Neuroimaging has emerged over the last few decades as a crucial tool in diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease(AD).Mild cognitive impairment(MCI)is a condition that falls between the spectrum of normal cognitive function and ***,previous studies have mainly used handcrafted features to classify MCI,AD,and normal control(NC)*** paper focuses on using gray matter(GM)scans obtained through magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)for the diagnosis of individuals with MCI,AD,and *** improve classification performance,we developed two transfer learning strategies with data augmentation(i.e.,shear range,rotation,zoom range,channel shift).The first approach is a deep Siamese network(DSN),and the second approach involves using a cross-domain strategy with customized *** performed experiments on the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative(ADNI)dataset to evaluate the performance of our proposed *** experimental results demonstrate superior performance in classifying the three binary classification tasks:NC ***,NC ***,and MCI ***,we achieved a classification accuracy of 97.68%,94.25%,and 92.18%for the three cases,*** study proposes two transfer learning strategies with data augmentation to accurately diagnose MCI,AD,and normal control individuals using GM *** findings provide promising results for future research and clinical applications in the early detection and diagnosis of AD.

Nowadays, there is strong demand for high-bitrate systems that can provide and distribute large bandwidth while assuring minimal error rate and high-quality communication with regards to the implementation of cloud centres, new 6G networks and smart applications. This all leads to continuous dynamic development in the field of xPON networks bringing new solutions for future optical networks. The presented work focuses on NG-PON2 networks, which are represented by Time and Wavelength Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Network (TWDM-PON) (G.989.1) or Super-PON (IEEE P802.3cs). The basis of the introduced topology is in combination of wave and time access through the TWDM-PON network. In our simulation, we were focusing on the utilization of eight wavelengths operating in the C and L band with amplifiers implementation, namely Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) or Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA). Regarding to used amplifier the ODN (Optical Distribution Network) reach of TWDM-PON were studied as well as the bitrate of 10 Gbps per wavelength in both upstream and downstream directions with the help of parameters such as bit error rate (BER), Q-factor. From the simulation results, it is shown that by implementing an EDFA amplifier, a longer range of up to 60 km and a lower BER than that of SOA can be achieved. The proposed TWDM-PON system provides a communication network for urban as well as rural areas with guaranteed high bit rates and range. © 2025 SPIE.

This work deals with the study of implementation possibilities of broadband optical multiplexer/demultiplexer in the form of AWG (Arrayed Waveguide Gratings) in TWDM-PON topology (Time and Wavelength Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Network) by norm G.989.1 as a key component of the hybrid network. The functionality possibilities of the TWDM-PON system are observed where the goal of AWG design is to support also wavelengths different from standard wavelengths used for TWDM-PON in C-band (Conventional) ranges from 1530 nm to 1565nm and L-band (Long-wavelength, 1565-1625nm) bands. This should allow for older communication systems (for example EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) given by norm IEEE 802.3ah and GPON (Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network) by norm ITU-T G.984) to be operating concurrently over ODN (optical distribution network) without mutual disturbance with newer xPON communication systems. The network topology operating in this manner makes efficient use of passive infrastructure, including reducing the cost of construction (CAPEx) or operation (OPEx) while creating hybrid types of optical networks. © 2025 SPIE.

In this article, the problem of linear precoding and radar receive beamforming design for joint radar-communication (JRC) systems is studied. A multiple antenna base station (BS) that serves multiple single-antenna user terminals on the downlink is assumed. Furthermore, the BS employs a simultaneous radar function in the form of point-like target detection from the reflected return signals in a signal-dependent interference environment. In this work, we jointly design the JRC linear precoder and the radar receive beamformer, thus aiming to optimize the performance of the radar part while maintaining a desired quality of service (QoS) for the communication one subject to a total transmit power constraint. To that end, we formulate a challenging fractional nonconvex optimization problem via which the optimal precoder and radar receive beamformer are derived. Then, we develop algorithmic solutions based on the majorization-minimization (MM) principle and the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) methodology for the formulated optimization problem. The performance of both the proposed solutions is examined and compared to the one of a system that supports only the radar functionality via numerical results. © 2023 IEEE.

This study proposes a new prairie dog optimization algorithm version called EPDO. This new version aims to address the issues of premature convergence and slow convergence that were observed in the original PDO algorithm. To improve performance, several modifications are introduced in EPDO. First, a dynamic opposite learning strategy is employed to increase the diversity of the population and prevent premature convergence. This strategy helps the algorithm avoid falling into local optima and promotes global optimization. Additionally, the Lévy dynamic random walk technique is utilized in EPDO. This modified Lévy flight with random walk reduces the algorithm’s running time for the test function’s ideal value, accelerating its convergence. The proposed approach is evaluated using 33 benchmark problems from CEC 2017 and compared against seven other comparative techniques: GWO, MFO, ALO, WOA, DA, SCA, and RSA. Numerical results demonstrate that EPDO produces good outcomes and performs well in solving benchmark problems. To further validate the results and assess reliability, the authors employ average rank tests, the measurement of alternatives, and ranking according to the compromise solution (MARCOS) method, as well as a convergence report of EPDO and other algorithms. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the EPDO algorithm is demonstrated by applying it to five design problems. The results indicate that EPDO achieves impressive outcomes and proves its capability to address practical issues. The algorithm performs well in solving benchmark and practical design problems, as supported by the numerical results and validation methods used in the study. © The Author(s) 2024.

The concept of healthy ageing is emerging and becoming a norm to achieve a high quality of life, reducing healthcare costs and promoting longevity. Rapid growth in global population and urbanisation requires substantial efforts to ensure healthy and supportive environments to improve the quality of life, closely aligned with the principles of healthy ageing. Access to fundamental resources which include quality healthcare services, clean air, green and blue spaces plays a pivotal role in achieving this goal. Air quality, in particular, is a critical factor in achieving healthy ageing targets. However, it necessitates a global effort to develop and implement policies aimed at reducing air pollution, which has severe implications for human health including cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative diseases, while promoting healthier environments such as high quality green and blue spaces for all age groups. Such actions inevitably depend on the current status of air pollution and better predictive models to mitigate the harmful impact of emissions on planetary health and public health. In this work, we proposed a hybrid model referred as AirVCQnet, which combines the variational mode decomposition (VMD) method with a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a quantum long short-term memory (QLSTM) network for the prediction of air pollutants. The performance of the proposed model is analysed on five key pollutants including fine Particulate Matter PM2.5, Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Ozone (O3), PM10, and Sulphur Dioxide (SO2), sourced from air quality monitoring station in Northern Ireland, UK. The effectiveness of the proposed model is evaluated by comparing its performance with its equivalent classical counterpart using root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and R-squared (R2). In this paper, the correctness of the algebraic determination of the coordinate of the third focus of the Cartesian oval is examined and analysed. This analysis is necessary because the process includes solving systems with a large number of multivariate polynomial equations using the computer algebra system Maple. Research has demonstrated the effectiveness of metaheuristic algorithms in addressing optimization challenges involving multi-objectives. These algorithms excel in generating a range of solutions that not only approach the Pareto front but are also evenly distributed. Multi-objective algorithms are effective for problems with two or three objectives. However, their efficiency diminishes in scenarios with many objectives, as the diversity selection and convergence pressure become less effective. Balancing convergence and diversity in multi-objective optimization pose a significant challenge. In response, this study introduces a novel many-objective multi-verse optimizer algorithm named MaOMVO for addressing many-objective problems. It integrates reference point and niche preserve to improve convergence and diversity and employs an innovative information feedback mechanism technique for population renewal. The superiority of the MaOMVO algorithm is evident in tests with MaF problems having 5, 8 and 15 objectives, as well as five real-world problems (RWMaOP1—RWMaOP5). It outperforms four leading algorithms Many-objective moth flame optimization, many-objective particle swarm optimization, non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-III and reference vector guided evolutionary algorithm in terms of generational distance by 70%, inverted generational distance by 52%, spacing by 46.66%, spread by 55.55%, hypervolume by 52% and running time by 52% with concave, convex and mixed pareto fronts, confirming its robustness in diverse optimization scenarios. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2024.
