An evolutionary computation - based design/optimisation approach using the Cartesian Genetic Programming is proposed for non-linear continuous-time process control. It is a simplification of a more general Genetic Programming - based design, which is powerful, but more computationally demanding. The approach is able to produce effective and non-intuitive controllers in the form of a network of interconnected elementary building blocks, which minimize the defined performance index. Each building block performs mathematic operations between its inputs, next it contains gain and an elementary dynamic part as integrator, derivative or unity gain. The proposed design method is demonstrated on water turbine control design, and the results are compared with the genetic algorithm-based PID controller design. © IFAC.

This paper presents part of material concerning decentralized control, taught in graduate course control of Complex Systems. We present some basic aspects of decentralized control design concerning stability and performance and illustrate them on a case study: virtual model of a quadruple tank process. control structure selection based on performance relative gain array (PRGA, Hovd, Skogestad, 1992) is used and its ability to evaluate the achievable performance is discussed. Robust stability condition for decentralized control is considered, which provides the upper level on subsystems, thus limiting the performance. © 2012 IFAC.

The primary goal of the paper is to demonstrate one way of online realization of experiments with hard real-time control. We describe a new customized solution based on Linux RTAI, RTAI-XML server, Comedi and jRTAILab. This platform was used to support student experiments on Humusoft CE152 Magnetic Levitation plant in already developed on-line laboratory portal based on Scilab environment. © 2012 IEEE.

Swarm intelligent algorithm for re-entrant hybrid flow shop scheduling problems

In order to solve re-entrant hybrid flowshop (RHFS) scheduling problems and establish simulations and processing models, this paper uses wolf pack algorithm (WPA) as global optimisation. For local assignment, it takes minimum remaining time rule. Scouting behaviours of wolf are changed in former optimisation by means of Levy flight, extending searching ranges and increasing rapidity of convergence. When it comes to local extremum of WPA, dynamic regenerating individuals with high similarity adds diversity. Hamming distance is used to judge individual similarity for increased quality of individuals, enhanced search performance of the algorithm in solution space and promoted evolutionary vitality. A painting workshop in a bus manufacture enterprise owns typical features of re-entrant hybrid flowshop. Regarding it as the algorithm applied target, this paper focuses on resolving this problem with dynamic wolf pack algorithm based on levy flight (LDWPA). Results show that LDWPA can solve re-entrant hybrid flowshop scheduling problems effectively. Copyright © 2019 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

In this tutorial some basic linear algebra problems: basis change and projection, are discussed together with examples of their applications in signal and image processing. In typical linear algebra university courses perpendicular projections are only discussed. However, in image processing, for defining various color spaces, we need non-perpendicular projections. The paper presents an analysis of the realization of digital signal processing algorithms with the use of STM32F4 microcontrollers. Various programming techniques have been demonstrated focusing on the implementation of FIR filters and FFT calculations based on Cortex Microcontroller Software Interface Standard. During the tests we use STM32F407 Discovery module with WM5102 Wolfson Audio Card. The speed of algorithms and the accuracy of calculations were checked. The quality of digital filters were tested using LMS adaptive filter or Analog Discovery 2 device. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The article deals with the mechanical machinery whose task is to juggle using the servo drive system. The ball juggler is an open loop system which uses attractive algorithms with no feedback information about the actual ball position. The position control of juggling arms is the basis of the movement system which works on mathematical model for throwing ball and catching with juggling arms. Our work in this paper is focused on the description of the system and on the control implementation for continuous juggling. © 2011 IEEE.

In this article, we are introducing the method of the localization of the deep-ocean pipe end-point. The set of various sensors located along the pipe are used for measuring the data describing the shape of the pipe. Several variants of calculation algorithm have been developed for the processing the gathered information. The simulation results describing the error characteristics of the input and output variables are included as well. The categorization problem in object recognition is the assignment of semantic categories to objects or parts of objects. Here, the best categorization performance provide mammalian brain functions that motivate to partly mimic such a formation for the application to machine learning and automation. Curiosity and experimental willingness support human recognizing and detecting in relation to still unknown objects. In order to learn an understanding of the topology of such objects, objects are observed from a series of different viewpoints. This results in a collection of object views that afterward can be used by cognitive processes. State-of-the-art systems provide learning structures that are subsequently utilized for object recognition and tracking tasks. However, most of these systems aim at very specific goals in restricted domains, and therefore, it remains no room for learning and understanding of object structures. In the work of this paper, we propose a new robot vision model for neural categorization. This is close to our initial idea of mimicking mammalian brain functions for robot vision. We use the combinatorial solution of our cognitive framework with an embedding of a recently presented stochastic n-gram model, supported by a three-dimensional grammar model on a discrete three-dimensional lattice. Furthermore, we use ant colony optimization heuristics for collecting the transition probabilities of the n-gram model. The proposed solution is exemplified by applying the method to several object view series of 69 polytopes generated out of the five platonic solids by truncation;thus, generating images from 32 viewpoints each, yields an object set of 2208 images. These set is further expanded to four sets perturbed by Gaussian-noise with varying σ = {0, 0.1, 0.5, 1, 2}. Finally, we show results for selected objects and conclude with an outlook on further work. © 2008 IEEE.

PROFIBUS is a very complex protocol created in 3 layers of the reference communication model. The paper shows experimental way to explain the behaviour of devices on bus under normal traffic and diagnostic events. The paper deals with two communication experiments performed on the same devices on the bus. For measurements on PROFIBUS DP physical layer the professional tester was used. It provides an overview of the signal conditions on the bus and detects the signal quality of each device on the bus. A universal tool for PROFIBUS protocol analysis can perform online bus traffic monitoring. It is able to detect and analyse the PROFIBUS frames for education and diagnosis purposes. © 2012 IFAC.
