This paper presents the development of a system that uses fuzzy logic in order to evaluate the thermal comfort conditions expressed by means of a score by the occupants of an office room The inputs of the system are represented by three datasets relevant to the study: the air temperature, the positioning of the occupant and the level of activity carried out by the occupant. Based on the comfort score obtained, the HVAC system located at the room level will maintain a comfortable environment. The proposed solution also contributes to the minimization of energy consumption in buildings. In order to collect the data sets necessary for the study, we used the *** module as a wearable device. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper details the integration of augmented reality (AR) in a new factory, focusing on enhancing maintenance efficiency and optimization. The innovative approach involves combining AR technology, an Android application, and Siemens PLCs (Programmable Logic controller), for efficient automation. The robustness of the PLC enables seamless integration within manufacturing environments, accommodating diverse programming paradigms. The software aspect features Human Machine Interface (HMI) configuration using Siemens' WinCC software, offering dynamic visualizations, alarm handling, and data logging. WinCC's scalability suits applications of varying sizes. The HMI architecture is designed for easy parameter display. The Android application, developed with Java and Python, leverages their respective strengths in Android app development and image processing. Data exchange is facilitated by OPC-UA, supporting multiple programming languages for seamless communication. The AR Teleassistance is highlighted as a revolutionary solution, fostering real-Time communication among global experts, technicians, and operators. Beyond gaming origins, AR teleassistance enhances efficiency in various sectors, minimizing downtime and facilitating global knowledge transfer. The integration of Teleassistance promotes effective collaboration between human expertise and automated systems, crucial for optimal performance in modern industrial settings. Continuous development is suggested through the addition of more 3D mechanical drawings and real-Time stock information for parts in the application, aiming for future optimization and performance enhancement. © 2024 IEEE.

Air pollution is one of the major environmental issues discussed lately due to its influence on human health. Particular attention is paid to air quality monitoring today and most developed societies have implemented weather and air quality monitoring stations in various locations inside or outside cities to monitor and reduce the effects of poor air quality. Modern standards and sensors have started to be used in recent years to monitor air quality. Conventional air quality monitoring systems, on the other hand, are not able to provide real-time air quality data with acceptable spatial and temporal resolutions at a low cost, so the challenge is to achieve low-cost and energy-independent solutions. Using modern technologies, e.g. Internet of-things (IoT), an original approach is proposed for building an air quality monitoring system considering low cost equipment and efficient energy autonomous approach. Smart cities have successfully implemented air quality monitoring systems that combine both hardware and software. The results presented in the paper show the viability of the proposed solution, exposing the designed solution and different ways of presenting air quality monitoring. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper proposes a framework for real-time monitoring of the power consumption of distributed calculation on the nodes of the cluster. The framework allows to visualize and analyze the provider results based on the context information about the performed calculation. The first part of the framework is devoted to monitoring the power consumption during the execution of machine learning algorithms and the performance of NoSQL storage. The second part is dedicated to the testing of distributed data storage, called Scalable Distributed Two-Layered Data Structure (SD2DS). The results show that the framework can be used in the development of a management system that could schedule computations to take full advantage of renewable energy. Phase contrast imaging is based on the refraction of the X-ray beam as it passes through the material and shows excellent results for biological tissues. In this paper, we present a new approach for a Python algorithm that can filtrate phase contrast images (attenuation, phase, and scattering) and improve the identification of the interest object. The images used in this work were obtained with a 5.66 m long Talbot-Lau interferometer with a record angular sensitivity of 0.82 µradians, a phase stepping procedure of 16 steps, and a mean energy of 30 keV. The sample used was 0.89 mm diameter fiber from an accredited mammographic phantom. The proposed algorithm extracts the attenuation, phase, and scattering images from the dataset using Fast Fourier Transform. For filtration, we implemented a non-linear filter (median) to eliminate the noise generated by the acquisition system and the projection processing and to improve the contrast. The results were analyzed by calculation of the contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR). © 2023, Politechnica University of Bucharest. All rights reserved.

During the last few years, there has been a growing interest in the topic of using natural or synthetic esters as an alternative to mineral oils in oil transformers due to the easier way to obtain them and their ability to exhibit better electrical properties. In addition, more and more researchers are describing in their work that doping esters with nanoparticles is capable of further improving these properties. Therefore, in the current work, it was decided to see what effect the addition of a hydrophobic carbon shell iron nanoparticle to ORLEN mineral oil and Midel 7131 synthetic ester would have on selected electrical parameters of the insulating fluid, i.e. breakdown voltage and electrical strength. © 2023 IEEE.

Sensors are the foundation to facilitate smart cities, smart grids, and smart transportation, and distance sensors are especially important for sensing the environment and gathering information. Researchers have developed various methods to calibrate distance sensors;however, they mainly focus on using external information for calibration, which is inefficient and computationally expensive. To alleviate the above problems, we propose machine learning (ML)-based calibration approaches for distance sensors. We develop two calibration mechanisms, where the naive mechanism directly predicts the true distance, while the residual mechanism predicts the residual for calibration. The conventional ML regression algorithms are then adopted to predict the true distance or calibration residual. Experimental results show that the designed residual calibration mechanism outperforms the naive mechanism by reducing the root mean square error (RMSE) by 92.2% and mean absolute error (MAE) by 93.3% in the fitting task. In prediction, the proposed 2-D-residual mechanism achieves an improvement of 78.6% and 65.7% compared to the state-of-the-art method. The experimental results show the effectiveness and generalization of the proposed ML-based calibration method, especially for the 2-D mechanism, which achieves the highest robustness in all fitting and prediction tasks. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) represents a significant shift in network architecture, providing exceptional programmability, flexibility, and simplified management. However, this paradigm shift introduces a unique set of security challenges that must be addressed to fully realize the potential of SDN. This paper examines the security issues in SDN environments, detailing the threats and vulnerabilities at various layers of the SDN architecture, including the control plane, data plane, and application plane. Through an extensive review of current literature, critical security challenges such as controller attacks, data plane breaches, and vulnerabilities in inter-plane communications are identified. Existing security solutions and mitigation strategies, such as authentication and authorization mechanisms, encryption techniques, and intrusion detection systems, are also explored. Furthermore, the paper discusses recent advances and emerging trends in SDN security, offering insights into ongoing research and future directions. The findings underscore the importance of robust security measures in ensuring the reliability and integrity of SDN deployments, providing a foundation for future innovation and development in this dynamic field. © 2024 IEEE.

This work presents the results of the examination of the HeLa cell line exposure on the ELF-EMF (extremely low-frequency electromagnetic field). In particular, the relationship between ELF-EMF exposition time and cell death. The examination of cell death hallmarks were examined by estimation levels of selected proteins - FACL4 (a protein that is a part of the ferroptosis pathway) and CK18 (Cytokeratin related to necrosis and apoptosis pathways) in the proposed model of workers exposed to ELF-EMF week. © 2024 IEEE.

Facial landmark detection (FLD) is a field of study in computer vision that specializes in detecting and tracking key points from human faces. There are many applications, such as detecting a human's head pose (position and rotation), tracking whether drivers are paying attention or not, applying augmented reality, etc. This paper proposes to evaluate and decide what are the optimal techniques of image enhancement that can be used to improve different algorithms of FLD. After proposing different pipelines of contrast enhancement and grayscale conversion to enhance the image before applying the FLD algorithm, the results show that the performance will not increase drastically if an image enhancement pipeline is used, but for the reason that this step will not consume a lot of time in the process of detection, it is a step worth considering. © 2022 IEEE.
