The subsystem of a visual functional test is an embedded system, which is an integral part of testing equipment for functional testing of electronic modules of dashboards of vehicles after their installation. The flexible solution of structure of measuring an information subsystem chain with a CCD camera and its interconnection with a controlling PC of testing equipment enables measurement and also analysis, in a long term time horizon, the functional characteristics of electro-optical parts installed generally in electronic modules produced. The solution is proposed with respect to reliability, the flexibility of re-installation also for other type of the electronic module measured, removal of the human factor from the process of visual functional tests and harmonization of the testing period with the period of production line.

This paper presents a development of improved Tabu search (ITS) and its application to a least-cost generation expansion planning (GEP) including biomass energy sources under global environmental impact consideration. A carbon tax is taken into account as counter measure to reduce CO 2 emission for introducing and promoting biomass energies to GEP problem based conventional fossil-fuel plants. The proposed ITS is conducted by the proposed a self-reforming candidate list strategies to improve search performance of a standard TS. The ITS approach is applied to the test system with 15 existing power plants, 5 types of conventional fossil-fuel and 2 types of biomass energy over a 14-year planning period. The simulation results reveal that the proposed ITS not only can yield optimal solution as well as dynamic programming, but also can remarkably reduce computational time. Moreover, the proposed method provides better solution superior to a standard Tabu search with promising results.

In this paper a novel approach to the impulsive noise removal in color images is presented. The proposed technique employs the switching scheme based on the impulse detection mechanism using the so called peer group concept. Compared to the vector median filter, the proposed technique consistently yields better results in suppressing both the random-valued and fixed-valued impulsive noise. The main advantage of the proposed noise detection framework is its enormous computational speed, which enables efficient filtering of large images in real-time applications. © 2005 IEEE.

In this paper, we demonstrate that it is unnecessary to take the route from general type-2 fuzzy set to interval type-2 fuzzy set, and that all of the results that are needed to implement an interval type-2 fuzzy logic system can be obtained using type-1 fuzzy set mathematics. As such, this paper makes an interval type-2 fuzzy logic system much more accessible to the fuzzy logic community, and we can now develop an interval type-2 fuzzy logic system in a much more straightforward way.

This paper describes a design for adaptive control of transverse flux permanent magnet machines as nonlinear systems with unknown nonlinearities by utilizing Takagi-Sugeno-Kang type neuro-fuzzy networks. The technique of feedback linearization and H infin control are used to design the adaptive control law for compensating the unknown nonlinear parts, such the effect of cogging torque, as a disturbance on the rotor angle and angular velocity tracking performances. Finally, the capability of the proposed method is shown by the simulation results

In this paper a robust adaptive pole placement method for a class of linear parameter varying (LPV) system based on input-output description is constructed after the LPV system model, including its un-modeled error model term, is presented. The recursive least square estimation algorithm with dead zone is applied for the parameter estimation. The robust stability of closed-loop system is analyzed and the robust bound is derived. One simulation example illustrates the effectiveness of the control algorithm and demonstrates that the adaptive control based on LPV model can achieve better performance than the controller based on linear time varying (LTV) model

Repetitive processes are a distinct class of 2D systems (*** propagation in two independent directions) of both systems theoretic and applications interest. They cannot be controlled by direct extension of existing techniques from either standard (termed 1D here) or 2D systems theory. Here we give new results on the design of physically based control laws and, in particular, the first results on a mixed H 2 /H ∞ approach and on H 2 control in the presence of uncertainty in the process model.

We have established a medical network in Asia-Pacific area with high-quality moving image on a super broad-banded internet line since February 2003. Broadcasting real-time surgery and teleconference with medical-quality videos with Digital Video Transport System (DVTS) were so useful to learn surgical techniques and other medical procedures beyond borders. We have conducted 20 events in categories of teleconference (8 times), live transmission of medical procedure (6 times), and remote attendance to scientific medical meetings (6 times) until September 2004. We had teleconferences among 3 countries in APAN-Hawaii in January 2004 (Japan, Korea and USA), and in APAN-Cairns in July 2004 (Japan, Korea and Australia). There have been no serious transmission/ ethical problems sofar. With these experiences and current achievements, we hope to extend this advanced network system to whole Asia-Pacific countries to share medical skills and knowledge. © 2005 IEEE.
