The paper presents a method for the determination of the capacitance matrix needed in modelling and simulation of signal transmission in multiple coupled interconnecting lines. The method utilises capacitance measurements and thus one of its useful application areas is in the validation of numerous previously published algorithms based on various approximations to field equations, originally developed for the computation of capacitance matrices. The technique described is based on the active separation of the capacitance network, achieved through the use of a unity-gain amplifier. Thanks to the circuit configurations introduced with a unity-gain amplifier it is possible to make direct capacitance measurements in the multiconductor interconnecting structures. Measurement procedures are described and analysis of errors in measured quantities caused by the imperfections of measuring equipment is discussed. A sample of results obtained in measuring manufactured test structures is included for illustration of the method and measuring procedures.

The algorithms based on digital signal processing for impedance components' evaluation in circuits with sampling transducer have been analysed. It is supposed that the voltage and current are sampled synchronously to the fundamental frequency of the generated sinusoidal signal. Two fitting sine wave algorithms, which are based on the least mean square (LMS) technique, have been described. The first one reconstructs indirect measurement method. The second algorithm estimates the unknown impedance components by direct method. The uncertainty's propagation by described algorithms can be analysed by means of covariance matrix. The elements of covariance matrix are dependent on the phase angles of the measurement signals. It is shown that those algorithms provide minimization of uncertainty for selected number of samples and phase angles. The influence's simulations of quantization error of the AD converter and jitters of sampling time for described algorithms on uncertainty processing results have been carried out.

Different approaches to the solution of the AGV transportation system control are presented in the paper. The first one is based upon the standard Petri nets extended for control. A way of the process control level modeling is shown. It is a basis for the control of the AGV system at the coordination level. An outline of the transportation co-ordination algorithm is described. Another approach is via supervisory control combined with a routing optimization algorithm. Then an approach using colored Petri nets is presented. All approaches are compared.

In this paper new necessary and sufficient conditions for static output feedback robust controller design for linear discrete time-invariant systems have been used. The output feedback robust controller design may be reduced to the problem of finding a feasible point under Biaffine Matrix Inequality constraint. In this paper the BMI problem of the output feedback robust controller design has been reduced to LMIs problem. The proposed LMI based algorithms are computationally simple and tightly connected with the Lyapunov function, quadratic stability, guaranteed cost and LQ optimal state feedback design. The structure of the output gain matrix can be prescribed by the designer.

Distillation columns constitute a significant fraction of the capital invested in the refineries around the world; their control requires a major part of the total operating cost of chemical processes, if the used strategy is not adequate. This article presents the application of optimal fuzzy control to reduce the energy consumption of a Benzene-Toluene distillation column. This method is based on the determination of the specific values of the fuzzy controller parameters such that certain performance criterion is minimised. Results of a simulation study are presented showing the potential improvement offered by this method.

The paper proposes a solution to a class of scheduling problems where the goal is to minimize the schedule (production) time. The algorithm, which takes into account a model of a hybrid system described as MLD ( mixed logical dynamical ) system, is based on performance driven reachability analysis. The algorithm abstracts the behavior of the hybrid system by building a tree of evolution. Nodes of the tree represent reachable states of a process, and the branches connect two nodes if a transition exists between the corresponding states. To each node a cost function value is associated and based on this value, the tree exploration is driven. As soon as the tree is explored, the global solution to the scheduling problem is obtained.
