In our paper we are proposing a complex model of the student (learner) in a virtual educational environment, supported by a multi-agent system. The whole system is centered on the student and it mainly takes into account Vygotsky's socio-cultural theory that states that social interaction plays a fundamental role in the development of cognition. The model is part of a larger project - DANTE - Socio-Cultural Models implemented through multi-agent architecture for e-learning - that has as main objective the development of a student centred framework for the virtual educational universe that facilitates collaborative learning. The virtual educational world is inhabited by agents: human agents and artificial agents that interact. Agents can be mediating agents, semiotic agents or social agents;they can be intelligent software entities or simple ones, like interface agents.

We have proposed an algorithm for optimal real-time routing in multi-hop communication networks for multi-source/multi-sink connection. The algorithm deals with various capacity constraints in terms of communication limits and real-time constraints expressed as deadline for each particular flow of data. The objective is to find the optimal routing in terms of energy consumption. The algorithm is based on a data flow model leading to Linear Programming formulation and therefore it ensures polynomial-time complexity. An extension handling simultaneous real-time and non real-time routing is added. An example of data collection from 100 nodes is presented and performance experiments illustrating time complexity in dependence on the number of nodes are given.

In this paper we present the results of object recognition using Mexican Hat wavelet descriptors. These descriptors are derived from the continuous wavelet transformation using the Mexican Hat function as mother wavelet. To describe an object shape we use an angle function derived from the extracted contour polygon. The angle function is periodical and independent from the size of the object, its position or orientation. It depends only on the starting point of the contour. The contour extraction is based here on the object oriented contour extraction method (OCE). The polygon representation uses the curvature dependent contour approximation method (CDCA). The continuous wavelet transform (CWT) is used in order to derive a suitable number of wavelet descriptors (WD).

This paper examines capabilities of artificial neural network (ANN) regarding control of a heavy vehicle seat with semi-active damper. Matlab and its sub-application Simulink are used as a tool for developing simulation model of the driver seat in the heavy vehicles. The seat model with semi-active damper is built modularly by forming each of its components separately. Designed control model was tested in Matlab/Simulink, and then was verified on experimental setup, installed on the Department for automaticcontrol of the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen-Nurnberg. After introductory remarks, this work considers description of the seat with semi active damper including mechanical characteristics and mathematical description of major components, theoretical remark about ANNs, control system description and implementation on experimental setup, using dSPACE module.
