It is well known, that the electrical energy storage in the large scale is basically difficult process. Such a process is marked by the energy losses, as the conversion of electrical energy into another form is most frequently. Though, the superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) technology offers the energy storage in an unchanged form, which is advantageous primarily in the achieved efficiency. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) devices, commonly used in the medical facilities, there is possibility of using such ecological devices for energy storage purposes, after its rejection from operation. The paper gives a short review of current UPS and energy storage technologies, SMES applications and short section about a research project running at the faculty of Mining, Ecology, Process control and Geotechnologies at Technical University in Kǒice, Slovakia, which deals with using rejected MRI for electrical energy storage and backup power supply purposes.

The paper presents two calculus algorithms for the study of the compressible fluid's stationary movement through profile grids on an axial-symmetric flow-surface. The first method is based on an iterative formula developed by the authors to calculate the complex conjugate velocity (using the CVBEM algorithm). The second method solves the fundamental integral equation in real values by a priori building up the velocity potential's integral equation (BEM method). In this case it is presented the necessity of using the Lagrangian interpolation formula through five points for the calculation of the derivatives of the velocity potential. In both cases the consecutive approximations can be organized simultaneously or successive with respect to parameters ς (fluid's density) and h (thickness variation of fluid stratum).

An analysis of the effect of parasitics and reverse recovery on harmonic distortion in a class D audio amplifier is performed in this paper. The error sources under investigation are modelled empirically as an amplitude error, after which an existing strategy based on Newton's numerical method is implemented to simulate its effect within the audible band. The results are compared to existing timing errors to determine its degree of dominance.

Prognostic is nowadays recognized as a key feature in maintenance strategies as it should allow avoiding inopportune maintenance spending. Real prognostic systems are however scarce in industry. That can be explained from different aspects, on of them being the difficulty of choosing an efficient technology: many approaches to support the prognostic process exist, whose applicability is highly dependent on industrial constraints. Thus, the general purpose of the paper is to explore the way of performing failure prognostics so that manager can act consequently. Different aspects of prognostic are discussed. The prognostic process is (re)defined and an overview of prognostic metrics is given. Following that, the “prognostic approaches” are described. The whole aims at giving an overview of the prognostic area, both from the academic and industrial points of views.

The paper deals with problematic of Thermal Response Test (TRT) system. The correct design of borehole heat exchangers for ground source heat pumps and the knowledge of rock massive thermal properties is paramount. For small heat pumps systems these parameters are estimated. However, for larger objects the thermal conductivity should be measured on site. Thermal Response Test is an useful tool for thermal conductivity estimation. This test is instrumental to find out a response of rock massive in which a heat pump might be installed. The paper describes basic principles of TRT and its utilization for heat pump boreholes design.

The objective of this study is to develop an algorithm for detecting oestrus in dairy cows from measurements of activity and duration of lying/standing periods. The algorithm derived in this paper analyses measurements of activity and measurements of lying/standing periods. Each cows activity is measured by a necklace attached sensor that returns an activity index for each hour. Lying period duration is measured by a sensor attached on the cows hind leg. Activity and lying/standing behaviour are modelled as a discrete event system, constructed using automata theory. In an attempt to capture a biologically inspired lying balance, a lying balance indicator is constructed and is influencing transition probabilities in the stochastic automaton. The cows lying-balance indicates how much the cow has been resting during the immediately past period, and the balance express to the automaton, the tendency of the cow to continue resting or not. Change detectors are designed based on probability maximization ideas and results of decision algorithms are presented for oestrus detection. Detection based on the lying balance indicator and the two sets of measured information are demonstrated to increase the detection sensitivity to 100% for the set of ten cows.

In this paper, control of parallel single-phase inverters in direct-quadrature(DQ) rotating frame based on droop method is proposed. For each inverter, a secondary orthogonal imaginary circuit is created to provide the second phase required for the transformation; thus a DQ model of the inverter is obtained. The DQ transformation provides a time-invariant model of the inverter which makes the control design similar to that of dc-dc converters. The recognition of this analogy is important in that all of advanced dc-dc converters control techniques that have been previously developed can be applied to the control parallel inverters. The controller then is designed in DQ frame. Theoretically, infinite loop gain can be achieved in DQ rotating frame resulting in the elimination of the steady state error at the fundamental frequency of the inverter. The output impedance of the inverters is also considered, to ensure the decoupling between active and reactive power control using droop method. Simulation results are provided to prove the concept.

Similar to the shape description using Mexican Hat Wavelet functions we present in this paper the derivation of object descriptors using Haar Wavelets. The derivation is based on the continuous wavelet transformation of an angle function using the Haar function as mother wavelet. The angle function which represents a given object shape is derived from the extracted contour polygon by computing the angle differences between the angles at every position on the contour and the angle at the starting point. This angle function is periodical but with 2 offset and can be normalized in order to be independent of the object's size, it's position and orientation. The angle function depends only on the starting point on the given contour. Moreover, the used angle function doesn't include any singularity which might arise due to object rotations. The derived Wavelet descriptors were used in an agricultural application to recognize weed species. The paper presents in this context some derived results as well as possible solution for the problem of starting point.
