The paper deals with simulation, control and visualization of color-sorting machine. It is based on Matlab family products. In particular, Matlab R2007b and Simulink as a general simulation environment, with Stateflow to simulate STD-based models. Virtual Reality Toolbox for 3D visualization and Real Time Toolbox for connection between simulation and real world. Using Tagaki-Sugeno method, expert fuzzy system is designed for color detection which is most crucial part of the project. Physical model of color-sorting machine was developed at the laboratory of department of measurement and control. Because of complexity of the system it can be integrated in the lessons of Image Processing and control systems.

Hydrostatic transmissions, also called hydrostatic gears, have been widely used in mobile working machines and off-road vehicles such as construction and agricultural machines. This kind of transmission offers important advantages like continuously variable transmission with high power density, maximum tractive force at low speeds and reversing without changing gear. The automatic electronic control of hydrostatic transmissions, which depend on a number of measurable values, has become more common in industrial practice. To ensure the reliability and safety at least a two-channel redundant system for the measuring channels is required. In this paper, a general model-based approach using a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy observer for analytical redundancy of the oil pressure measuring process in hydrostatic transmissions is developed. It has been shown by experimental results that this approach can be used to estimate the pressure values under varying load conditions and different driving situations.

This paper deals with a possibility of non-destructive diagnostics of solid objects by software analysis of vibration spectrum by accelerometers. By a use of MATLAB platform, a processing and information evaluation from accelerometer is possible. Accelerometer is placed on the measured object. The analog signal needs to be digitized by a special I/O device to be processed offline with FFT (Fast Fourier Transformation). The power spectrum is then examined by developed evaluating procedures.

Human activity can be measured with actimetry sensors used by the subjects in several locations such as the wrists or legs. Actigraphy data is used in different contexts such as sports training or tele-medicine monitoring. In the diagnosis of sleep disorders, the actimetry sensor, which is basically a 3D axis accelerometer, is used by the patient in the non dominant wrist typically during an entire week. In this paper the actigraphy data is described by a weighted mixture of two distributions where the weight evolves along the day according to the patient circadian cycle. Thus, one of the distributions is mainly associated with the wakefulness state while the other is associated with the sleep state. Actigraphy data, acquired from 20 healthy patients and manually segmented by trained technicians, is used to characterize the acceleration magnitude during sleep and wakefulness states. Several mixture combinations are tested and statistically validated with conformity measures. It is shown that both distributions can co-exist at a certain time with varying importance along the circadian cycle.

Many brain events and disorders can be detected by analyzing electroencephalograms (EEGs). Also the availability of quantitative biological markers that are correlated with qualitative psychiatric phenotypes helps us to utilize automated methods to diagnose and classify these phenotypes. One such a psychiatric phenotype is alcoholism. In this study a method to select an optimal subset of EEG channels for the purpose of practical classification of alcohol abusers from normal subjects is proposed, which is based on combination of model-based spectral analysis and correlation matrices. The EEG signals were recorded when the subjects were represented with single trial visual stimuli. The proposed method proved successful in selecting an optimum number of channels which achieved acceptable average classification accuracy.

This paper proposes a new 4-Degree-of-Freedom (DOF) master-slave system for 3 dimensional needle steering. Both master and slave devices are commonly composed of a 3 DOF spherical type parallel mechanism and a 1 DOF needle insertion mechanism. This system provides users with 3 dimensional needle steering and force reflection capabilities. The real time forward solution of the master device is addressed. The design of the master-slave system is described in detail. Finally, the effectiveness of this system for 3 dimensional needle steering task is verified through experimental work.

Recently, quite a few practical parallel mechanisms having spatial 3-DOF and 6-DOF have been introduced and implemented. However, not many useful practical applications using low-mobility parallel mechanisms having 4-DOF and 5-DOF have been developed. In this paper, we propose a 4-DOF parallel mechanism for needle insertion application in which proper orientation and needle insertion process are required. The mechanism has four outer chains and one passive middle chain through which a needle insertion motion occurs. The kinematic modeling and kinematic analysis are performed to understand the characteristics of this mechanism. Through the singularity analysis, a singularity-free design for the desired workspace is proposed. Finally, the effectiveness of this device as a needle insertion device is shown through experimental work.

This paper presents an intelligent adaptive neurofuzzy inference system (ANFIS) based fuzzy Mamdani controller for a multifingered prosthetic hand. The objective of the controller is to move the finger joint angles along predetermined paths representing a grasping motion. The initiation of the grasping task is evaluated via EMG-entropy data, measured at the forearm of the prosthetic user. In addition to the motion control, the finger force is regulated with a Fuzzy logic controller. Simulation results indicate good performance of the proposed controller. Results show that the outputs follow the hand/finger force and given reference trajectory closely.
