This paper mainly discusses a generic scheme for on-line adaptive critic design for nonlinear system based on neural dynamic programming (NDP), more exactly, an improved action-depended dual heuristic dynamic programming (ADDHP) method. The principal merit of the proposed method is to avoid the model neural network which predicts the state of next time step, and only use current and previous states in the method, as makes the algorithm more suitable for real-time or online application for process control. In this paper, convergence proof of the method will also be given to guarantee the control to reach the optimal. At last, simulation result verifies the performance. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.

The global exponential synchronization of complex delayed dynamical networks possessing general topology is investigated in this contribution. The network model considered can represent both the directed and undirected weighted networks. Novel delay-dependent linear controllers are designed via Lyapunov stability theory and appropriate property of the coupling matrix. It is shown that the controlled network is globally exponentially synchronized with a given convergence rate. Two examples of typical dynamical networks with coupling delays of this class, one possesses directed and the other with undirected coupling topology, both having a Lorenz system at each node, have been used to demonstrate and verify the novel control design proposed.

In this paper a method to estimate the initial rotor position of the switched reluctance motor (SRM) at the stand still condition is proposed. The proposed method can be implemented by the simple microcontroller based system, and it is not necessary to know the magnetization curves. The impulse gate drive signal is applied and the winding current is detected and its approximate value is used for calculating the rotor position. The compensation method to reduce the estimation error thorough one cycle is also mentioned. The proposed method is implemented with the 6-stator-pole and 4- rotor-pole, 1.5 kW 3-phase switched reluctance motor.

This paper studies the fuzzy H infin filter design problem for signal estimation of nonlinear discrete-time systems with multiple time delays and unknown bounded disturbances. First, the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model is used to represent the state-space model of nonlinear discrete-time systems with time delays. Next, we design a stable fuzzy H infin filter based on the T-S fuzzy model, which guarantees asymptotic stability and a prescribed H infin index for the filtering error system, irrespective of the time delays and uncertain disturbances. A sufficient condition for the existence of such a filter is established by using the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. The proposed LMI problem can be efficiently solved with global convergence guarantee using convex optimization techniques such as the interior point algorithm. Simulation examples are provided to illustrate the design procedure of the present method.

A class of uncertain time-varying complex dynamical networks is studied in this paper and a model introduced. On the grounds of that model then the locally and globally decentralized synchronization of these networks are thoroughly investigated. Several network synchronization criteria are deduced. Especially, the assumptions adopted and decentralized control laws designed are considerably simple. An illustrative example along with the respective numerical and computer simulation results is also given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed synchronization control synthesis.

The switched reluctance motor (SRM) and drive system is a candidate in various applications including the home appliance. The simple and low cost system with an adequate performance is also one topic to be developed. A speed sensor directly increases the cost and it directly influences the reliability of the system. This paper proposes a simplified variable speed control system for the SRM without using an encoder. The method is not based on the exact rotor position estimation, only the turn off angle is determined from the simple relation between measured terminal voltage and current. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by the experimental result on the 3 kW 3-phase 6-stator-pole and 4-rotor-pole SRM.

A new robust adaptive control design synthesis, which employs both high-order neural networks and math-analytical results, for a class of complex nonlinear mechatronic systems possessing similarity property has been derived. This approach makes an adequate use of the structural feature of composite similarity systems and neural networks to resolve the representation issue of uncertainty interconnections and subsystem gains by on-line updating the weights. This synthesis does guarantee the real stability in closed-loop but requires skills to obtain larger attraction domains. Mechatronic example of an axis-tray drive system, possessing uncertainties, is used to illustrate the proposed technique. © 2006 IEEE.
