kernel-based regularization is generally applied to estimate the oxygen uptake changes during the switching stairs exercise, which closely resembles daily life activities. The modeling results indicate the effectiveness of the non-parametric modeling approach when compared to fixed-order models in terms of accuracy, stability, and compatibility. The influence of exercise duration on estimated fitness reveals that the model of the phase-oxygen uptake system is not time-invariant related to respiratory metabolism regulation and muscle fatigue. Consequently, it allows us to study the humans’ conversion mechanism at different metabolic rates and facilitates the standardization and development of exercise prescriptions.

Cinemo: Consistent and Controllable Image Animation with Motion Diffusion Models

Diffusion models have achieved great progress in image animation due to powerful generative capabilities. However, maintaining spatio-temporal consistency with detailed information from the input static image over time (e.g., style, background, and object of the input static image) and ensuring smoothness in animated video narratives guided by textual prompts still remains challenging. In this paper, we introduce Cinemo, a novel image animation approach towards achieving better motion controllability, as well as stronger temporal consistency and smoothness. In general, we propose three effective strategies at the training and inference stages of Cinemo to accomplish our goal. At the training stage, Cinemo focuses on learning the distribution of motion residuals, rather than directly predicting subsequent via a motion diffusion model. Additionally, a structural similarity index-based strategy is proposed to enable Cinemo to have better controllability of motion intensity. At the inference stage, a noise refinement technique based on discrete cosine transformation is introduced to mitigate sudden motion changes. Such three strategies enable Cinemo to produce highly consistent, smooth, and motion-controllable results. Compared to previous methods, Cinemo offers simpler and more precise user controllability. Extensive experiments against several state-of-the-art methods, including both commercial tools and research approaches, across multiple metrics, demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of our proposed approach. We present GauKGT5, a sequence-to-sequence model proposed for knowledge graph completion (KGC). Our research extends the KGT5 model, a recent sequence-to-sequence link prediction (LP) model. GauKGT5 takes advantage of textual characteristics inherent in the knowledge graph, exhibiting a small model size. However, KGT5's proficiency in link prediction necessitates the ensemble with a knowledge graph embedding model, which itself poses challenges due to its substantial size and expense. By integrating the Gated Attention Unit into the KGT5 model and directly applying it to the encoder-decoder structure, we achieve improved contextual dependency capturing within the sequence, resulting in enhanced prediction accuracy, accelerated training speed, and enhanced computational efficiency. At the same time, we introduce parallel computing as a means to enhance the efficiency of model training and inference within the XPU distributed computing environment. © 2023 IEEE.

Unlocking Fine-Grained Details with Wavelet-based High-Frequency Enhancement in Transformers

Medical image segmentation is a critical task that plays a vital role in diagnosis, treatment planning, and disease monitoring. Accurate segmentation of anatomical structures and abnormalities from medical images can aid in the early detection and treatment of various diseases. In this paper, we address the local feature deficiency of the Transformer model by carefully re-designing the self-attention map to produce accurate dense prediction in medical images. To this end, we first apply the wavelet transformation to decompose the input feature map into low-frequency (LF) and high-frequency (HF) subbands. The LF segment is associated with coarse-grained features, while the HF components preserve fine-grained features such as texture and edge information. Next, we reformulate the self-attention operation using the efficient Transformer to perform both spatial and context attention on top of the frequency representation. Furthermore, to intensify the importance of the boundary information, we impose an additional attention map by creating a Gaussian pyramid on top of the HF components. Moreover, we propose a multi-scale context enhancement block within skip connections to adaptively model inter-scale dependencies to overcome the semantic gap among stages of the encoder and decoder modules. Throughout comprehensive experiments, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our strategy on multi-organ and skin lesion segmentation benchmarks.
