In order to solve the scheduling problems of Re-entrant Hybrid Flowshop (RHFS), this paper investigates the mathematical programming model of RHFS, and proposes the wolf pack based algorithm (WPA) as a global optimization method. Multi-Sticking Crape Masking procedure scheduling problems in painting workshop of a bus manufacturing enterprise are of typical features of RHFS. We regard it as an application objective of the proposed algorithm, applying WPA and multiple evolutionary algorithms to solve the problems. The results show that the algorithm can solve re-entrant scheduling problems of hybrid flowshop more effectively compared with other conventional methods. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Li-ion batteries are widely used in EV applications and are imposed to several aging effects during their lifetime. Since battery health cannot be measured directly, information about its health can be obtained by iteratively re-estimating the parameters of the model describing its dynamical behavior. The optimal design of experiments is investigated in this paper. The proposed method applies families of input signals (PRBS current and constant current-constant voltage (CC-CV) signals) to the batteries to estimate the key aging factors. Simulation experiments have been used to analyze the statistical properties of the estimators as a function of the design parameters of the input signal families. The results show that the CC-CV charging-discharging cycle has the possibility to gain the most information out of the battery model parameter estimation. © 2018

This paper presents a novel oversampling technique that addresses highly imbalanced benchmark and electroencephalogram (EEG) data distributions. Presently, conventional machine learning technologies do not adequately address imbalanced data with an anomalous class distribution and underrepresented data. To balance the class distributions, an adaptive subspace self-organizing map (ASSOM) that combines a local mapping scheme and the globally competitive rule is proposed to artificially generate synthetic samples that focus on minority class samples and its application in EEG. The ASSOM is configured with feature-invariant characteristics, including translation, scaling, and rotation, and it retains the independence of the basis vectors in each module. Specifically, basis vectors that are generated via each ASSOM module can avoid generating repeated representative features that only increase the computational load. Several benchmark experimental results demonstrate that the proposed ASSOM method incorporating a supervised learning approach could be superior to other existing oversampling techniques, and two EEG applications present the improvement of classification accuracy using the proposed ASSOM method. This article presents a novel scheduling approach to minimise the energy consumption of an industrial furnace during its idle periods. Production tasks characterised by release times and deadlines are scheduled in the given order such that the idle energy consumption of the furnace is minimised. Contrary to the existing approaches, which consider just a finite number of standby modes and time constants to switch between them, our approach provides an efficient combination of both optimal scheduling and optimal control of continuous-time dynamical systems described by ordinary differential equations. Specifically, we consider the temperature control of a single furnace. The furnace dynamics during the idle periods is characterised by the continuous-time bilinear system model, which is analysed using Pontryagin's minimum principle. This way, the scheduling algorithm can exploit the full knowledge of the furnace dynamics encapsulated in the idle energy function. The crucial property shown here is the concavity of the idle energy function, which enables the respective scheduling problem to be solved in polynomial time. Our approach is thoroughly tested using numerical simulations of a real industrial electric furnace model showing that more energy can be saved compared with existing approaches based on the finite number of modes. RF chain circuits play a major role in digital receiver architectures, allowing passband communication signals to be processed in baseband. When operating at high frequencies, these circuits tend to be costly. This increased cost imposes a major limitation on future multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication technologies. A common approach to mitigate the increased cost is to utilize hybrid architectures, in which the received signal is combined in analog into a lower dimension, thus reducing the number of RF chains. In this work we present a hardware prototype implementing analog combining for RF chain reduction. The prototype consists of a specially designed configurable combining board as well as a dedicated experimental setup. Our hardware prototype allows to evaluate the effect of analog combining in MIMO systems using actual communication signals. The experimental study, which focuses on channel estimation accuracy in MIMO channels, demonstrates that using the proposed prototype, the achievable channel estimation performance is within a small gap in a statistical sense from that obtained using a costly receiver in which each antenna is connected to a dedicated RF chain. Furthermore, in the considered scenarios, this gap becomes negligible when the reduction rate, i.e., the ratio of the number of RF chains to the number of antennas, is above 62.5%. The proposed tuning method for integrating processes, which is based on Magnitude optimum criterion, has been extended to PID types of controllers. The method requires either the process transfer function (in frequency-domain) or the measurement of process steady-state change (in time-domain). The PID controller parameters are calculated analytically by solving fourth-order polynomial. By changing reference-weighting parameter b, the user can favour tracking (higher b) or control performance (lower b). The proposed method has been tested on several process models (lower-order with delay, higher order with delay, and a phase non-minimum process) and the closed-loop responses were relatively fast and non-oscillatory. The comparison with other tuning method based on process step-response data results in favourable tracking and control performance. © 2018

A MNSM( mirror neuron system mechanism)-based controller is developed to present the swimming rhythm of a snake-like robot in Cartesian space. From engineering viewpoint,the proposed controller is composed of a neuron for rhythm angle and two neurons for motion knowledge in XY plane. The given knowledge is a rhythm curve for swimming motion of a snake-like robot. Experimental results show that the proposed controller can present the knowledge of swimming rhythm,which represents the corresponding control law to drive the snake-like robot to swim with different speeds and turning motion. This work provides a novel method to present the knowledge for swimming motion of snake-like robots.

Temporal-spatial cross-correlation analysis of non-stationary near-surface wind speed time series

Temporal-spatial cross-correlation analysis of non-stationary wind speed time series plays a crucial role in wind field reconstruction as well as in wind pattern ***,the near-surface wind speed time series recorded at different locations are studied using the detrended fluctuation analysis(DFA),and the corresponding scaling exponents are larger than *** indicates that all these wind speed time series have non-stationary ***,concerning this special feature( i.e.,non-stationarity)of wind signals,a cross-correlation analysis method,namely detrended cross-correlation analysis(DCCA) coefficient,is employed to evaluate the temporal-spatial cross-correlations between non-stationary time series of different anemometer ***,experiments on ten wind speed data synchronously collected by the ten anemometers with equidistant arrangement illustrate that the method of DCCA cross-correlation coefficient can accurately analyze full-scale temporal-spatial cross-correlation between non-stationary time series and also can easily identify the seasonal component,while three traditional cross-correlation techniques(i.e.,Pearson coefficient,cross-correlation function,and DCCA method) cannot give us these information directly.

The performance of active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) algorithms can be limited in practice by high-frequency measurement noise. In this work, this problem is addressed by transforming the high-gain extended state observer (ESO), which is the inherent element of ADRC, into a new cascade observer structure. Set of experiments, performed on a DC-DC buck power converter system, show that the new cascade ESO design, compared to the conventional approach, effectively suppresses the detrimental effect of sensor noise over-amplification while increasing the estimation/control performance. The proposed design is also analyzed with a low-pass filter at the converter output, which is a common technique for reducing measurement noise in industrial applications.
