The HomeCare is a special monitoring system of the basic life functions. It has been primarily designed to take care for elderly people. But many of the designed devices could be used in the other branches of biotelemetry. Our HomeCare system is designed with respect to user comfort and it uses as cheap technical solutions as possible. In cooperation with the Ostrava University a Homecare Testing Flat has been realized. There are tested our Homecare solutions in vivo. This article is focused on the designed HomeCare system, on measured parameters and on used wireless technologies. The Circadian rhythm measurement and its usage in the HomeCare system are discussed in the article too.

This paper describes experience with creation and using multimedia for education support of Biomedical engineering. In this paper the methodology of creation multimedia education materials from begining to final distribution is described. Also created multimedia titules and education programs made in cooperation with University Hospital Ostrava and other specialized workplaces are presented.

Super-resolution (SR) is the term used to define the process of estimating a high resolution (HR) image or a set of HR images from a set of low resolution (LR) observations. In this paper we propose a class of SR algorithms based on the maximum a posteriori (MAP) framework. These algorithms utilize a new multichannel image prior model, along with the state-of-the art image prior and observation models. Numerical experiments comparing the proposed algorithms, demonstrate the advantages of the adopted multichannel approach. copyright by EURASIP.

The ultrasound is the most practical and the most considerate method of the examining in this time. It is using in the examining of tender tissues in the organism. The output of these examines can be various types of visual representations. The individual parts of tissues and blood vessels are represented by the B-mode ultrasound representation. D-mode ultrasound representation is using for the representation of the bloody values. This mode is operating on the dependence of the Dopplers effect principal. There is the possibility of using FPGA technology to make the results of acquired signal from the ultrasound. This technology is allowing to realise constituted proposal with the VHDL programme language. This work continues the information about the Doppler sound processing in the ultrasonography, basic information about using the FPGA technology, the proposal and results of realization of the sound processing with developmental Xtreme DSP kit with FPGA Virtex II-Pro.

This paper compares task jitter measurement performed under RTLinux and RTX hard real-time operating systems. Both the operating environments represent hardware abstraction layer extensions to general-purpose operating systems, and make possible to create a real-time system according to the POSIX 1003.13 PSE 54 profile (multipurpose system). The paper is focused on discussion of experimental results, obtained on PC hardware, and their interpretation.

Existence of software platform, which will allow us to monitor the patients' bio-parameters and provide us with services which help with full health care, is more than relevant these days. The aim of our project is to provide solution which can be used in different spheres of health care and which will be available through PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), web or desktop clients. Practically developing system works with an ECG sensor connected to mobile equipment, such as PDA/Embedded, based on Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system. The whole system is based on the architecture of .NET Compact Framework, and SQL Server. The project was tested in real environment in cryogenic room (-136degC).

Eight years on from the start of the development of the aLF (active Learning Framework) platform, by the Innova group (in the LINED, Spain), we have approximately 100,000 users grouped in more than 500 virtual learning communities. The development of an integrated space of communities and courses has provided a unified model adapted to the new European Higher Education Area (EHEA). In the first part of the paper the fundamentals of aLF are discussed, and the service model provided based on the concept of virtual community. Following the description of aLF, how the official digital repository (based on an application of Fedora) has been integrated into aLF to allow professors and students to search for (and retrieve) digital content (audio and video generated from more than 30 years of LINED activity and references from papers) is described. The paper will discuss the application developed together with the advantages of using it: recorded classes reused in the courses, access to institutional library material in a distance education model and a simple way of consulting related content to help students in their learning activities.

Optimal trajectories in energetic environment for underwater vehicles can be computed using a numerical solution of the optimal control problem (OCP). An underwater vehicle is modeled with the six dimensional nonlinear and coupled equations of motion, controlled by DC motors in all degrees of freedom. An energy performance index that should be minimized may be considered. This leads to a two point boundary value problem (TPBVP). The resulting TPBVP is generally solved using iterative methods. In this paper, the applications of two different intelligent algorithms are briefly studied and compared versus the generally acceptable conjugate gradient penalty (CGP) method for the OCP. Genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) methods are applied to solve OCP. Two approaches for performance index minimization, using GA and PSO, are proposed. CGP method is used to solve the TPBVP, by applying Euler-Lagrange equation. The simulation results show that the trajectories obtained by the intelligent methods were better than that of conjugate gradient penalty. After analyzing the simple path planning problem, the problem energetic environments consisting some energy sources is propounded. The optimal paths are found using GA and PSO algorithms. The problem of collision avoidance in an energetic environment is solved and energy avoidance paths are computed.

Hard computing based optimization algorithms usually require a lot of computational resources and generally do not have the ability to arrive at the global optimum solution. Soft computing algorithms on the other hand negate these deficiencies, by allowing for reduced computational loads and the ability to find global optimal solutions, even for complex cost surfaces. This paper presents two numerical case studies where a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is applied to biomedical problems. In particular, the problem of identifying the rupture force for leukocyte adhesion molecules and the problem of finding the correct control parameters of a robotic hand, are addressed. Simulation results indicate that PSO is a feasible alternative to the computational expensive hard computing algorithms.

A model of the switched fuzzy systems whose subsystems are fuzzy systems is presented first. Then the problem of state feedback robust H8 control of this class of systems is solved using switching technique and single Lyapunov function. A switching strategy of the switched fuzzy system with continuous controlled input is developed. The main condition is given in form of convex combination linear matrix inequalities, which are solvable using LMI Toolbox. The elaborated illustrative but real-world example and the respective simulation experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2008 IEEE.
