Near-Field Source Localization in 3-D Using Two Parallel Centrally Symmetric Unfold Coprime Array

Most near-field (NF) localization algorithms cannot deal with the underdetermined case, while those which can are computationally expensive due to employment of fourth-order cumulants. In this work, a low-complexity solution is provided for underdetermined three-dimensional (3-D) NF localization, by employing second-order statistics with a tailored array configuration named two parallel centrally symmetric unfold coprime (TPSC) array. Its implementation can be divided into three stages. Firstly, the proposed algorithm constructs two cross-correlation matrices based on the received array data, which eliminates the non-linear range-related information of NF signals. Secondly, covariance and vectorization operations are applied to these two cross-correlation matrices to form a virtual array with extended aperture. Finally, the two-dimensional (2-D) angle parameters are estimated by the sparse and parametric approach (SPA) and a phase retrieval operation, and then the one-dimensional (1-D) range parameter is achieved by the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm. One specific feature is that the estimated angle and range parameters are matched automatically. An analysis of the properties of the TPSC array is provided, and an optimal parameter configuration is derived, given that the total number of array elements is fixed. Simulation results demonstrate that the designed TPSC array can achieve underdetermined 3-D NF localization, and deliver enhanced estimation capabilities, surpassing those of established algorithms. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

This work focuses on reengineering an HMI implemented in a third-party legacy tool to an IEC 61499 implementation. We propose a method to re-engineer the view for a process system and gather relevant information for the migration of the controller to IEC 6499. The proposed methodology has been tested and demonstrated using a lab-scale 'Water process system' that is currently controlled using an IEC 61131-3 compliant PLC with a view and HMI developed on a legacy tool. It is intended to migrate to the IEC 61499-compliant EcoStruxure automation Expert (EAE) tool. © 2023 IEEE.

Torque-speed curves are an essential characteristic of induction motors. Often, there is a need for a quick and straightforward determination of these curves. Typically, an analytical approach is employed to establish the relationship between motor speed and torque. Such an approach has previously been introduced for single-cage induction motor in existing literature. Hence, in this paper, the analytical approach is extended to account for deep-bar or skin effects. The torque curves derived from the proposed method are then compared to those obtained from the field measurement data reported in the published data. Good agreements can be observed. © 2023 IEEE.

Green modular datacentres are a new class of datacentres which can reduce the carbon footprints of the datacentre industry which accounts for close to 1% of total energy use worldwide. Green modular datacentres can operate as a prosumer and contribute energy to the energy grid through participation in the energy market as a part of the energy community. This paper investigates the interoperability of the datacentre in the energy community by proposing an IEC 61850 Logical Device model for a green modular datacentre. The applicability of the datacentre model is demonstrated through the re-implementation of the Energy Management System of an edge datacentre installation with the proposed IEC 61850 Logical Device model and its logical implementation in IEC 61499. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents the creation of a series of function blocks with the specific aim of testing the portability of IEC 61499 applications across diverse development and runtime environments. These function blocks have been developed to cover a wide range of test scenarios, including basic data types, functions, boundary conditions, and adapter features. The function blocks can be conveniently exported or imported through the use of XML files, thus facilitating seamless testing. By testing the runtime environment of different IEC 61499 systems, these function blocks help to identify and highlight any possible issues that may arise related to portability. © 2023 IEEE.

The rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) have paved the way for innovative solutions to address global energy challenges. This paper explores the integration of AI and IoT in energy conservation, focusing on their combined potential to optimize energy consumption, enhance system efficiency, and support sustainable development. AI-driven predictive analytics and machine learning algorithms enable accurate energy demand forecasting and real-time decision-making, while IoT devices facilitate seamless data collection, monitoring, and control of energy systems. The synergy of these technologies has been instrumental in transforming energy management across various sectors, including smart grids, industrial automation, and smart buildings. However, their adoption comes with significant challenges, such as data security, interoperability, and the high cost of deployment. This review discusses the current state of AI and IoT in energy conservation, identifies key challenges, highlights emerging opportunities, and examines future trends, such as the role of blockchain and edge computing in decentralized energy systems. Navigating the world with visual impairments presents unique challenges, often limiting independence and safety. This research introduces SafeStride, a novel algorithm designed to empower visually impaired individuals through real-time obstacle detection and navigation assistance. SafeStride functions through five interconnected phases: sensor data acquisition, data preprocessing, obstacle detection, path planning, and feedback and guidance. A combination of ultrasonic sensors, cameras, and inertial measurement units (IMUs) feed comprehensive environmental data into the system, enabling accurate obstacle detection and safe path planning. Evaluating SafeStride's performance involved the MNIST dataset for image recognition and a dedicated indoor object detection dataset. Additionally, comparisons were made against three deep learning models—convolutional neural network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), and gated recurrent unit (GRU). The results showcased SafeStride's high accuracy and effectiveness in both obstacle detection and classification. Beyond its impressive performance, SafeStride represents a significant leap forward in navigation aids for the visually impaired. By offering a comprehensive solution that enhances safety and independence in diverse environments, it holds immense potential to improve the lives of countless individuals. Future efforts will focus on further optimizing the algorithm and testing its real-world capabilities, paving the way for a future where safe and independent navigation becomes a reality for all. All three deep learning models (CNN, LSTM, GRU) excelled in the experiment, achieving high accuracy above 0.98, strong recall and F1-scores near 0.99, and exceptional AUC-ROC scores exceeding 0.9998. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Nowadays, three-phase inverters are playing an increasingly important role in various applications, such as drives, solar systems, energy storage systems. The commonly used PI current control method in the d-q coordinate system satisfies the requirements of most of the cases. However, in some specific applications, such as a grid-connected inverter for an energy storage system, the PI controller response time may not be sufficient to meet the criteria. This paper describes the application of the PCMC (Peak Current Mode Control) control technique, which is commonly used for DC-DC converters, and applies it to the case of three-phase two-level inverters. Advantages and disadvantages of PCMC compared to a conventional PI control solution are presented, and the performance of the two control techniques is compared for a grid connected energy storage inverter. © 2024, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ). This paper presents and discusses two methods for collecting data from decentralised control applications designed in IEC 61499 architecture. The topic is justified by the growing use of Cloud-based storage and presentation services in the Internet-of-Things systems. Enabling IEC 61499 devices with the capabilities of storing data in the Cloud and using web-based data presentation and data analytics is of great practical importance. Moreover, what is the most elegant way to configure such data streaming in IEC 61499 is an open question, to solving which this paper aims to provide state-of-the-art information. © 2023 IEEE.

Due to its distributed, decentralized database and capacity to offer immutability, tamper resistance, and transparency qualities, blockchain technology has attracted interest for use in the healthcare sector. Blockchain technology integration has the potential to enhance healthcare data management. By incorporating blockchain, healthcare networks can establish trust and ensure data security and privacy. However, existing studies mainly focus on the relationship between patients and hospitals, neglecting the incorporation of insurance aspects such as indemnity and insurance reimbursement. This paper proposed to address this issue by proposing a comprehensive blockchain-based healthcare system that encompasses the entire process, from patient registration to payment and insurance claiming procedures. The paper's focus on privacy rules, which enables the systematic management of hospital data in compliance with regulations including the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), is a major strength. The legal framework has been carefully examined to facilitate the implementation of this project. The system implemented in this study utilizes Hyperledger Besu, a private blockchain platform. Given the sensitivity of healthcare data, a privacy group and permission settings are employed to prevent unauthorized access. The technical design of the healthcare network and an early-stage prototype are described in detail. © 2023 IEEE.
