The paper describes the interaction between Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech, Tallinn, Estonia) and ITMO University (St. Petersburg, Russia) based on recently signed agreement. The purpose of the agreement is to record the intention of TalTech and ITMO University to cooperate on implementing a double master's degree program, which involves confirmation of the master's educational level absorption and the award of master's degree and obtention of two diplomas, and to outline the organizational form, principles and terms of the implementation. The double degree Program is a two-year Master's program of 120 ECTS credit points. Its structure and content meets the requirements that both TalTech and ITMO University have established for their master's programs, in accordance with the government standards. Development and approval of the double degree Program is held by the Parties in accordance with the procedures established by them. This paper describes the procedure of implementation of a double-degree master program in mechatronics engineering. © 2020 IEEE.

Predictive direct speed control (PDSC) of electric drives eliminates the cascade control structure and provides faster speed and current/torque response, but suffers from the selection of weighting factors (WFs). This paper proposes a PDSC strategy without WFs for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. The proposed method evaluates each control objective separately and decides on the optimum voltage vector using normalized Euclidean distances in $n$ -dimensional space generated by the objective functions. Simulation results show that it provides good control performance in different operating conditions with its inherent overcurrent protection feature while simplifying the design process. Finally, the proposed method overcomes the difficulty of WF selection in the traditional PDSC strategy with a slight additional computational load and also improves the overall control performance.

This paper presents the main faults of brushless DC motors and their diagnostic possibilities. Due to the popularity gain of such devices in the past decade, the maintenance and diagnostic of such machines is getting more important. As the machines are used in various applications, they are often critical parts of devices. Due to this, the unexpected failures of such machines are undesired and are to be avoided. The main faults of the machines are listed, some possibilities of their monitoring and diagnostics have been addressed. The necessity of further study has been pointed out. © 2020 IEEE.

In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in renewable energy. Particularly, wind energy is gaining more and more popularity in many countries. However, the main obstacles to wind turbines usage are the vibration and noise close to wind farms. Therefore, this paper is focused on developing a new method for mathematical simulation of vibrations of a wind turbine in order to find out and reduce the vibration level. Particularly, low-frequency vibration of a wind turbine, composed of a tower and rotor in the out-of-balance condition is considered. The proposed method of vibration simulation is based on the theory of elastic beams and the general vibration theory. The calculations are made for a wind turbine VTR 50 Arctic. The results of the calculations are the displacement of the tower top and the stress at the tower foundation. Furthermore, it is worth emphasizing that the method is quite flexible. It allows adding complexity into the system, for instance, external loads such as wind pressure, aerodynamic loads, seismic loads or operational loads. © 2020 IEEE.

A novel motor concept of a scalable axial flux motor with U-core plates (AxMDM) and a GRP (glass fiber reinforced plastic) disk rotor was developed. In this paper, the verification of the analytically calculated torque for the AxMDM is shown. It is also shown that a miniaturization of the U-core lamination improves the ratio of torque per active weight.

Addressing the escalating demand for renewable energy resources (RES) as a solution to environmental concerns and fossil fuel dependency, the need for efficient energy storage systems and balancing mechanisms to mitigate the inherent uncertainty in RES output has become imperative. However, the feasibility of providing dedicated storage units to RES owners is often challenging. Moreover, the growing interest in hydrogen utilization adds another layer of complexity for the optimal decision making for the operation of the system considering various carriers of energy. In light of these challenges, this paper proposes a groundbreaking bidding strategy that enables wind farms to seamlessly participate in day-ahead (DA), balancing, and hydrogen markets, leveraging the advantages of shared multi-energy storage (SMES) systems. These SMES systems, comprising both batteries and hydrogen storage units, can be rented out to RES owners, offering a cost-effective and practical solution. By employing effective wind farm management techniques and optimizing the utilization of SMES resources, an innovative bidding strategy is formulated for electrical DA markets, real-time balancing markets, and the DA hydrogen market. Furthermore, this study incorporates risk-management techniques using conditional value at risk (CVaR) analysis, catering to various risk-aversion parameters. This comprehensive analysis sheds light on the outcomes of different strategies and ensures robust decision-making. Additionally, the Dantzig-Wolfe Decomposition (DWD) approach is employed as a decentralized framework to mitigate complexity and enhance data privacy. The problem at hand is mathematically formulated as a mixed-integer linear program (MILP), and the GAMS software, along with the powerful CPLEX solver, is utilized for simulations and to validate the efficacy of the proposed framework. Vietnam is the country with the highest solar energy development rate in Southeast Asia thanks to the government’s attractive mechanisms and policies over the past decade. The installed capacity of solar power has increased dramatically from 105 MW in 201S to 16,504 MW by the end of 2020. This drastic increase has brought both positive and negative impacts to the power system; besides the positive impacts in terms of economics and the environment, many negative impacts have also been recorded in numerous studies related to power quality and system stability. This study was conducted to verify one of the most important impacts of high penetration level of photovoltaics (PV) into the power system, namely the impact on system’s active power loss; meanwhile, a power flow analysis model is used in combination with different PV penetration scenarios to find the maximum penetration limit where the voltage violations occur. A case-study was conducted for a medium voltage (MV) branch of Pleiku City power grid, Gia Lai Province, Vietnam using the ETAP power system analysis software. The results showed that an appropriate increase in PV penetration will help reduce power losses in the power system. When the penetration rate exceeds 135% of the system power, the reverse power flow resulting from the high penetration level of PV will lead to a large number of losses.

The problems associated with the operation of overhead power lines and ways of improving control over their condition with the help of UAVs are considered. A structural diagram of the system of technical diagnostics of overhead lines based on UAVs was developed, for which the necessary diagnostic parameters were selected according to informative criteria. An analysis of types of UAVs was carried out in order to determine their suitability and efficiency of use for diagnosing the condition of overhead lines.

Given the current environmental awareness and the growing interest in advanced and sustainable materials, the use of waste wood fibre and phosphogypsum has led to the development of eco-friendly composites. This paper presents a study on a new composite material, made of phosphogypsum matrix reinforced with natural wood fibre (NF) or waste wood fibre (WF). It was determined that the WF improved the mechanical strength of the specimens more effectively than the NF did. The highest mechanical strength was reached when small amount of fibre was incorporated (0.5 wt % of WF or 1 wt % of NF), due to the "reinforcement" effect. A further addition of of fibre reduced the compressive strength of the specimens, due to the decrease of density. The thermal conductivity ( λ ) was lowered by the addition of fibre, whereas the acoustic insulation properties ( SPL ) did not change. The optimal amount of fibre in the specimens was found to be 3 wt %, with which CS 100 = 13.5 MPa, λ = 0.39 W/mK and SPL = 64.5 dBA. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

There are two main approaches when discussing living green walls:an ecological one and an artistic *** thinking mainly considers environmental aspects,comfort enhancement and energy consumption and oversees human interaction and actual proximity to *** opposition,art or architecture installations that involve vegetation,lack technical and ecological aspects,aiming to raise awareness on environmental issues using human interaction either physically(direct)or emotionally(indirect).The present paper aims to analyze methods of combining the two directions,in a functional,ecological,yet aesthetically pleasing *** order to further develop previous experiences gathered by the team members,authors of this article,a green installation concept made out of interactive modular systems unites all the knowledge into a new,living,moving,dynamic,interactive structure whose inspiration is taken from nature while using biomimicry as main principle for its *** new concept responds and is influenced by both external,natural stimuli and by the human *** is a key element in developing this project,involving architecture,art,interior and landscape design,botany,geometry,mechanical and electrical engineering,leading towards new research directions and innovative approaches in greenery-interior environment connections.
