This book highlights new trends and challenges in research on agents and the new digital and knowledge economy. It includes papers on business process management, agent-based modeling and simulation and anthropic-oriented computing that were originally presented at the 17th International KES Conference on Agents and Multi-Agent Systems: Technologies and Applications (KES-AMSTA 2023), held in Rome, Italy, in June 14–16, 2023. The respective papers cover topics such as software agents, multi-agent systems, agent modeling, mobile and cloud computing, big data analysis, business intelligence, artificial intelligence, social systems, computer embedded systems and nature-inspired manufacturing, all of which contribute to the modern digital economy.

As an advanced carrier of on-board sensors, connected autonomous vehicle (CAV) can be viewed as an aggregation of self-adaptive systems with monitor-analyze-plan-execute (MAPE) for vehicle-related services. Meanwhile, machine learning (ML) has been applied to enhance analysis and plan functions of MAPE so that self-adaptive systems have optimal adaption to changing conditions. However, most of ML-based approaches don’t utilize CAVs’ connectivity to collaboratively generate an optimal learner for MAPE, because of sensor data threatened by gradient leakage attack (GLA). In this article, we first design an intelligent architecture for MAPE-based self-adaptive systems on Web 3.0-based CAVs, in which a collaborative machine learner supports the capabilities of managing systems. Then, we observe by practical experiments that importance sampling of sparse vector technique (SVT) approaches cannot defend GLA well. Next, we propose a fine-grained SVT approach to secure the learner in MAPE-based self-adaptive systems, that uses layer and gradient sampling to select uniform and important gradients. At last, extensive experiments show that our private learner spends a slight utility cost for MAPE (e.g., \(0.77\%\) decrease in accuracy) defending GLA and outperforms the typical SVT approaches in terms of defense (increased by \(10\%\sim 14\%\) attack success rate) and utility (decreased by \(1.29\%\) accuracy loss).

The two-volume set LNCS 7565 and 7566 constitutes the refereed proceedings of three confederated international conferences: Cooperative Information Systems (CoopIS 2012), Distributed Objects and Applications - Secure Virtual Infrastructures (DOA-SVI 2012), and Ontologies, DataBases and Applications of SEmantics (ODBASE 2012) held as part of OTM 2012 in September 2012 in Rome, Italy. The 53 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 169 submissions. The 22 full papers included in the first volume constitute the proceedings of CoopIS 2012 and are organized in topical sections on business process design; process verification and analysis; service-oriented architectures and cloud; security, risk, and prediction; discovery and detection; collaboration; and 5 short papers.

Welcome to 00lS'01 and Calgary! This is the 7th International Conference on Object-Oriented Information Systems (OOlS) that focus on Object-Oriented and Web-Based Frameworks for Information Systems. In the last few years we've seen significant new development in this field, from one-off design technologies to reusable frameworks, and from web applications to bioinformatic systems. We perceive that information processing is one of the most important activities of human beings. Object-orientation and frameworks have been the main-stream technologies for design and implementation of large-scale and complex information systems. Recent research advances and industrial innovations in information systems modeling and Internet applications have explored the new trends in shifting information system vendors from component and system developers to services providers. Users of information systems are increasingly demanding higher performance, mobility, and personalization in order to realize the dream to access and obtain necessary information anywhere and anytime. The new development requires the investigation of new architectures, frameworks, processes, and inter-connectivity of information systems at society, organization, team, and personal levels. The 00lS'01 Proceedings has put together a program of 53 papers from leading researchers and practitioners in the field of object technology and information systems.

This volume brings together, through a peer-revision process, the advanced research results obtained by the European COST Action 2102: Cross-Modal Analysis of Verbal and Nonverbal Communication, primarily discussed for the first time at the Second COST 2102 International Training School on “Development of Multimodal Int- faces: Active Listening and Synchrony” held in Dublin, Ireland, March 23–27 2009. The school was sponsored by COST (European Cooperation in the Field of Sci- tific and Technical Research, *** ) in the domain of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for disseminating the advances of the research activities developed within the COST Action 2102: “Cross-Modal Analysis of Verbal and Nonverbal Communication” (***) COST Action 2102 in its third year of life brought together about 60 European and 6 overseas scientific laboratories whose aim is to develop interactive dialogue systems and intelligent virtual avatars graphically embodied in a 2D and/or 3D interactive virtual world, capable of interacting intelligently with the environment, other avatars, and particularly with human users.
