Hypoglycemia in Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) refers to a condition where blood glucose (BG) levels drop to abnormally low levels, typically below 70 mg/dL. This can occur when there is an excessive amount of insulin relative to the blood glucose level, leading to an imbalance that can be dangerous and potentially life-threatening if not promptly treated. The availability of large amounts of data from continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), insulin doses, carbohydrate intake, and additional vital signs, together with deep learning (DL) techniques, has revolutionized algorithmic approaches for BG prediction in T1D, achieving superior performance. In our study, we employed a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network architecture to predict hypoglycemia events in patients with T1D. For the training and testing, we utilized the OhioT1DM (2018) dataset. In addition, real-time data collected from an individual patient for the evaluation. This patient utilized the CGM FreeStyle Libre (FSL) system, along with a smartwatch to monitor step count. The LSTM model exhibited performance demonstrating exceptional levels of sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy scores of 97.09%, 94.17%, and 95.63%, respectively, when assessed using the Ohio test dataset. Our research provides strong evidence supporting the system's efficacy in managing hypoglycemia events in individuals diagnosed with T1D. © 2024 IEEE.

Video and image quality improvement using an enhanced optimized dehazing technique

The detrimental effects of atmospheric haze frequently plague outdoor imagery. This phenomenon arises from the scattering of light by minute particles within the ambient environment surrounding the scene to be imaged. Haze engenders an overall whitening of the image, leading to diminished contrast. To address these issues and enhance the quality of hazy images and videos, an enhanced dehazing technique is proposed. The proposed technique includes image enhancement before the optimal dehazing process. The enhancement stage entails the implementation of both homomorphic processing and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE), serving to control the image dynamic range, while concurrently heightening the image contrast. The culminating stage encompasses an optimized dehazing technique, adept at expunging haze-induced artifacts from images. The homomorphic processing and CLAHE, applied in the pre-processing step, establish a foundation for the subsequent dehazing procedure. This proposed methodology is systematically applied to a gamut of visual outputs, including visible videos, Near-Infrared (NIR) frames, and authentic hazy images. Comparative evaluations of the proposed technique, homomorphic-processing-based enhanced dehazing, and standalone dehazing techniques is undertaken on different video types encompassing five frames. It is evident that the proposed technique, synergizing the homomorphic processing, CLAHE, and dehazing, outperforms alternative strategies. Furthermore, the proposed technique is subjected to a comparative study with various existing dehazing techniques over real hazy images. The assessment depends on Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), correlation, and entropy metrics. The results underscore the efficacy of the proposed technique, particularly in terms of spectral entropy enhancement of dehazed frames. For both visible and NIR frames, the percentages of enhancement by the proposed technique are 17.66% and 118.48%, respectively. ©

Grid-Interactive Novel Resilient Control of Solar PVWind-Battery Storage Microgrid Under Distorted and Unbalanced Grid Voltages

Integrating solar photovoltaic (PV), wind, and battery storage (BS) systems into the grid introduces significant power quality (PQ) challenges. In particular, the intermittent nature of solar PV and wind energy systems (WES), combined with nonlinear loads, can lead to grid instability. As a result, maintaining a reliable and high-quality power supply to consumers becomes a substantial challenge. This article presents two novel solutions to address these challenges: the anti-windup mixed-order generalized integrator (AWMOGI) and the adaptive delay operation period filter (ADOPF). The AWMOGI effectively extracts fundamental components from distorted utility grid voltages, minimizing DC offset and reducing steady-state oscillations. Meanwhile, the ADOPF swiftly captures positive sequence voltage components by introducing a two-sampling-interval delay in the d-q coordinate system. The hierarchical-loop controller parameters are optimized using a customized Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO) algorithm, which enhances error reduction and facilitates rapid establishment of reference values for DC-link voltage loop control. An adaptive dynamic power management scheme also enables the microgrid (MG) to manage surplus power from MG sources, reducing stress on the BS and ensuring DC-link voltage stability. The experimental results demonstrate significant improvements in handling utility grid abnormalities, dynamic loads, and intermittent microgrid source operation. The experimental results show a zero DC-off set and steady-state errors, a fast computational time of 35e-5s, and the THD of grid currents of 3.16%, which complies with the IEEE 519 standards. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Due to the importance security of sensitive speech and audio signals such as the countries president’s call phone, this research work presents an efficient audio cryptosystem. Audio speech communications play main and essential role in the human daily life, covering many important fields ranging from simple personal private information up to top secret, sensitive and critical information. It is difficult to prevent the eavesdropping by unauthorized person especially 1-D audio scrambling methods, it is built by simple algorithms and has low security level. So, there is a dire need for enhancing audio cryptosystem to be more secure against different types of attacks. In this work, the enhanced audio cryptosystem is proposed, the first approach enhances multiple key audio cryptosystem utilizing the chaotic baker map through enhancing the confusion level for both encryption/decryption algorithms employing time and transform domains. Simulation experiments revealed that the proposed boosted audio cryptosystem on time and transform domains is secure and robust against different types of attacks. The boosted multiple key based audio crypto-system is performed by increasing confusion and enlarging the secret-key space. Results of the simulation experiments revealed that the proposed multiple secret key-enhanced confusion audio cryptosystem is secure and robust with respect to different types of attacks. Moreover, results for transform domains show better results than results for time domain for the three proposed boosted audio cryptosystem. Also, the third proposed audio cryptosystem DWT-based shows the best results among all other proposed audio cryptosystem. We propose to perform an image-based framework for electrical energy meter *** aim is to extract the image region that depicts the digits and then recognize them to record the consumed *** the readings of serial numbers and energy meter units,an automatic billing system using the Internet of Things and a graphical user interface is deployable in a real-time ***,such region extraction and character recognition become challenging due to image variations caused by several factors such as partial occlusion due to dust on the meter display,orientation and scale variations caused by camera positioning,and non-uniform illumination caused by *** this end,our work evaluates and compares the stateof-the art deep learning algorithm You Only Look Once(YOLO)along with traditional handcrafted features for text extraction and *** image dataset contains 10,000 images of electrical energymeters and is further expanded by data augmentation such as in-plane rotation and scaling tomake the deep learning algorithms robust to these image *** training and evaluation,the image dataset is annotated to produce the ground truth of all the ***,YOLO achieves superior performance over the traditional handcrafted features with an average recognition rate of 98%for all the *** proves to be robust against the mentioned image variations compared with the traditional handcrafted *** proposed method can be highly instrumental in reducing the time and effort involved in the currentmeter reading,where workers visit door to door,take images ofmeters and manually extract readings from these images.

With recent advances in technology protecting sensitive healthcare data is challenging. Particularly, one of the most serious issues with medical information security is protecting of medical content, such as the privacy of patients. As medical information becomes more widely available, security measures must be established to protect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Image steganography was recently proposed as an extra data protection mechanism for medical records. This paper describes a data-hiding approach for DICOM medical pictures. To ensure secrecy, we use Adversarial Neural Cryptography with SHA-256 (ANC-SHA-256) to encrypt and conceal the RGB patient picture within the medical image's Region of Non-Interest (RONI). To ensure anonymity, we use ANC-SHA-256 to encrypt the RGB patient image before embedding. We employ a secure hash method with 256bit (SHA-256) to produce a digital signature from the information linked to the DICOM file to validate the authenticity and integrity of medical pictures. Many tests were conducted to assess visual quality using diverse medical datasets, including MRI, CT, X-ray, and ultrasound cover pictures. The LFW dataset was chosen as a patient hidden picture. The proposed method performs well in visual quality measures including the PSNR average of 67.55, the NCC average of 0.9959, the SSIM average of 0.9887, the UQI average of 0.9859, and the APE average of 3.83. It outperforms the most current techniques in these visual quality measures (PSNR, MSE, and SSIM) across six medical assessment categories. Furthermore, the proposed method offers great visual quality while being resilient to physical adjustments, histogram analysis, and other geometrical threats such as cropping, rotation, and scaling. Finally, it is particularly efficient in telemedicine applications with high achieving security with a ratio of 99% during remote transmission of Electronic Patient Records (EPR) over the Internet, which safeguards the patien
