The Kaizen concept represents a continuous improvement approach to exploiting the potential of human capital. Employees are the bearers and co-creators of values and their performance contributes to increasing efficiency and therefore education strategies need to be directed to the education of university students, potential workers in enterprises in the labor market. In education, there is scope for using the Kaizen concept as an incentive tool that increases the quality of human potential and the level of human factor education. Improving proposals bring the human factor the possibility of self-realization, personal development and career advancement. In the pedagogical process, it is possible to implement the Kaizen method in a questionnaire survey on the quality of education at higher education institutions in terms of the improvement of individual subjects. Improvements have resulted in an increase in the quality of education because, on the basis of the surveys, we have creatively prepared the study plan for field of study Management of earth resources. © 2018, International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference. Privacy of real-time pricing in smart grid

Installing smart meters to publish real-time electricity rates has been controversial while it might lead to privacy concerns. Dispatched rates include fine-grained data on aggregate electricity consumption in a zone and could potentially be used to infer a household's pattern of energy use or its occupancy. In this paper, we propose Blowfish privacy to protect the occupancy state of the houses connected to a smart grid. First, we introduce a Markov model of the relationship between electricity rate and electricity consumption. Next, we develop an algorithm that perturbs electricity rates before publishing them to ensure users' privacy. Last, the proposed algorithm is tested on data inspired by household occupancy models and its performance is compared to an alternative solution. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Feature design and selection is one of the first steps towards successful fault detection and diagnosis. Data from different sources can contain complimentary information about a monitored system. Hence methods which fuse features from multiple sources can often detect and diagnose a greater number of fault modes with higher confidence. However, solutions that require data from multiple sensors as inputs can be susceptible to failure if one or more of those sensors cease to function. Optimally a solution will fuse data from a sufficient number of sensors so that the advantages of sensor fusion are realized, while the robustness of the system is retained. In this paper the authors investigate how the best subset of features might differ for fault detection and fault severity diagnosis in a multiphase flow facility case study. ReliefF, which is a K-nearest neighbors-based feature selection filter, is used to rank the features for different problems. The dataset used for the analysis contains data from various operating conditions and induced faults with various severities. It was found that the optimal subset of features varied for different monitoring problems. It was also shown that including features that are ranked as being uninformative into a fault classifier can also impact the robustness of the classifier to sensor failures.

Background: Systems Medicine is a novel approach to medicine, that is, an interdisciplinary field that considers the human body as a system, composed of multiple parts and of complex relationships at multiple levels, and further integrated into an environment. Exploring Systems Medicine implies understanding and combining concepts coming from diametral different fields, including medicine, biology, statistics, modeling and simulation, and data science. Such heterogeneity leads to semantic issues, which may slow down implementation and fruitful interaction between these highly diverse fields. Methods: In this review, we collect and explain more than100 terms related to Systems Medicine. These include both modeling and data science terms and basic systems medicine terms, along with some synthetic definitions, examples of applications, and lists of relevant references. Although the response mechanism of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) based sensors exposed to a variety of gases has been extensively discussed and studied, pristine onion-like carbon (OLCs), part from the same class of fullerenes, have not been fully investigated as sensing application. A room-temperature working chemiresistor based on onion-like carbons (OLCs) as sensing element with good sensitivity has been developed and tested with the main purpose of being implemented within the next generation of gas sensors. Many industries require a room temperature working gas sensor without an external heating source: leakage detections of explosive gases (such as hydrogen), detection of flammable gases and explosives in plants, biomedicine and pharmaceutics, monitor combustibles, early detection of fires, real-time detections of toxic or pathogenic gases in industries, ambient environmental monitoring and control. One industry that would also benefit from development of such a sensor is the food industry which requires a smart label that warns the consumer on the presence of toxic substances to avoid ingestion of contaminated food. Ingestion of food contaminated with different chemicals due to a malfunctioned manufacturing process or due to food spoilage from an improper storage could trigger severe trauma within human body. © 2018 IMEKO-International Measurement Federation Secretariat. In this paper, we present a comparison study on the performance of cylindrical gate (CG) MOSFET with graded channel doping (GC), dual metal gate (DMG) and dual oxide thickness (DOT). We develop compact model of short channel characteristics like drain current density, transconductance and drain conductance for this new structure (GC-DMG-DOT) SG MOSFET by solving 2D Poisson equation. The results are compared with the DMG MOSFET and DMG-DOT MOSFET devices. The model results are validated by numerical simulation results obtained by commercially simulator TCAD ATLAS. © 2018 IEEE.

In this study, a remote monitoring sewage system based on optical method is presented for the first time. The built-in wastewater surveillance system can perform autonomous monitoring with no requirement of sample collection and its transport to the laboratory. The measurement results can be obtained in real time, the work operation allows continuous or on-demand mode. The study includes design, development and application of a biofunctionalized fiber-optic sensor, as well as engaging machine learning algorithms for measured signals classification. The validated SARS-CoV-2 antibodies sensor has a measurement range of 10 −12 mg/mL to 10 −1 mg/mL. Known concentrations of Immunoglobulin G (IgG) from 10 −6 mg/mL to 10 −1 mg/mL were added to the tested wastewater samples and then detected by the prepared optical probe. The data obtained were then processed and classified by traditional method and selected machine learning algorithms; the results obtained for the KNeighbors algorithm are Balanced Accuracy of 92.97 % and F1-score of 94.19 %. This study is of significance to establish a system that can effectively monitor the outbreak of potential infections in society.

Robust cooperative synchronization of homogeneous agents with delays on directed communication graphs

This study deals with analysis and control of cooperative synchronization for identical agents interacting on a directed graph topology. The agents are considered to have general continuous linear time-invariant dynamics with homogeneous communication and/or control delays. An LMI approach based on a Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional is proposed, together with the synchronizing region concept, which decouples the single-agent dynamics from the detailed graph topology. Moreover, the conventional notion of synchronizing region is here extended by an LMI relaxation utilizing quasi-convex characteristic of the problem. This leads to less conservative results for the region of graph matrix eigenvalues in the complex domain, where the synchronization is guaranteed. The proposed method to calculate the allowable delay bound for synchronization is also less conservative as compared to the results from the literature. Furthermore, two designs for distributed state-feedback control are suggested. The precise delay value and the detailed graph topology need not be known for their application;it suffices only to know the upper bound on the delay and the approximate region where the Laplacian eigenvalues lie. Specific improvements over the results existing in the literature are demonstrated by a numerical example, which validates the proposed approaches. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. Industrial facilities such as production and storage halls are a specific environment, which is usually characterized by a large usable area, which is managed in a way that brings together in the given area many functional zones for various purposes. Frequent changes in the management of industrial halls gives a need to change the lighting method. In such a situation, a lighting solution that enables the photometric characteristics of the luminaires to be adapted to variable development of the facility, covering not only the quantitative regulation of the luminous flux, but also the direction of its radiation into the environment, can be a helpful solution. The article presents an innovative concept of a luminaire, which makes it possible to change the light distribution without the need to replace optical elements. Simulation tests were carried out for the developed luminaire in order to check the possibility of obtaining the assumed distribution and shapes of light spots on the working plane. Thanks to the application of this solution in an environment where there is a need for frequent changes in the development of usable space requiring changes in lighting conditions, it is possible to dynamically adjust the characteristics of the installed system to new environmental conditions. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2018.

This paper concerns solvers for time fractional differential equations in Matlab and Octave. The main analysis revolves around a time step size adaptive solver basing on the numerical method called SubIval. The basis of SubIval is explained and formulae for the step size adaptivity are given. The solver is compared with others basing on: fractional linear multistep methods, product integration rules and the Grunwald-Letnikov approximation.
