We report on the performance of a low noise and high count rate readout ASIC with binary architecture and energy window section for X-ray imaging applications using semiconductor detectors. The ASIC called RG64 is designed in 0.35 μm CMOS process and its total area is 3900×5000 μm 2 . The core of RG64 consists of 64 readout channels. Each channel is built of a charge sensitive amplifier with a second order shaper of peaking time 75 ns, two independent discriminators with an 8-bit offset correction circuit and two independent 20-bit counters with RAM memory buffers. The ENC of the circuit reaches the value of about 126 el. rms with 1 pF input load and 5 mW power consumption per single channel. The mean gain in the multichannel ASIC is about 50 μV/el., with the dispersion from channel to channel of 0.9 %. The deviation of the effective threshold voltage spread for given energy can be set below 7 el. rms (calculated to CSA input). High count rate measurements have been performed up to 2 Mcps of average rate of input pulses, both for AC and DC coupling silicon strip detectors with the X-ray photons of energy 8.04 keV. The RG64 can operate both in the continuous readout mode and in the readout mode separate from exposure.

This paper studies the time-delay effect on the equivalent control based sliding mode control. Conditions to guarantee the boundedness of the control system steady states under the time delayed equivalent control based sliding mode control are obtained. Maximum upper bound of the delay time to guarantee boundedness is estimated. Simulations are conducted to verify the theoretical results.

This paper presents stability analysis of the time-delayed equivalent control based single input sliding mode control systems using an LMI approach. Conditions to guarantee the boundedness of the control system trajectories under the time-delayed equivalent control based sliding mode control are obtained. Maximum upper bound of the delay time to guarantee stability is estimated. Digital simulations are conducted to verify the theoretical results.

Globalization is making both developed and developing countries think about effective and efficient strategies that will advance their economies and social development. Throughout the history of civilization, engineering has played a critical role in economic development. Engineers are key not only in solving local problems but also in knowledge creation and knowledge transfer. Thus, it is imperative that technical know-how be supplemented with professional skills to develop an 'adaptive leader' who is capable of addressing the multiple challenges of an ever changing world. The key-question posed by the 21st century global economy to engineering educators and stake-holders is this: "How can education in science and technology help to reduce poverty, boost socio-economic development, and take the right decisions for sustainable and environmental compatible development?" To answer these questions, a global approach is needed: and this can only be accomplished by a "team" which has its roots in all regions of the world, i.e. which is enabled to think globally and then act locally. There's a need to establish effective engineering education processes of high quality around the world to assure a global supply of well-prepared engineering graduates. This paper describes the reasons for the creation in October 2006 of IFEES - the International Federation of engineering Education Societies. It will describe the vision, mission, and key strategies of IFEES. It will also describe some of the initiatives currently underway and how the various engineering education stakeholders can leverage and benefit from engaging with IFEES, thus strengthening the organizational capacity of engineering education societies throughout the world. A considerable amount of research has been done on the use of logarithmic quantizers for networked feedback control systems. However, most results are developed for the case of a single quantizer (either measurement or control signal quantization). In this paper, we investigate the case of simultaneous input and output quantization for SISO linear output feedback systems. Firstly, we show that the problem of quadratic stabilization via quantized feedback can be addressed with no conservativeness by means of the sector bound approach. Secondly, we provide a bound on the maximal admissible sector bound via a scaled H ¿ optimization problem.

In this article there are described applications of embedded systems for diagnostic and maintenance planning in healthcare applications. During the recent years, there was a rapid growth in the development of maintenance telemedicine systems and monitoring devices for patients with chronic diseases and those requiring continuous telemonitoring treatments. However most of these systems only provide telemonitoring services or basic information about the health condition of the patients. For this reason an intelligent home health care embedded system that can provide to the patients with diagnosis their health status at home is developed. As a result different types of pluggable medical transducers for patients with different illnesses can be flexibly connected to the interface of the embedded system. The home care systems are possible to use as predictive diagnostic systems. © 2007 IEEE.

In this paper a method to estimate the initial rotor position of the switched reluctance motor (SRM) at the stand still condition is proposed. The proposed method can be implemented by the simple microcontroller based system, and it is not necessary to know the magnetization curves. The impulse gate drive signal is applied and the winding current is detected and its approximate value is used for calculating the rotor position. The compensation method to reduce the estimation error thorough one cycle is also mentioned. The proposed method is implemented with the 6-stator-pole and 4-rotor-pole, 1.5 kW 3-phase switched reluctance motor.
