This study delves into the significant role played by Quantum Dot Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (QD-SOAs) in meeting the ever-growing bandwidth demands. QD-SOAs offer a unique blend of cost-effectiveness, integration capabilities, wide bandwidth, rapid responsiveness, robust power output, stability, and spectral adaptability, driving notable advancements in optical communication systems. In this work, we introduce a novel two-wavelength amplifier structure based on Quantum Dot Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (QD-SOAs) that utilizes quantum dots of different sizes to achieve efficient amplification at specific mid-infrared wavelengths. This innovative approach, which incorporates quantum dots with varying sizes, enables enhanced performance by optimizing the amplification process for each specific wavelength. Furthermore, this work demonstrates the use of tailored optical pumping mechanisms that enhance the carrier recovery process and reduce carrier relaxation times in the active region. This novel optical pumping technique leads to a significant increase in the efficiency and speed of the amplifier, distinguishing this study from others in the field. Simulation results provide detailed insights into the complex interplay between carrier interactions and gain spectra, offering a comprehensive understanding of QD-SOA operational dynamics. The proposed Quantum Dot Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (QD-SOA) achieves significant advancements in optical communication, offering maximum amplification rates of 26.9 and 19.9 times for QD1 and QD2, respectively, and bandwidths of 12 THz and 15 THz. The study highlights the role of quantum dot size, homogeneous and inhomogeneous broadening, and optical pumping in enhancing gain and performance, demonstrating the potential of QD-SOAs for high-gain, wide-bandwidth applications in photonic systems. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Within the electronic design automation(EDA) domain, artificial intelligence(AI)-driven solutions have emerged as formidable tools, yet they typically augment rather than redefine existing methodologies. These solutions often repurpose deep learning models from other domains, such as vision, text, and graph analytics, applying them to circuit design without tailoring to the unique complexities of electronic circuits. Such an “AI4EDA” approach falls short of achieving a holistic design synthesis and understanding,overlooking the intricate interplay of electrical, logical, and physical facets of circuit data. This study argues for a paradigm shift from AI4EDA towards AI-rooted EDA from the ground up, integrating AI at the core of the design process. Pivotal to this vision is the development of a multimodal circuit representation learning technique, poised to provide a comprehensive understanding by harmonizing and extracting insights from varied data sources, such as functional specifications, register-transfer level(RTL) designs, circuit netlists,and physical layouts. We champion the creation of large circuit models(LCMs) that are inherently multimodal, crafted to decode and express the rich semantics and structures of circuit data, thus fostering more resilient, efficient, and inventive design methodologies. Embracing this AI-rooted philosophy, we foresee a trajectory that transcends the current innovation plateau in EDA, igniting a profound “shift-left” in electronic design methodology. The envisioned advancements herald not just an evolution of existing EDA tools but a revolution, giving rise to novel instruments of design-tools that promise to radically enhance design productivity and inaugurate a new epoch where the optimization of circuit performance, power, and area(PPA) is achieved not incrementally, but through leaps that redefine the benchmarks of electronic systems' capabilities.

Review of dehazing techniques: challenges and future trends

The phenomenon of atmospheric haze arises due to the scattering of light by minute particles suspended in the atmosphere. This optical effect gives rise to visual degradation in images and videos. The degradation is primarily influenced by two key factors: atmospheric attenuation and scattered light. Scattered light causes an image to be veiled in a whitish veil, while attenuation diminishes the image inherent contrast. Efforts to enhance image and video quality necessitate the development of dehazing techniques capable of mitigating the adverse impact of haze. This scholarly endeavor presents a comprehensive survey of recent advancements in the domain of dehazing techniques, encompassing both conventional methodologies and those founded on machine learning principles. Traditional dehazing techniques leverage a haze model to deduce a dehazed rendition of an image or frame. In contrast, learning-based techniques employ sophisticated mechanisms such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and different deep Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to create models that can discern dehazed representations by learning intricate parameters like transmission maps, atmospheric light conditions, or their combined effects. Furthermore, some learning-based approaches facilitate the direct generation of dehazed outputs from hazy inputs by assimilating the non-linear mapping between the two. This review study delves into a comprehensive examination of datasets utilized within learning-based dehazing methodologies, elucidating their characteristics and relevance. Furthermore, a systematic exposition of the merits and demerits inherent in distinct dehazing techniques is presented. The discourse culminates in the synthesis of the primary quandaries and challenges confronted by prevailing dehazing techniques. Particles in the atmosphere, such as dust and smoke, can cause visual clarity problems in both images and videos. Haze is the result of the interaction between airborne particles and light, which is scattered and attenuated. Hazy media present difficulties in a variety of applications due to the reduced contrast and loss of essential information. In response, dehazing techniques have been introduced to bring hazy videos and images back to clarity. Here, we provide a novel technique for eliminating haze. It comprises preprocessing steps before dehazing. Preprocessing is applied to hazy images through homomorphic processing and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE). We present a dehazing technique referred to as the pre-trained Feature Fusion Attention Network (FFA-Net) that directly lets dehazed images be restored from hazy or preprocessed hazy inputs without requiring the determination of atmospheric factors, such as air light and transmission maps. The FFA-Net architecture incorporates a Feature Attention (FA) method to do this task. We assess the proposed technique in a variety of circumstances, including visible frames, Near-Infrared (NIR) frames, and real-world hazy images. Evaluation criteria like entropy, correlation, and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) are used to compare the quality of dehazed frames or images to their hazy counterparts. Furthermore, histogram analysis and spectral entropy are adopted to determine the effectiveness of the proposed technique in comparison to existing dehazing techniques. Comparative results are presented for both real-world and simulated environments. The benefits of the proposed technique are demonstrated by a comparison of the results obtained from the standalone pre-trained FFA-Net and the proposed comprehensive methodology. The escalating reliance on biometric systems for identity verification underscores the imperative for robust data protection mechanisms. Biometric authentication, leveraging unique biological and behavioral characteristics, offers unparalleled precision in individual identification. However, the integrity and confidentiality of biometric data remain paramount concerns, given its susceptibility to compromise. This research delineates the development and implementation of an innovative framework for cancellable biometrics, focusing on facial and fingerprint recognition. This study introduces a novel cancellable biometrics framework that integrates graph theory encryption with three-dimensional chaotic logistic mapping. The methodology encompasses a multifaceted approach: initially employing graph theory for the secure and efficient encryption of biometric data, subsequently enhanced by the complexity and unpredictability of three-dimensional chaotic logistic mapping. This dual-layered strategy ensures the robustness of the encryption, thereby significantly elevating the security of biometric data against unauthorized access and potential compromise. Thus, the resulting cancellable biometrics, characterized by the ability to transform biometric data into an adjustable representation, addresses critical challenges in biometric security. It allows for the revocation and reissuance of biometric credentials, thereby safeguarding the original biometric characteristics of individuals. This feature not only enhances user privacy and data security but also introduces a dynamic aspect to biometric authentication, facilitating adaptability across diverse systems and applications. Navigating the world with visual impairments presents unique challenges, often limiting independence and safety. This research introduces SafeStride, a novel algorithm designed to empower visually impaired individuals through real-time obstacle detection and navigation assistance. SafeStride functions through five interconnected phases: sensor data acquisition, data preprocessing, obstacle detection, path planning, and feedback and guidance. A combination of ultrasonic sensors, cameras, and inertial measurement units (IMUs) feed comprehensive environmental data into the system, enabling accurate obstacle detection and safe path planning. Evaluating SafeStride's performance involved the MNIST dataset for image recognition and a dedicated indoor object detection dataset. Additionally, comparisons were made against three deep learning models—convolutional neural network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), and gated recurrent unit (GRU). The results showcased SafeStride's high accuracy and effectiveness in both obstacle detection and classification. Beyond its impressive performance, SafeStride represents a significant leap forward in navigation aids for the visually impaired. By offering a comprehensive solution that enhances safety and independence in diverse environments, it holds immense potential to improve the lives of countless individuals. Future efforts will focus on further optimizing the algorithm and testing its real-world capabilities, paving the way for a future where safe and independent navigation becomes a reality for all. Proposed 3D chaos-based medical image cryptosystem for secure cloud-IoMT eHealth communication services

Medical image encryption is a mandatory process in various healthcare, Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and cloud services. This paper provides a robust cryptosystem based on a 3D chaotic map for the medical image encryption in secure IoMT and cloud services. The proposed encryption method depends on a 3D chaotic map. With this map, a nonlinear ciphering process is implemented for pixel value diffusion and position permutation. Five operations are conducted in the suggested cryptosystem on the medical images to be transmitted in order to attain a high security level. These operations are 3D chaos generation, chaos histogram equalization, row rotation, column rotation, and XOR operation. To validate the suggested cryptosystem, different medical images with different characteristics are tested. Moreover, the suggested cryptosystem and more recent state-of-the-art security systems are discussed and analyzed in a comparative study. Different assessment parameters are adopted to assess the suggested cryptosystem, which reveals high security performance. The simulation outcomes show that the suggested cryptosystem is trustworthy. Furthermore, it offers high robustness levels and recommended security levels for utilization in healthcare, IoMT and cloud service applications. It is observed that the amount of average entropy obtained by the proposed 3D chaos cryptosystem is 7.95 which is very close to its best value of 8, and the average NPCR value is 99.62% which is also much close to its supreme value of 99.60%. The detrimental effects of atmospheric haze frequently plague outdoor imagery. This phenomenon arises from the scattering of light by minute particles within the ambient environment surrounding the scene to be imaged. Haze engenders an overall whitening of the image, leading to diminished contrast. To address these issues and enhance the quality of hazy images and videos, an enhanced dehazing technique is proposed. The proposed technique includes image enhancement before the optimal dehazing process. The enhancement stage entails the implementation of both homomorphic processing and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE), serving to control the image dynamic range, while concurrently heightening the image contrast. The culminating stage encompasses an optimized dehazing technique, adept at expunging haze-induced artifacts from images. The homomorphic processing and CLAHE, applied in the pre-processing step, establish a foundation for the subsequent dehazing procedure. This proposed methodology is systematically applied to a gamut of visual outputs, including visible videos, Near-Infrared (NIR) frames, and authentic hazy images. Comparative evaluations of the proposed technique, homomorphic-processing-based enhanced dehazing, and standalone dehazing techniques is undertaken on different video types encompassing five frames. It is evident that the proposed technique, synergizing the homomorphic processing, CLAHE, and dehazing, outperforms alternative strategies. Furthermore, the proposed technique is subjected to a comparative study with various existing dehazing techniques over real hazy images. The assessment depends on Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), correlation, and entropy metrics. The results underscore the efficacy of the proposed technique, particularly in terms of spectral entropy enhancement of dehazed frames. For both visible and NIR frames, the percentages of enhancement by the proposed technique are 17.66% and 118.48%, respectively. ©

Inasmuch as the hyperspectral images are represented by large amounts of data it is necessary to adopt an appropriate method to reduce their size without affecting the quality of their processing results. This paper addresses the use of Tucker1 decomposition for tensor compression and dimensionality reduction, followed by a projection-based method, Principal Component Analysis (PCA). After dimensional reduction, some classifications were performed using the features extracted. Various supervised learning algorithms were used for which we calculated k-fold cross-validation loss. We made a comparison of these methods in terms of the classification results obtained. According to the results, at the same size of the transformed data, PCA features have led to lower accuracy than Tucker1 ones, and the original data. © 2022 IEEE.
