This paper presents a case study of a rotor fault occurring in the rotor generator of a steam power plant located in Lontar, Banten Province, Indonesia. The steam power plant has 3 x 315 MV capacity and uses hydrogen in the cooling system. The issue arising during the operation was caused by heat transfer exceeding the normal level. The grounding of the rotor occurred through rising vibration and temperature, tripping the generator unit. During repairs, the axial spacer was replaced with a new model, where it is longer than the original, adding a bar spacer at a previously unavailable position and creating a cooling track profile. This is a case study on the replacement of the axial spacer model aimed at preventing the expansion of the winding, so as not to touch with each other, through the installation of a longer axial spacer and the addition of the spacer bar, and lastly adding the track profile to the cooling hydrogen gas flow thereby maximizing the cooling process from the end winding rotor generator. Heat transfer is an analysed parameter related to the model change of the axial spacer. The addition of a track cooling gas flow has been able to maximize the heat transfer process, which is simulated in this paper. The performance of the rotor generator increased through several parameters after the replacement of the axial spacer model. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Krasovskii and Shifted Passivity Based Output Consensus

Motivated by current sharing in power networks, we consider a class of output consensus (also called agreement) problems for nonlinear systems, where the consensus value is determined by external disturbances, e.g., power demand. This output consensus problem is solved by a simple distributed output feedback controller if a system is either Krasovskii or shifted passive, which is the only essential requirement. Bioimpedance is a commonly used method for various conditions monitoring. In this paper, the authors carried out some research where they implemented various smoothing filters to enable identification of the bioimpedance spectroscopy parameters. The proposed filtering methods may also be used for application on embedded systems, which have smaller computing power but have become recently very popular. The obtained results with the implementation of smoothing filters were promising, however, some of the obtained results were unsatisfactory. This work also contains a brief introduction to bioimpedance spectroscopy and smoothing filters.

A Dynamic Programming Framework for Optimal Planning of Redundant Robots Along Prescribed Paths With Kineto-Dynamic Constraints

Offline optimal planning of trajectories for redundant robots along prescribed task space paths is usually broken down into two consecutive processes: first, the task space path is inverted to obtain a joint space path, then, the latter is parametrized with a time law. If the two processes are separated, they cannot optimize the same objective function, ultimately providing sub-optimal results. In this paper, a unified approach is presented where dynamic programming is the underlying optimization technique. Its flexibility allows accommodating arbitrary constraints and objective functions, thus providing a generic framework for optimal planning of real systems. To demonstrate its applicability to a real world scenario, the framework is instantiated for time-optimality on Franka Emika's Panda robot. The well-known issues associated with the execution of non-smooth trajectories on a real controller are partially addressed at planning level, through the enforcement of constraints, and partially through post-processing of the optimal solution. The experiments show that the proposed framework is able to effectively exploit kinematic redundancy to optimize the performance index defined at planning level and generate feasible trajectories that can be executed on real hardware with satisfactory results. Note to Practitioners-The common planning algorithms which consolidated over the years for generating trajectories for non-redundant robots are not adequate to fully exploit the more advanced capabilities offered by redundant robots. This is especially true in performance-demanding tasks, as for robots employed on assembly lines in manufacturing industries, repeatedly performing the same activity. Once the assembly line engineer has defined the tool path in the task space, our planning algorithm unifies inverse kinematics and time parametrization so as to bring the manipulator at its physical limits to achieve specific efficiency goals, being execution time the most typical

Trend and Priority Change of Climate Change Mitigation Technology in the Global Mining Sector

The purpose of this work is to explore the most relevant driving factors for innovation in the mining, mineral processing and metals sectors related to climate change mitigation technology. In order to do so, we use a decomposition analysis based on the logarithmic mean Divisia index to analyze the trends in patent families related to climate change mitigation technology filled by organizations or individuals in the mining, mineral processing and metals sectors. collected from the Orbis IP patent database between 2001 and 2016. We observed that three different factors, namely the PRIORITY of climate change mitigation technology;the overall relevance of the MINING, mineral processing and metals sector;and the SCALE of patent families have a different impact in different countries and country groups, depending on whether the mining and minerals sector play a strong role in their economy or whether they are a developed or developing country. Two shortcomings of this work are: we were not able to address the fact that some authors question the use of patent applications as a proxy for investments in R&D, and we did not analyze the shifts in innovation patterns from companies. Nonetheless, our findings encourage policy recommendations reported by other authors, especially with regards to the economic development of poorer countries, technology transfer and coordination between innovation stakeholders. © 2021, The Authors. Highway Traffic control via Smart e-Mobility - Part I: Theory

—In this paper, we study how to alleviate highway traffic congestion by encouraging plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles to stop at a charging station around peak congestion times. Specifically, we design a pricing policy to make the charging price dynamic and dependent on the traffic congestion, predicted via the cell transmission model, and the availability of charging spots. Furthermore, we develop a novel framework to model how this policy affects the drivers’ decisions by formulating a mixed-integer potential game. Technically, we introduce the concept of "road-to-station" (r2s) and "station-to-road" (s2r) flows, and show that the selfish actions of the drivers converge to charging schedules that are individually optimal in the sense of Nash. In the second part of this work, submitted as a separate paper (Part II: Case Study), we validate the proposed strategy on a simulated highway stretch between The Hague and Rotterdam, in The Netherlands. Highway Traffic control via Smart e-Mobility – Part II: Dutch A13 Case Study

In this paper, we study how to alleviate highway traffic congestions by encouraging plug-in electric and hybrid vehicles to stop at charging stations around peak congestion times. Specifically, we focus on a case study and simulate the adoption of a dynamic charging price depending on the traffic congestion. We use real traffic data of the A13 highway stretch between The Hague and Rotterdam, in The Netherlands, to identify the Cell Transmission Model. Then, we apply the algorithm proposed in [1](Part I: Theory) to different scenarios, validating the theoretical results and showing the benefits of our strategy in terms of traffic congestion alleviation. Finally, we carry out a sensitivity analysis of the proposed algorithm and discuss how to optimize its performance. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The history of the use of mines dates back almost two centuries. The geography of their use and the associated social harm have made them, without exaggeration, a global problem. At the same time, searches were underway for safe methods of their neutralization using various technical means. In so doing, until now, none of the existing methods provides a 100% guarantee of cleaning the territory, which determines the purpose of finding innovative methods and the possibility of combining them with existing ones. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are becoming a real modern breakthrough in the field of intellectual achievements. Obtaining optimal results when solving a wide range of different problems, together with the development of composite materials, software, and the latest navigation equipment, make the tasks assigned to them and the expected results more and more difficult. UAVs allow people not to be in life-threatening conditions, to conduct activities beyond their physiological and psychophysiological abilities. The combination of the ability to collect spatial data during flight in various ranges of remote sensing with the possibility of carrying variants of useful equipment opens up prospects for their use in the field of demining territories. Supplementing UAV technologies with modern information systems for processing and analysis of information (expert systems, machine learning, computational intelligence, distributed artificial intelligence, neural networks, etc.), including spatial (GIS), opens up great prospects in the field of humanitarian demining of territories. © 2024, The Authors. This paper presents a novel approach for head tracking in augmented reality (AR) flight simulators using an adaptive fusion of Kalman and particle filters. This fusion dynamically balances the strengths of both algorithms, leveraging Kalman filters for computational efficiency and particle filters for handling non-linearities based on real-time factors such as sensor noise and head movement patterns. Our method demonstrates superior tracking precision and reduced latency, making it particularly effective for immersive pilot training in AR-based flight simulations. While focused on flight simulation, our approach holds high potential for broader applications in other AR and virtual reality (VR) environments where precise, real-time head tracking is crucial. These results provide actionable design guidance for developers optimizing tracking systems in environments that require fast response times and high accuracy. Future extensions of this research could explore the generalization of our approach across diverse AR applications, including human-computer interaction (HCI), medical simulations, and gaming. © 1968-2012 IEEE.

A sliding mode controller design for thermal comfort in buildings

One of the factors determining comfort in buildings is the indoor air temperature of the rooms. A control system, part of the home automation system, should stabilise air temperature to the desired level, despite various disturbances such as the presence of random or occasional sources of heat. Inaccurate models of the dynamics of air temperature changes in buildings prescribe the use of robust control methods, a type of which is the sliding mode controller. This article presents the application of a sliding mode controller (SMC) to home automation systems, designed to control air temperature inside a building. The sliding-mode controller makes use of sliding surfaces, which are defined by the assumed trajectory and the system output. The control law is designed in such a way that the trajectory of the system tends to the sliding surface from any initial point and remains on it after reaching the sliding surface. In this article, a model at air temperature change dynamics inside a building is presented. The modelling approach relies on the lumped-parameter methodology, in which distributed physical properties are represented by lumped parameters (such as thermal capacity or resistance). The model takes into account the loss of heat through conduction and ventilation, as well as internal heat gain. The parameters of the model can be obtained easily from the thermal properties of the construction materials. Theoretical considerations were applied in simulation experiments and the results of these experiments confirm the performance improvement achieved by the proposed solutions. © 2019, Polish Academy of sciences.
