In this work the authors of the hereof paper describe pilot study on implementation of fractional order filtering applied for the purpose of disparities detection in Beta Frequencies. The Beta waves frequency range can be split into three sections, where the information provided by particular section enables more accurate medical diagnosis. Spectral analysis used in this study allowed appropriate isolation of the Beta waves. Implementation of non-integer order filtering in such study is innovative and provided some promising results.

A comparison of nonsmooth, nonconvex, constrained optimization solvers for the design of time-delay compensators

We present a detailed set of performance comparisons of two state-of-the-art solvers for the application of designing time-delay compensators, an important problem in the field of robust control. Formulating such robust control mechanics as constrained optimization problems often involves objective and constraint functions that are both nonconvex and nonsmooth, both of which present significant challenges to many solvers and their end-users hoping to obtain good solutions to these problems. In our particular engineering task, the main difficulty in the optimization arises in a nonsmooth and nonconvex stability constraint, which states that the infinite spectrum of zeros of the so-called shaper should remain in the open left half-plane. To perform our evaluation, we make use β-relative minimization profiles, recently introduced visualization tools that are particularly suited for benchmarking solvers on nonsmooth, nonconvex, constrained optimization problems. Furthermore, we also introduce new visualization tools, called Global-Local Profiles, which for a given problem and a fixed computational budget, assess the tradeoffs of distributing the budget over few or many starting points, with the former getting more budget per point and latter less. Cost-optimal model predictive scheduling of home appliances

A novel heuristic model-based optimal scheduling algorithm is proposed in this paper to operate heating and cooling type home appliances connected to smart grids where the price of the electrical energy is known in advance and temperature constraints are present. The properties and the use of the proposed algorithm are shown using a simple refrigerator model. The accuracy and the computational properties of the proposed method are compared to the schedule generated by the MPT toolbox. The algorithm works well with a relatively short prediction horizon using a fraction of the computing time needed for the MPT-based method. The robustness of the algorithm is also investigated with respect to the load of the refrigerator. It is shown that the designed schedule with an empty refrigerator is always suitable, yet not optimal, for any loaded case. © 2017

Cooperative opinion dynamics on multiple interdependent topics: Modeling and analysis

To model the interdependent couplings of multiple topics, we develop a set of rules for opinion updates of a group of agents. The rules are used to design or assign values to the elements of interdependent weighting matrices. The cooperative and anti-cooperative couplings are modeled in both the inverse-proportional and proportional feedbacks. The behaviors of cooperative opinion dynamics are analyzed using a null space property of state-dependent matrix-weighted Laplacian matrices and a Lyapunov candidate. Various consensus properties of state-dependent matrix-weighted Laplacian matrices are predicted according to the intra-agent network topology and interdependency topical coupling topologies. We investigate integral input-to-state stability (iISS) of networked control systems (NCSs). In particular, we establish that the bound for the maximum allowable transfer interval (MATI) developed in [Carnevale et al., 2007] also allows for iISS of NCS with an emulated controller. It is also established that our results subsume existing work on input-to-state stability of NCSs as a special case. We illustrate our results via an example. © 2017

The cultivation of Escherichia coli bacteria is widely used by geneticists and biopharmaceuticals to produce medicines and vaccines. In such industries, Bioprocesses are known by their harsh environment and very expensive physical sensors. This paper deals with nonlinear estimation and control of fed-batch Escherichia coli bioprocess. Enhancing the process performance and maximizing its efficiency by optimizing the control of Escherichia coli cultures depends on the availability of appropriate online sensors for the main culture components. In this study, an innovative method for nonlinear estimation and control of bioprocesses is designed and assessed. The new algorithm for control and estimation of Escherichia coli bioprocess states, based on the State-Dependent Riccati Equation technique, is validated by numerical simulation. The results obtained clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique for Biosystems in measuring, monitoring, and control of their natural nonlinear dynamics. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2017.

This note studies (practical) asymptotic stability of nonlinear networked control systems whose protocols are not necessarily uniformly globally exponentially stable. In particular, we propose a Lyapunov-based approach to establish (practical) asymptotic stability of the networked control systems. Considering so-called modified Round Robin and Try-Once-Discard protocols, which are only uniformly globally asymptotically stable, we explicitly construct Lyapunov functions for these two protocols, which fit our proposed setting. In order to optimize the usage of communication resource, we exploit the following transmission policy: wait for a certain minimum amount of time after the last sampling instant and then check a state-dependent criterion. When the latter condition is violated, a transmission occurs. In that way, the existence of the minimum amount of time between two consecutive transmission is established and so-called Zeno phenomenon, therefore, is avoided. Finally, illustrative examples are given to verify the effectiveness of our results. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The expected growth in the mobile video (including streaming video, video downloading, conferencing, etc.) now is the key driver for rapid development of 5G wireless network technologies. This paradigm forces wireless networks to manage their resources as effectively as possible. One of the most appropriate solutions for video traffic that may provide the sufficient spectral efficiency is multicasting. Multicast sessions allows a group of users to simultaneously access the same multimedia content with the same QoE parameters. In this paper we consider different methods of multicast subgrouping. An analytical framework in the from of a queuing network is proposed to study the network performance, and a comparative study of network performance metrics under different user movement scenarios is presented.
