A systems re-engineering technique to integrated control and supervision for applications to industrial multi-zone furnaces has been elaborated by using known theories on generalized predictive control and nonlinear programming. This paper presents the derivation of optimizing equations and inequalities. The design is based on the use of general predictive control to provide optimized set-points under the presumption a well designed regulatory control was implemented at the executive level. Digital implementation of control functions are sought within standard computer process control platform for practical engineering and maintenance reasons. Copyright © 2004 IFAC.

This paper presents a new construction method of a new set of polynomial equations leading to the optimal solution of switching angles which minimize the total harmonic distortion (THD) of a three-phase multilevel converter. The number of equations obtained by this method is lower compared to previous methods. It is possible to solve the problem more simply. This method is based on analytical solution of the PWM problem in single-phase connection which is very fast and efficient and gives the conjunction between both problems. © 2007 EUCA.

Robots are complex mechatronics systems where several electric drives are employed to control the movement of articulated structures. In industrial environments they must perform tasks with rapidity and accuracy in order to produce goods and services with minimal production time. These procedures require the use of flexible robots which can act in a large workspace, thus subjected to important parameters variations and nonlinear dynamics effects. Natural calamities like earthquake and tsunami wreak havoc on life of so many people and the infrastructure, thus saving people who are trapped in the affected region has been a very difficult task for rescuers. This work aims to develop a system which will ease this task for the rescuers by using behavior based multiple robots that will explore, map, localize, path plan and navigate in an unknown environment. Various incarnations of pre-existing meta-heuristic algorithms are used to develop a cost-effective solution in this work. A random walk exploration is used to explore the entire environment effectively which reduces the computational cost and time. To reduce the complexities of mapping, binary occupancy grid is used for the map layout, which is not as efficient as compared to its counterparts but better, where time is the crucial factor. To identify the efficient path to navigate from source to destination positions in the environment, Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm is used in this paper. The last and the most crucial step of the system is navigation towards the destination. By integrating INS and GPS algorithms, the robot can get an almost perfect algorithm for navigation which is not prone to errors. Autonomous robot exploration, mapping and navigation are achieved by integrating the proposed algorithms to work simultaneously. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithms is analyzed through simulations in Webots virtual simulator environment, and the results are presented. Adapting the proposed exploration technique for swarm of robots is a prospective future research direction of this paper. © 2022 IEEE.

In the building climate control area, the linear model predictive control (LMPC)- nowadays considered a mature technique-benefits from the fact that the resulting optimization task is convex (thus easily and quickly solvable). On the other hand, while nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) using a more detailed nonlinear model of a building takes advantage of its more accurate predictions and the fact that it attacks the optimization task more directly, it requires more involved ways of solving the non-convex optimization problem. In this paper, the gap between LMPC and NMPC is bridged by introducing several variants of linear time-varying model predictive controller (LTVMPC). Making use of linear time-varying model of the controlled building, LTVMPC obtains predictions which are closer to reality than those of linear time invariant model while still keeping the optimization task convex and less computationally demanding than in the case of NMPC. The concept of LTVMPC is verified on a set of numerical experiments performed using a high fidelity model created in a building simulation environment and compared to the previously mentioned alternatives (LMPC and NMPC) looking at both the control performance and the computational requirements. © IFAC.

Identification of the type of combustion-supporting agents (CSAs) by an electronic nose (e-nose) is severely limited due to the absence of untested gas concentration in the e-nose training set. In order to solve this problem, this study designs an e-nose for classifying four CSAs (Diesel, Gasoline, Ethanol and Thinner), and builds cross-concentrations data set. This study uses Gramian Angular Field method that converts one-dimensional time series data to two-dimensional data, and proposes an algorithm named the Multi-Branch Feature Fusion Network (M-BFFNet). This algorithm passes the one-dimensional and two-dimensional data through two different networks and obtains two types of features. First, the algorithm can strength the one-dimensional raw data, integrate the advantages of different networks, and fuse the characteristics of different networks. Second, it can learn the characteristics of volatile gas with specific concentrations to identify the unknown concentrations. Last, a feature fusion module is designed to improve the algorithm ability of learning odor fingerprint. In order to verify the superiority of the algorithm, this study tests the recognition performance of the e-nose based systems and compares the proposed M-BFFNet with traditional algorithms. The results show that the proposed M-BFFNet improves the identification accuracy compared to other algorithms. According to the analysis of this work, the M-BFFNet can be used to identify CSAs with unknown concentrations. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

Decomposition by Approximation with Pulse Waves Allowing Further Research on Sources of Voltage Fluctuations

Voltage fluctuations are common disturbances in power grids. Initially, it is necessary to selectively identify individual sources of voltage fluctuations to take actions to minimize the effects of voltage fluctuations. Selective identification of disturbing loads is possible by using a signal chain consisting of demodulation, decomposition, and assessment of the propagation of component signals. The accuracy of such an approach is closely related to the applied decomposition method. The paper presents a new method for decomposition by approximation with pulse waves. The proposed method allows for an correct identification of selected parameters, that is, the frequency of changes in the operating state of individual sources of voltage fluctuations and the amplitude of voltage changes caused by them. The article presents results from numerical simulation studies and laboratory experimental studies, based on which the estimation errors of the indicated parameters were determined by the proposed decomposition method and other empirical decomposition methods available in the literature. The real states that occur in power grids were recreated in the research. The metrological interpretation of the results obtained from the numerical simulation and experimental research is discussed. © 2023, CC BY.
