Banyan networks are commonly used as interconnection structures in ATM switches. This paper is concerned with the replication technique which was applied to the standard banyan networks. We apply this technique to the plane interconnected parallel network (PIPN) which is a switch introduced previously as a better banyan-based interconnection structure. The normalized throughput of unbuffered and buffered replicated PIPN is analyzed analytically under uniform traffic model. We apply the simulation technique to verify the analytical results under the uniform traffic model and to study the performance of different heterogeneous traffic models. The performance is shown to increase significantly when the replicated PIPN is used which supports the idea of using this switch as a new high-performance ATM switch.

The paper presents the performance of the switched reluctance motor. The calculation of the magnetic field and electromagnetic torque were performed using the Femm program, based on the finite element method. The calculation results are in good agreement with experimented data obtained on the prototype motor. The presented calculations enables to determine the output electromechanical parameters of the motor already being in the stage of the design.

Machine learning algorithms have recently become very popular for different tasks involving data analysis, classification or prediction. They can provide valuable knowledge for very large sets of data and can reach very good accuracy. However, most algorithms are sensitive to the nature of the data sets, as well as different calibrations which can lead to large differences in performance, accuracy or false positives. In this paper, a classification solution for imbalanced data sets containing information about defects of various trees is presented. The experimental results present a comparison that evaluates the classification performance of the Decision Tree, Random Forest, and Extremely Randomized Trees classifiers. The measures used in the comparison take into account weighted accuracy, precision, and recall for binary and multi-class classification.

A technique for real time path planning of under-actuated robots is developed. The real time path-planning problem is posed as a finite time nonlinear control problem, which is solved in parallel with an optimization technique in the real time. A new controller that is called the Fault Tolerant Motion controller (FTM) is developed. Multimedia is one of the most important aspects of the information era. With the advent of the multimedia age and the spread of Internet, video storage and streaming has been gaining a lot of popularity. When transmitting compressed video over a data network channel errors affect the decoding process. Video transmission puts constraints on data rate, computational complexity and delay. Unreliable channels add more challenges to this task as compressed video is extremely vulnerable to transmission errors. Problems arising from imperfect transmission of block coded video frame sequence result in lost blocks. This paper presents and implements a set of decoder side spatio-temporal algorithms that aim to enhance the speed and quality of the error concealment process. The results obtained by these algorithms are much faster and achieve better performance compared to the existing algorithms, which make them more suitable for real-time applications.

This paper presents a thorough analysis of the behavior of a bio-inspired model to care for casualties in a disaster. The model was proposed by the authors in a previous paper and a simulation based on it was performed and evaluated. Here, we analyze the evolution of the system and the impact that various model parameters can have over it. Once the behavior is well understood, we can then focus our research on certain groups of parameter adjustments so that with a minimum implementation cost to achieve a maximum benefit in terms of saved lives.
