Optimal pulse width modulation (PWM) problem is an established method of generating PWM waveforms with low baseband distortion. In this paper we focused on computation of optimal switching angles of a odd PWM waveform for generating general odd symmetric waveforms. We introduce an exact and fast algorithm with the complexity of only O(n log2 n) arithmetic operations. This algorithm is based on transformation of appropriate trigonometric equations for each harmonics to a polynomial system of equations that is transferred to a special system of sum of powers. The solution of this system is carried out by modification of Newton's identity via Padéapproximation and orthogonal polynomials theory and property of symmetric polynomials. Finally, the optimal switching sequence is obtained by computing the zeros of two orthogonal polynomials in one variable. © 2008 IEEE.

In this paper we present a novel real time algorithm to sequentially solve a class of multi-view geometry problems. The triangulation problem is considered as study case. The problem concerns with the estimation of 3D point coordinates given its images as well as the matrices of the concern cameras used in the imaging process. The algorithm has direct application to real time systems like virtual reality, visual SLAM, and visual servoing. Application to visual servoing is considered in detail. Experiments have been carried out for the general triangulation problem as well as the application to visual servoing.

In the previous work, a readout approach for the Hamiltonian Path Problem (HPP) in DNA computing, based on the real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was proposed. Based on this approach, real-time amplification was performed with TaqMan probes, and the TaqMan detection mechanism was exploited for the design and development of the readout approach. The readout approach consists of two steps: real-time amplification in vitro using TaqMan-based real-time PCR followed by information processing in silico to assess the results of real-time amplification, which in turn, enables extraction of the Hamiltonian path. However, the previous method used manual classification of two different output reactions of real-time PCR In this paper, the Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering algorithm is used to automatically identify two different reactions in real-time PCR We show that the FCM clustering technique can be implemented for clustering the output results of the DNA computing readout method based on the LightCycler System. © 2008 SICE.

The categorization problem in object recognition is the assignment of semantic categories to objects or parts of objects. Here, the best categorization performance provide mammalian brain functions that motivate to partly mimic such a formation for the application to machine learning and automation. Curiosity and experimental willingness support human recognizing and detecting in relation to still unknown objects. In order to learn an understanding of the topology of such objects, objects are observed from a series of different viewpoints. This results in a collection of object views that afterward can be used by cognitive processes. State-of-the-art systems provide learning structures that are subsequently utilized for object recognition and tracking tasks. However, most of these systems aim at very specific goals in restricted domains, and therefore, it remains no room for learning and understanding of object structures. In the work of this paper, we propose a new robot vision model for neural categorization. This is close to our initial idea of mimicking mammalian brain functions for robot vision. We use the combinatorial solution of our cognitive framework with an embedding of a recently presented stochastic n-gram model, supported by a three-dimensional grammar model on a discrete three-dimensional lattice. Furthermore, we use ant colony optimization heuristics for collecting the transition probabilities of the n-gram model. The proposed solution is exemplified by applying the method to several object view series of 69 polytopes generated out of the five platonic solids by truncation; thus, generating images from 32 viewpoints each, yields an object set of 2208 images. These set is further expanded to four sets perturbed by Gaussian-noise with varying sigma = {0, 0.1, 0.5, 1, 2}. Finally, we show results for selected objects and conclude with an outlook on further work.

The main goal of this paper is to propose application of modern multidimensional systems identification algorithms of the subspace identification theory in the context of fMRI data analysis. The methods originated in 1990s in the field of process control and identification and yield robust linear model parameter estimates for systems with many inputs, outputs and states. Our ultimate goal is to establish an alternative to the DCM analysis procedure which would eliminate its main drawbacks, namely the need to pre-define the models structure. The paper discusses results based on simulated data provided by the DCM simulator in the SPM toolbox. Several scenarios are presented, with varying amount of noise and number of data samples.

A model of the switched fuzzy systems whose subsystems are fuzzy systems is presented first. Then the problem of state feedback robust H8 control of this class of systems is solved using switching technique and single Lyapunov function. A switching strategy of the switched fuzzy system with continuous controlled input is developed. The main condition is given in form of convex combination linear matrix inequalities, which are solvable using LMI Toolbox. The elaborated illustrative but real-world example and the respective simulation experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2008 IEEE.

Repetitive processes propagate information propagation in two independent directions and are of both systems theoretic and applications interest. They cannot be controlled by direct extension of existing techniques from either standard (termed 1D here) or (often) 2D systems theory. In this paper we propose, motivated by critical features in the dynamics of some examples a model which has non-causal elements and then develop new results on the stability and control of examples which it represents.
