In the last two decades,motor operation monitoring tools have become a necessity,and many studies focus on the detection and diagnosis of motor electrical ***,at present,a core obstacle that prevents the direct comparison of such classification techniques is the lack of a standard database that can be used as a *** view of this,we offer here a public experimental data-set that has beendesigned specifically for the comparison of synchronous motor electrical fault *** data-set comprises five types of motor electrical faults:open phase between inverter and motor;short circuit/leakage current between two phases;short circuit/leakage current in phase-to-neutral;rotor excitation voltage disconnection;and variation of rotor excitation *** addition,each fault has been recorded as a four-dimensional signal:three phase voltages;three phase currents;motor speed;and motor *** package includes two deep-learning reference classifiers that are based on a convolutional neural network(CNN)and long short term memory(LSTM).Due to the good performance of these classifiers,we suggest that they can be used by the community as benchmarks for the development of new and better motor electrical fault classification *** database and the reference classifiers are examined and insights regarding different combinations of features and lengths of recording points are *** developed code is available online,and is free to use.

In the literature,numerous techniques have been employed to decrease noise in medical image modalities,including X-Ray(XR),Ultrasonic(Us),Computed Tomography(CT),Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI),and Positron Emission Tomography(PET).These techniques are organized into two main classes:the Multiple Image(MI)and the Single Image(SI)*** the MI techniques,images usually obtained for the same area scanned from different points of view are used.A single image is used in the entire procedure in the SI *** denoising techniques can be carried out both in a transform or spatial *** paper is concerned with single-image noise reduction techniques because we deal with single medical *** most well-known spatial domain noise reduction techniques,including Gaussian filter,Kuan filter,Frost filter,Lee filter,Gabor filter,Median filter,Homomorphic filter,Speckle reducing anisotropic diffusion(SRAD),Nonlocal-Means(NL-Means),and Total Variation(TV),are ***,the transform domain noise reduction techniques,including wavelet-based and Curvelet-based techniques,and some hybridization techniques are ***,a deep(Convolutional Neural Network)CNN-based denoising model is proposed to eliminate Gaussian and Speckle noises in different medical image *** model utilizes the Batch Normalization(BN)and the ReLU as a basic *** a result,it attained a considerable improvement over the traditional *** previously mentioned techniques are evaluated and compared by calculating qualitative visual inspection and quantitative parameters like Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio(PSNR),Correlation Coefficient(Cr),and system complexity to determine the optimum denoising algorithm to be applied *** on the quality metrics,it is demonstrated that the proposed deep CNN-based denoising model is efficient and has superior denoising performance over the traditionaldenoising techniques.

Ge-based chalcogenide glass fibers exhibit a high damage threshold and exceptional water stability, making them an ideal material for transmitting Er: YAG laser beams. However, the problem of particle scattering in the current glass poses formidable challenge to the transmission of high-power Er: YAG lasers. In this study, we introduce what we believe to be a novel approach to mitigate internal scattering by employing a micron-scale filter in combination with a multi-stage dynamic distillation process, effectively extending the purity limits of Ge-CHG fibers. The loss of Ge-As-S glass has achieved a record of 0.1 dB/m by reducing the internal particle scattering. In addition, the Ge-As-S optical fiber prepared by the isolation extrusion method also exhibits excellent performance in the transmission of Er: YAG laser. The Ge-As-S fiber rod with a core diameter of approximately 750 µm can sustain a laser power of 13.43 W at wavelength of 2.94 µm, i.e., energy density of 684 J/cm2 under atmosphere surrounding. To enhance flexibility, the fiber rod was tapered to gradually reduce its diameter, achieving a core diameter of 300 µm at the narrow end. The flexible Ge-As-S fiber achieved a maximum power output of 4.1 W with an energy density of 580 J/cm2. To our knowledge, this is the first instance of a chalcogenide fiber handling Er: YAG laser power exceeding 5 W flexibly. Finally, we demonstrated the capability of the flexible optical fiber to transmit Er: YAG laser energy for biological tissue ablation, achieving a cutting depth of 3 mm. These results highlight the potential of Ge-As-S fibers as a promising platform for high-power mid-infrared laser transmission, with significant applications in minimally invasive surgery procedures. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

Being one essential part of the solutions we are developing to provide accessibility for blind persons, synthesized speech of mathematical content, although having evolved in naturalness in recent years, still keeps a characteristic of generating very long outputs, which makes it difficult for a person who uses a screen reader to memorize. Eye-gaze tracking has been useful for studying cognitive processes and student's effort in performing tasks therefore it seems attractive as a means to understand how people analyze, process, and break down extensive math expressions into smaller ones. This understanding can help to build a similar model of auditory rendering of MathML capable of avoiding cognitive overload. Therefore, we carried out an experiment to do a gaze-based analysis of reading and memorizing mathematical expressions. Our sample consisted of fourteen participants, and seven mathematical expressions were used in the experiment. The results showed that the computed complexity of the expressions and the average duration of eye-gaze fixations have a strong and significant relationship. Therefore, we conclude that the complexity variable must always be considered in the speech synthesis process of mathematical expressions. However, when considering why participants requested the repetition of an expression with not larger complexity during the memorization process, a tentative interpretation based on the number of MathML tree nodes and the computed complexity of the expressions was not enough to explain it, indicating that other factors need to be investigated. Although some answers to the research questions were not yet conclusive, we consider this research relevant because it points to directions for the work in order to minimize the cognitive processing and mental load of the synthesized speech rendering of mathematical expressions. © 2022 IEEE.

A discussion regarding the application of the hertz contact theory on biological samples in afm nanoindentation experiments

Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) Nanoindentation procedure regarding biological samples poses significant challenges with respect to the accuracy of the provided results. These challenges are related to the inhomogeneity of biological samples, various uncertainties in experimental methods and certain approximations regarding the theoretical analysis. The most commonly used theoretical model for data processing at the linear elastic regime regarding biological samples is the Hertz model. This paper focuses on the investigation of the resulting errors of the basic equation of the Hertz theory that depends on the ratio, indentation depth/indenter’s radius regarding the Young’s modulus calculation. Several examples in the literature that do not take into account the value of the ratio indentation depth/indenter’s radius are reported and the related errors are presented and discussed. In addition, an extended new equation is derived which takes into account the influence of the aforementioned ratio on the calculation of the Young’s modulus and can be easily used for calculations. Moreover, a rational explanation, regarding the extended differences of the Young’s modulus calculations using the same experimental results when these are processed using the Hertz model and the Oliver & Pharr analysis (which is the general model that applies for any axisymmetric indenter) is provided. In conclusion, the derived equation is further combined with equations which take into account the shape of the sample in order to provide a complete and reliable theoretical tool which can be generally applied in order to reduce the errors produced by the current methodology. © 2021 Bentham Science Publishers.

Many application from the bee colony health state monitoring could be efficiently solved using a computer vision techniques. One of such challenges is an efficient way for counting the number of incoming and outcoming bees, which could be used to further analyse many trends, such as the bee colony health state, blooming periods, or for investigating the effects of agricultural spraying. In this paper, we compare three methods for the automated bee counting over two own datasets. The best performing method is based on the ResNet-50 convolutional neural network classifier, which achieved accuracy of 87% over the BUT1 dataset and the accuracy of 93% over the BUT2 dataset.

A polarization-insensitive mode-order converting power splitter using a pixelated region is presented and investigated in this *** TE_(0)and TM_(0)modes are injected into the input port,they are converted into TE_(1)and TM_(1)modes,which evenly come out from the two output *** finite-difference time-domain method and direct-binary-search optimization algorithm are utilized to optimize structural parameters of the pixelated region to attain small insertion loss,low crosstalk,wide bandwidth,excellent power uniformity,polarization-insensitive property,and compact *** results reveal that the insertion loss,crosstalk,and power uniformity of the fabricated device at 1550 nm are 0.57,-19.67,and 0.094 d B in the case of TE polarization,while in the TM polarization,the relevant insertion loss,crosstalk,and power uniformity are 0.57,-19.40,and 0.11 d *** a wavelength range from 1520 to 1600 nm,for the fabricated device working at TE polarization,the insertion loss,crosstalk,and power uniformity are lower than 1.39,-17.64,and 0.14 *** the case of TM polarization,we achieved an insertion loss,crosstalk,and power uniformity less than 1.23,-17.62,and 0.14 dB.

In this letter, a novel approach to reduce mutual coupling (MC) of quad-port circularly polarized (CP) microstrip patch antenna (MPA) is proposed using a multi-mode concept. Firstly, the dual-port MPA with decoupling branch under mode1 and mode2 is theoretically studied. It proves that these two modes could be combined together to shift its electric-field null. As such, the decoupling branches are loaded on the radiator of the quad-port MPA so as to combine these dual modes. After that, the quadrature hybrid coupler (QHC) and LC network are successively connected to the feeding probes to widen its impedance matching and generate the dual-CP beams at quad-port. DC Microgrids are rapidly developing, driven by the increasing integration of renewable sources and dynamic loads. Their growing adoption in critical applications raises the need for operational safety and reliability, particularly under fault conditions. This paper presents a sensor fault-tolerant control (FTC) for DC-DC power converters in DC Microgrids designed to maintain resilient and reliable operation. The proposed FTC leverages a single Switching Unknown Input Observer (SW-UIO) at the bottom control level to estimate arbitrary sensor faults with a high accuracy (0.3% fault estimation error), allowing a real-time identification and precise control reconfiguration to accommodate sensor faults with minimal computational burden. The approach is validated under diverse conditions, including time-varying loads, complete sensor failure, noise abnormality, and simultaneous faults/failure, achieving a consistent fault accommodation of 1μs from fault occurrence to compensation. Real-time simulation has been performed in the OPAL-RT environment to assess the efficacy and superiority of the proposed sensor fault tolerant strategy in comparison to reference FTC strategies. © 2013 IEEE.

This paper presents a novel chaotic pseudo-random number generator (PRNG) architecture that integrates the XoShiRo128++ algorithm with a chaotic logistic map, combined with an XOR operation using a Linear Feedback Shift Register (LFSR). The hybrid PRNG harnesses the high statistical quality of XoShiRo128++ and the sensitivity of chaotic systems to initial conditions, producing robust and unpredictable sequences. This generator is applied to image encryption using the XOR operation, and its performance and security are thoroughly evaluated. The hardware implementation is carried out on a Zybo Z7 board from the Zynq-7000 family, a resource-constrained FPGA platform. The performance analysis encompasses FPGA resource utilization, timing efficiency, and image-based metrics such as entropy and pixel correlation. The results demonstrate that the proposed chaotic PRNG provides a secure and efficient encryption system, making it highly suitable for resource-limited environments and promising for lightweight cryptographic applications.
