For high transmission latency from users, cloud computing (CC) is not the best choice for processing latency sensitive applications that require real time response with minimal del.y. To tolerate this issue, a new computing paradigm named fog computing (FC) was introduced to make cloud services closer to the user. It has been proposed to support real-time applications. Resource allocation and Task assignment are important issues for fog environment. Inefficient resource allocation causes poor performance for the system. Some tasks are constrained with a time limit called deadline. In case of real time applications, tasks need to be scheduled in the fog environment without violating its deadline. A new algorithm called Modified Deadline Aware Resource Allocation (MDARA) was proposed in this paper. Its aim is minimizing the completion time of applications, minimizing average response time, augment usage of resources under a constraint of deadline for enhancing the performance of fog environment. The proposed algorithm is compared with one of effective load balancing algorithms as Modified Round Robin algorithm (MRR) and compared with one of the recent algorithms like DRAM algorithm, which focuses on load balancing and resource utilization without taking into consideration the overall completion time and user-defined deadline of tasks. According to the results, the proposed algorithm outperformed both MRR and DRAM algorithms. © 2023 IEEE.

Power transmission lines are often used very inefficiently. A possible way to increase their effectiveness is the use of dynamic thermal rating, instead of the more common static rating. Dynamic thermal rating can be calculated from actual conductor load and ambient weather conditions using methodology described in IEEE Std. 738-2006. Main purpose of the presented study is to perform a sensitivity analysis of individual variables participating in dynamic thermal rating calculations. The effects of sel.cted input variables on conductor current-carrying capacity and temperature are described as functional dependence using 2D plots. Individual parameters are then ranked according to their influence on the conductor thermal state. © 2013 IEEE.

Directional and stream data are common in many research fiel.s. Wind speed and direction are the most important variables for effective wind energy utilization. It is also wel. known, that wind significantly influences the current-carrying capacity of overhead power transmission lines. This shows the importance of knowing the annual wind direction distribution for specific locations, e.g. where wind farms or power transmission lines are situated. In this paper, a new method of wind direction distribution determination is presented. The statistical model.is composed of a finite mixture of circular von Mises distributions. Parameters of the model.are estimated using the heuristic search method of genetic algorithms. The quality of computed distribution is evaluated by Pearson's chi-squared test. The entire proposed procedure is tested using a case study. The results show that the model.composed of a finite mixture of von Mises distribution corresponds to the input data with high significance level.

The installations of weather-dependent renewable energy sources, such as wind turbines and solar plants, increased significantly in the last two decades. They are often built in remote areas without appropriate power grid connections. The construction of a new power transmission line or improving the old one requires significant financial and time costs. The grid operators prefer to limit the power production in order to keep the load of the power line under its rating. Instead of broadly-used static rating, the existing lines can be rated in real time using a dynamic thermal rating (DTR) system. DTR of power transmission lines can usually provide a significant increase of transmission capacity compared to the static rating. The main inputs to DTR systems are measured or forecast meteorological data. The rel.tion of DTR to the renewable resources is obvious when we consider input parameters to the calculation scheme - wind speed, ambient temperature and shortwave radiation. Exactly same variables are determining production of wind and solar energy. A case study of virtual wind farm and corresponding power transmission line shows limits of renewable energy production at given site. The results demonstrate that the optimal size of wind farm is approximatel. triple when using DTR comparing to the static rating. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper introduces a new quadrotor manipulation system that consists of a 2-link manipulator attached to the bottom of a quadrotor. This new system presents a solution for the drawbacks found in the current quadrotor manipulation system which uses a gripper fixed to a quadrotor. Unlike the current system, the proposed system enables the end-effector to achieve any arbitrary orientation and thus increases its degrees of freedom from 4 to 6. Also, it provides enough distance between the quadrotor and the object to be manipulated. This is useful in some applications such as demining applications. System kinematics and dynamics are derived which are highly nonlinear. controller is designed based on feedback linearization to track desired trajectories. controlling the movements in the horizontal directions is simplified by utilizing the derived nonholonmic constraints. Finally, the proposed system is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK program. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

This paper proposes a robust algorithm for detecting interest points based on the NonsubSampled Contourlet Transform (NSCT). The NSCT provides multiscale decomposition with directional filters at each scale. Furthermore, NSCT is very efficient in extracting the geometric information of images and therefore it has very good feature localization. The NSCT-based point detector is compared to the widel. used Harris and Difference of Gaussian (DoG) interest point detectors. The experimental results reveal the robustness of the proposed algorithm to rotation, scale and viewpoint changes.

Decision trees have been found very effective for classification especially in data mining. Although classification is a wel. studied problem, most of the current classification algorithms need an in-memory data structure to achieve efficiency. This limits their suitability for mining over large databases. In this paper, a novel.Bitmap-based Scalable Parallel.Classifier (BSPC) is presented. It removes all the memory requirements needed by existing algorithms. Also, since scalability is a key requirement for any data mining algorithm, it is considered and achieved in the design of BSPC. Additionally, the suggested algorithm has been designed to be easily parallel.zed, allowing many processors to work together to build a single consistent model. Performance analysis demonstrates that the BSPC outperforms other state of the art algorithms. The superiority of the novel.algorithm is demonstrated through the classification of Wisconsin breast cancer dataset. © faculty of eng.neering Alexandria University.
