A batch microfabrication of a self-cleaning,ultradurable electrochemical sensor employing a BDD film for the online monitoring of free chlorine in tap water

Free chlorine is one of the key water quality parameters in tap ***,a free chlorine sensor with the characteristics of batch processing,durability,antibiofouling/antiorganic passivation and in situ monitoring of free chlorine in tap water continues to be a challenging *** this paper,a novel silicon-based electrochemical sensor for free chlorine that can self-clean and be mass produced via microfabrication technique/MEMS(Micro-Electro-Mechanical System)is proposed.A liquid-conjugated Ag/AgCI reference electrode is fabricated,and electrochemically stable BDD/Pt is employed as the working/counter electrode to verify the effectiveness of the as-fabricated sensor for free chlorine *** sensor demonstrates an acceptable limit of detection(0.056 mg/L)and desirable linearity(R^(2)=0.998).Particularly,at a potential of+2.5 V,hydroxyl radicals are generated on the BBD electrode by electrolyzing water,which then remove the organic matter attached to the surface of the sensor though an electrochemical digestion *** performance of the fouled sensor recovers from 50.2 to 94.1%compared with the initial state after self-cleaning for 30 *** addition,by employing the MEMS technique,favorable response consistency and high reproducibility(RSD<4.05%)are observed,offering the opportunity to mass produce the proposed sensor in the future.A desirable linear dependency between the pH,temperature,and flow rate and the detection of free chlorine is observed,ensuring the accuracy of the sensor with any hydrologic *** interesting sensing and selfcleaning behavior of the as-proposed sensor indicate that this study of the mass production of free chlorine sensors by MEMS is successful in developing a competitive device for the online monitoring of free chlorine in tap water.

Event detection and classification are crucial to power system stability. The Wide Area Measurement System (WAMS) technology helps in enhancing wide area situational awareness by providing useful synchronized information to the grid control center in order to accurately identify various power system events. This paper demonstrates the viability of using EWAMS (Egyptian Wide Area Measurement System) data as one of the evolving technologies of smart grid to identify extreme events within the Egyptian power grid. The proposed scheme is based on online synchronized measurements of wide-area monitoring devices known as Frequency Disturbance Recorders (FDRs) deployed at selected substations within the grid. The FDR measures the voltage, voltage angle, and frequency at the substation and streams the processed results to the Helwan University Host Server (HUHS). Each FDR is associated with a timestamp reference to the Global Positioning System (GPS) base. An EWAMS-based frequency disturbance detection algorithm based on the rate of frequency deviation is developed to identify varies types of events such as generator trip and load shedding. Based on proper thresholding on the frequency and rate of change of frequency of the Egyptian grid, different types of events have been captured in many locations during the supervision and monitoring the operation of the grid. EWAMS historical data is used to analyze a wide range of data pre-event, during and post-event for future enhancement of situational awareness as well as decision making. © 2022 IEEE.

Existing researchs on multi-robots task assignment focus on improving the task assignment efficiency without considering the task execution time and ignoring the overall task completion efficiency, which leads to its low computational efficiency in dynamic task assignment scenarios. In addition, the use of a centralized control structure requires high communication quality between robots. To address the above issues, we propose a distributed task assignment method for multiple robots based on dynamic auction rules. The method uses distributed control of robot swarms to share and dynamically update each other's task sets, employs dynamic auction rules for task bidding, adds links to adjust the task execution order, and considers the overall task completion efficiency. Finally, relevant experiments are designed, and the experimental results show that the algorithm is more efficient in terms of distribution and stability, balancing higher execution efficiency and lower motion cost. © 2023 IEEE.

Self-Decoupled Square Patch Antenna Arrays by Exciting and Using Mixed Electric/Magnetic Coupling Between Adjacent Radiators

This article presents and develops a simple decoupling method for the planar square patch antenna arrays by virtue of mixed electric and magnetic coupling property. Since the resonant modes of TM10 and TM01 are a pair of degenerate modes in the square patch radiator which are intrinsically orthogonal, a superposed mode of them can be generated to possess consistent field distributions along all the four sides of the patch by adjusting the feeding position. By employing such superposed mode, the mutual coupling between two horizontally adjacent patch elements will become identical to that between two vertical ones, indicating an expected possibility that the complex 2-D decoupling problem in a large-scale antenna patch array can be effectively facilitated and simplified to a 1-D one. Subsequently, metallic pins and connecting strip are properly loaded in each square patch resonator, such that appropriate electric and magnetic coupling strengths can be readily achieved and thus the mutual coupling can get highly decreased. A 1 × 2 antenna array with an edge-to-edge separation of 1 mm, which corresponding to 0.0117λ0, is firstly discussed, simulated, and fabricated. The measured results show that the isolation can be highly improved from 4 dB to 17 dB across the entire passband. In final, 1 × 3, 2 × 2, and 4 × 4 antenna array prototypes are constructed and studied for verification of the expansibility and feasibility of the proposed decoupling method to both linear and 2-D antenna arrays.

The rapid development and usage of digital technologies in modern intelligent systems and applications bring critical challenges on data security and privacy. It is essential to allow cross-organizational data sharing to achieve smart service provisioning, while preventing unauthorized access and data leak to ensure end users' efficient and secure collaborations. Federated Learning (FL) offers a promising pathway to enable innovative collaboration across multiple organizations. However, more stringent security policies are needed to ensure authenticity of participating entities, safeguard data during communication, and prevent malicious activities. In this paper, we propose a Decentralized Federated Graph Learning (FGL) with Lightweight Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) model, named DFGL-LZTA, to provide context-aware security with dynamic defense policy update, while maintaining computational and communication efficiency in resource-constrained environments, for highly distributed and heterogeneous systems in next-generation networking. Specifically, with a re-designed lightweight ZTA, which leverages adaptive privacy preservation and reputation-based aggregation together to tackle multi-level security threats (e.g., data-level, model-level, and identity-level attacks), a Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) based Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) agent is introduced to enable the real-time and adaptive security policy update and optimization based on contextual features. A hierarchical Graph Attention Network (GAT) mechanism is then improved and applied to facilitate the dynamic subgraph learning in local training with a layer-wise architecture, while a so-called sparse global aggregation scheme is developed to balance the communication efficiency and model robustness in a P2P manner. Reinforcement learning(RL) has roots in dynamic programming and it is called adaptive/approximate dynamic programming(ADP) within the control community. This paper reviews recent developments in ADP along with RL and its applications to various advanced control fields. First, the background of the development of ADP is described, emphasizing the significance of regulation and tracking control problems. Some effective offline and online algorithms for ADP/adaptive critic control are displayed, where the main results towards discrete-time systems and continuous-time systems are surveyed, ***, the research progress on adaptive critic control based on the event-triggered framework and under uncertain environment is discussed, respectively, where event-based design, robust stabilization, and game design are reviewed. Moreover, the extensions of ADP for addressing control problems under complex environment attract enormous attention. The ADP architecture is revisited under the perspective of data-driven and RL frameworks,showing how they promote ADP formulation ***, several typical control applications with respect to RL and ADP are summarized, particularly in the fields of wastewater treatment processes and power systems, followed by some general prospects for future research. Overall, the comprehensive survey on ADP and RL for advanced control applications has d emonstrated its remarkable potential within the artificial intelligence era. In addition, it also plays a vital role in promoting environmental protection and industrial intelligence.
