automatic or semi-automatic recognition of selected emotions using Machine Learning (ML) algorithms requires practical, fast and accurate implementation of the steps involved in acquiring the actual signals (e.g. speech, facial expression, posture and body movements), recording them in the form of an optimal feature vector/matrix, correctly interpreting the above data and reproducing and generalising this process within the ML system. Depending on the accuracy and speed required and the degree of its ‘invasiveness’ (e.g. by attaching sensors to the user’s body), single or multi-modal interpretations of biometric signals associated with different groups of emotions are possible. This group of studies, despite their relative non-invasiveness, requires the caution prescribed by the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act and RODO Act and the possibility of being replaced (if necessary) by alternatives. This article aims to analyse the opportunities and risks associated with this group of technologies, with a particular focus on directions for further development.

The life cycle of a petroleum product reflects the evolution of its sales volume over time and represents the interval between its introduction on the market and its definitive disappearance from the commodity exchange arena. During the life cycle of a petroleum product, the company marketing it will keep on reformulating the adopted marketing strategies, as determined by variable conditions and new challenges on the side of the competition, along with the changes in customers' interests and their requirements in relation to the product; therefore, appropriate marketing strategies must be developed for each stage in the life cycle of the petroleum product in order to increase its marketing profitability, even though its existence is limited over time.

Pest detection and identification in a timely manner is a crucial step for precision agriculture. Halyomorpha Halys is a common pest whose negative effects are known in agricultural areas and on various crops. The present work implemented and studied four performant neural networks, VGG19_BN, EfficientNetB7, DenseNet161, and ResNet152 for the detection of these insects. Although the detection of these insects in the natural environment through automated means, excluding traps, is a challenge, the results obtained are promising.

This paper presents a combination of two methods that can be effectively combined for control of electrical machines. The first method enables real-time identification of electrical and mechanical parameters based on differential geometry and geometric algebra. The second method enables robust control of electrical machines, even when the knowledge about parameters is incomplete. In combination, the two methods open a path for successful control of electrical machines with unknown and/or time varying parameters. © 2022 IEEE.

Signal averaging (SA) is a procedure used to increase signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), applied in various fields, such as biomedical engineering or nanotechnology. Assuming that the noise is random and of zero mean, its average across multiple signals tends to zero. As a result, every additional measurement in the average should raise the SNR. In order for the SA to work, however, averaged signals should be in-phase. Otherwise, obtained average will not properly represent the sample signals, since their characteristic fragments will be deformed or repeated. Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) is an algorithm which can solve synchronicity problems. Using DTW, however, causes changes in the character of noise; it is no longer completely random, since its values get warped along with the desired signal. Violating the randomness of noise requirement results in weakened capability of the SA to increase the SNR. In this work, two main questions were answered: for which level of the input signals' SNR, DTW average works well, and how many sample signals should be used in order to improve SNR. Results were obtained using a modeled electrocardiogram, which has been distorted by randomly warping it and adding white noise. To average signals under the DTW, Nonlinear Alignment and Averaging Filter (NLAAF) algorithm was used.

The article presents studies using an optical spectrophotometer during the recording of partial discharges in natural ester with admixtures of nanoparticles. Optical spectra of ultraviolet, visible and near-infrared light were recorded. The results of electrical strength measurements for admixtures for several weight concentrations are presented. The analysis of spectrum distribution into individual ranges was done and a possible explanation of increase in electrical strength of nanofluids and change of spectral range in relation to pure electroinsulating liquid was proposed. Natural ester Midel 1204 was doped with iron nanopowder in hydrophobic carbon shells. The electrical strength pattern was observed for some combinations and the shift of the optical spectrum from the visible range for the pure liquid to the ultraviolet range for the mixtures was observed.

This paper describes the idea of novel approach to creating an expert system for partial discharge (PD) assessment in power transformers. The proposed system is intended to support the decision-making process regarding technical condition assessment of power transformers. The primal objective of this study is to share the idea with the academia and industry in order to find potential partners interested in practical realization of such a solution. Moreover, this paper analyzes state of the art in the field of expert systems for PD, introduces experience and competences of the research team involved in this project, and presents the results of surveys among industrial entities representing the point of view and needs of the transformer market in this matter. Results show that in most cases, contemporary PD analysis systems do not meet all the needs of their end users, and proposed expert system is sought by the industry, and would be willingly used in their practice.

Due to its biological conditions, the cartilage of the knee joint is exposed to overuse injuries caused by chronic, repetitive movements that cause microscopic damage, resulting in softening, fibrosis and the formation of fissures called chondromalacia. The friction of cartilage surfaces generates vibrations and acoustic sounds. Vibroarthrography is a non-invasive method of analysing registered mechanical vibrations. The authors compare the six descriptors including the standard and the proposed ones based on selected frequencies and processing spectrogram results. The paper provides effectiveness analysis of descriptors in two diagnostic cases: the healthy knee group (66 signals) vs the first stage chondromalacia (26 signals) and the third stage chondromalacia (36 signals) vs the osteoarthritis (26 signals). The effectiveness is assessed using the overlap coefficient. The paper indicates the descriptors with the highest diagnostic potential for classification accuracy.

DC-DC conversion in electric vehicle chargers can require a single or multiple stages depending on both electrical architecture and amount of processed power. When isolation is provided by an output stage, a unidirectional isolated DC-DC converter is required. Among the possible candidates, the LLC resonant converter and the phase shifted full-bridge (FSFB) converter show several advantages which has made them preferred choices in recent literature. This paper compares the efficiency of both converters on equal basis under the variable load conditions imposed by a cycle of the conventional constant-current constant-voltage (CC-CV) charging protocol. To support the study, scale-down experimental prototypes of both converters have been implemented and evaluated in laboratory showing the superiority of the LLC resonant converter for almost the entire range of operation.
