The supervisory control problem in the discrete event dynamic systems (DEDS) is formulated using input-state-output system structure. A class of the Petri nets is defined enabling an effective and practically useful representation of the structural and dynamic properties of DEDS. A solution of the supervisory control using the Petri nets and the corresponding reachability graphs is presented and illustrated on an example.

An efficient algorithm “SIMFIL” for simultaneous parameter tracking and state estimation for linear ARMAX systems was presented in (Havlena, 1993a). The underlying problem of the determination of suitable model structure (model order and/or pure delay) is treated here from bayesian point of view.

A matrix framework is developed for modelling the workcell dynamics and designing digital controllers. The workcell functions are seperated from the controller, in the contrast to the Petri-net model where the workcell and the controller functions are undifferentiated This framework unites the industrial engineering approaches with the petri-net formulations and opens perspecrives for the sample-data control of flexible manufacturing systems. An illustrative example gives an overview of the overall design procedure.

The military services are being moved in the direction of performance-based specifications and standards. They are being steered against dictating ''how to'' produce an item since such action forecloses on the ability to gain access to components or technology that may have a commercial equivalent. Why should the engineering community embrace the new approach? Aside from the obvious weight of it being approved policy, therefore currently mandated, it warrants examination because it is the correct approach at this time when applied to appropriate products. Military specifications and standards are to be displaced then, by acceptable alternative contractor design solutions. Industry bidders will be allowed to propose the particular design details, permitting procurement flexibility by contractually citing only system level or interface requirements, both physical and functional. Hopefully, this can broaden the industrial base and increase competition with reduced costs to follow. Conceptually, the approach appears both performance-sensible and cost-attractive (there are, of course, consequent risks) but how does implementation proceed? Is it possible to pursue the goals envisioned along paths that are not in themselves experimental? Can the American postulate, minimal loss of life and limb to U.S. military people, continue to be honored? Experience and track record elsewhere imply encouraging possibilities in select situations-useful prospects are identified and discussed in practical terms.

Decentralized adaptive control schemes using the principle of dominant subsystems are presented for time-varying nonlinear dynamic large-scale interconnected systems. Sufficient conditions for the existence of local decentralized adaptive control laws stabilizing a given large-scale system (LSS) are derived in terms of controller parameters for incompletely known composite systems. The approach proposed in this paper is applied to nonlinear stabilizing adaptive decentralized control (ADC) of multimachine power systems. The stability of the multimachine power systems with the ADC is illustrated by the simulation results for a two machine system.

There has been a considerable increase in activity in the field of identification of nonlinear systems. Side by side with the identification of discrete-time models based on Kolmogorov-Gabor polynomials, artificial neural networks, etc., there has been a great deal of progress in the identification of continuous-time models governed by ordinary differential equations. This paper attempts to give an overview of the existing modelling frameworks and makes a comparison among them on the basis of their approximating abilities, computational requirements, on-line applicability etc.< >

The task of simultaneous tracking of time-varying parameters and estimation of the state is treated for a linear stochastic system described by a time-varying multi-input multi-output ARMAX model with known AR (noise) parameters. Bayesian approach hased conceptual solution as well as an algorithmic solution are presented. An approximation of the AR parameters in the case of output error model is discussed.
This paper presents optimum pairing and ordering (P/O) conditions for simultaneous reduction in total capacitance, sensitivity and output noise of cascade SC filters. First, investigating relations among conditions pr...

The paper discuss fundamental determinations of intelligent system for collecting, analysing and presentation of underwater environment information, currently in development under the contract of Ministry of science, technology and informatics of Republic Croatia. System is conceived as an *** few distinctive parts. In the middle of the system is a commercial, remotely operated underwater vehicle equipped with different sensors including video camera. Vehicle is controlled by computer located on the base ship through the umbilical cable. The second important part is a computerized system for selective collecting, analysing and presentation of underwater environment information. Beside the usual vehicle manual control, the system will posses a certain intelligent properties and reaction currently in development under the sub project: SUBMERSIBLE, SENSORS and EXPERT. Sub project SUBMERSIBLE includes theoretical investigation and development of - intelligent, automatic, self-protective vehicle reactions in hazardous situations. - sensory based vehicle control, from conventional auto depth and auto heading control, to more sophisticated vision-based control which includes dynamic scene and motion analysis, and vision-based obstacle-avoidance. Sub project SENSORS is dedicated to development of - system for intelligent and selective collecting of information obtained by sensors taking into account, the main mission task, and - fusion of information obtained by different sensors and their integration in complete picture of underwater environment. The third sub project EXPERT includes theoretical analysis and development of methods and procedures for - post processing of collected data including intelligent interpretation and incorporation of human knowledge about environment, - presentation of data and knowledge using "hypermedia" principles for interactive communication between user and machine. The paper presents fundamental determinations, the structure and meth
