A new adaptive comb filtering algorithm, capable of tracking the fundamental frequency and amplitudes of different frequency components of a nonstationary harmonic signal embedded in white measurement noise, is proposed. Frequency tracking characteristics of the new scheme are studied analytically, proving (under Gaussian assumptions and optimal tuning) its statistical efficiency for quasi-linear frequency changes. Laboratory tests show that the proposed algorithm can be successfully used for active control of MRI noise.

This paper presents an alternative approach to classical box counting algorithm for fractal dimension estimation. Irrelevant data are eliminated from input sequences of the algorithm and a new fractal dimension, called efficient fractal dimension (EFD), which is based on the remaining sequences is calculated. The discriminating capacity and the time efficiency of EFD are evaluated in comparison with fractal dimension (FD) computed by box counting both theoretically and empirically. The results revealed that EFD is better than FD for texture identification and classification.

In this paper the idea of Policy-based Input Selector, which is a framework of a highly flexible modular software interface was presented. The Policy-based Input Selector allows run-time context-sensitive and self-acting reconfiguration of information inputs in cognitive systems. The proposed solution has great application capability in autonomous and intelligent systems with multiple data inputs, such as - inter alia - vision, Laser Range Finders (LRF) or audio. In this paper, controllability properties of networks of diffusively coupled linear systems are considered through the controllability Gramian. For a class of passive linear systems, it is shown that the controllability Gramian can be decomposed into two parts. The first part is related to the dynamics of the individual systems whereas the second part is dependent only on the interconnection topology, allowing for a clear interpretation and efficient computation of controllability properties for a class of networked systems. Moreover, a relation between symmetries in the interconnection topology and controllability is given. The results are illustrated by an example.

In this paper we study state-space realizations of Linear and Time-Invariant (LTI) systems. Motivated by biochemical reaction networks, Gonçalves and Warnick have recently introduced the notion of a Dynamical Structure Functions (DSF), a particular factorization of the system's transfer function matrix that elucidates the interconnection structure in dependencies between manifest variables. We build onto this work by showing an intrinsic connection between a DSF and certain sparse left coprime factorizations. By establishing this link, we provide an interesting systems theoretic interpretation of sparsity patterns of coprime factors. In particular we show how the sparsity of these coprime factors allows for a given LTI system to be implemented as a network of LTI sub-systems. We examine possible applications in distributed control such as the design of a LTI controller that can be implemented over a network with a pre-specified topology.

The paper presents a method to determine a position of objects in three dimentional coordinates. The proposed method uses a vision-based localization using two low cost cameras. The formulation is derived by using a pin-hole camera principal to project a location of a point in a 2D image into 3D space. The paper presents a new solution to the multivehicle coverage problem. The proposed algorithm guarantees complete coverage and provides collaborative behaviors of vehicles, despite the fact that it does not explicitly exploit any computationally intensive optimization technique. The algorithm can deal with any mission domain, including regions with irregular shapes, multi-connected and disjoint regions. It gives reasonably good solutions even for partially connected multi-vehicle systems. The coverage problem for regions the shape of which change in time regardless the vehicle movement is also solved by the proposed algorithm.

In this paper we describe the possibility for usage of generalized version of one-sided (fuzzy) concept lattices, which represents analytical method from the area of Formal Concept Analysis (FCA), for joining of several simple object-attribute models. The main advantage of the algorithm for (so-called) Generalized One-sided Concept Lattices (GOSCL) is its possibility or ability to work with various attributes types. Sometimes, the analyst needs to join some object-attribute models into one comprehensive structure, he/she is able to do it using generalized FCA approach in two basic ways, which are described within the paper. Both approaches provides isomorphic outputs, but provision of information can be different due to usage of generalized attributes, what leads to benefits like better interpretation and understanding of output models and data.

This paper investigates the performance of a single-phase induction motor (SPIM) drive operated as two-phase motor (TPIM) and controlled basing on fuzzy logic (FL). Because of coupling behavior between fluxes in motor, it is still necessary to advance in controller tuning. The applied control strategy proposed in this paper is the vector control based on fuzzy controllers. The application of this control strategy to the single-phase motor operating as two-phase motor increases its dynamic performance and constitutes a contribution to the study of this machine. Indeed, this type of machine has not yet taken its whole share from various works present until now, compared to the three-phase induction machine. The performances of the proposed control; applied to the single-phase induction motor supplied by voltage source inverter; are investigated by simulations under different operating conditions. The obtained results; compared to the traditional control method based on conventional controllers (CC); show the effectiveness and stronger robustness of the control system.
