Many organizations face the problem of delivering goods from a certain number of warehouses to a number of retail sites using a fleet of vehicles. The Multiple Depot Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem is mathematical model that closely approximates the problem faced by many of these organizations. In regard that the problem is NP-hard, requiring excessive time to be exactly solved, in this article we develop heuristic based on genetic algorithm that finds high quality solutions in a reasonable amount of computer time. Basic GA procedures adapted to a given problem are presented and six versions of crossover operators are compared. The test results reveal that the method is able to produce results of a kind not easily obtained before namely in terms of an amount of information about the solutions and the solution space. © 2000 IEEE

The integrated planar resonant / transformer structure analysed are constructed from planar ferrltes, conductive layers, leakage layers and slabs of ceramic dielectric. The electromagnetic limits are analysed in terms of the permeabilities, permittivities and conductivities, skin effect, breakdown field and physical dimensions. An example of a converter with an integrated resonant / transformer (LLCT) structure is used to illustrate the analysis. This analysis indicates that the electromagnetic limits results in volumes two orders of magnitude smaller than the present, illustrating that the power density is at present only limited by constructional technology. The thermal limit is expected to be the next barrier within one order of magnitude. © 2000 IEEE.

The ability to supply consumers of an urban area without any longer interruption during a feeder segment or substation transformer outage is assured by a link network configuration. The goal of method proposed in this paper is to design such link distribution network that satisfies the growing and changing load demand during the long term planning period with minimal service costs subject to voltage drop, cable and transformer capacity limits, limited number of feeders outgoing at HV/MV substations and limited number of load points per link. The method is based on biologically inspired genetic algorithm (GA). Basic GA procedures adapted to the given problem that enable simultaneous routing of all links between HV/MV substations are presented. Six versions of crossover operators are compared. The results reveal that that the method is able to produce results of a kind not easily obtained before namely in terms of an amount of information about the solutions and the solution space.

This paper presents the computational tool which has been developed to support decision-making process regarding load forecasting in the context of the electric distribution networks' planning. The tool comprises trending methods as well as a method based on clustering algorithms, in conjunction with a geographic information system (GIS). The paper also presents development progress of the methodology that uses fuzzy reasoning to produce spatial load forecasts. Fuzzy clustering algorithms have been used to identify and obtain a fuzzy model from a structure contained in data.

The comparison of the performance of two artificial neural network or ANN paradigms trained to learn data obtained from the kinematics model of a UMI RTX robotic arm are presented. Trained ANN simulators were implemented to position the robotic manipulator demonstrating the feasibility of using ANN technology in actual implementation.

Conducted EMI compliance is based on a single frequency measurement at the mains input of a power converter, using a line impedance stabilisation network (LISN). A measurement method based on a new probe is proposed with which the sources and propagation of noise can be measured. The characteristics of the probe are compatible with the LISN. The method adds time and frequency measurements within the converter circuit, to the standard LISN measurement. This added measurement flexibility assists in the identification of the noisy switching transients. Attenuation is added in the probe as a means to contain the power dissipation in the 50 /spl Omega/ instrument input impedance. The working of the EMI probe is illustrated with some practical measurements.

This paper elaborates settings and modification of the operating characteristic of adaptive distance relays which protect a transmission line between two terminals. Operating characteristic should have such shape to satisfy all conditions in the power system. However it is known that there is no combination of characteristics which can satisfy all possible conditions. So the only solution is modification of the operating characteristic. Solution of this problem involves two types of neural networks, multilayered perceptron and the self-organizing neural network, the so called Kohonen network. Here the authors consider a two-terminal transmission line, confirm that fault resistance and location of faults can produce erroneous relay function and finally suggest ways to ensure the generation of the correct signal for relay operation. With the simple simulation, the authors present the advantages of the particular models and the credibility of the developed models.
