Long range (LoRa) wireless networks have been widely proposed as a efficient wireless access networks for the battery-constrained Internet of Things (IoT) devices. In many practical search-and-rescue (SAR) operations, one challenging problem is finding the location of devices carried by a lost person. However, using a LoRa-based IoT network for SAR operations will have a limited coverage caused by high signal attenuation due to the terrestrial blockages especially in highly remote areas. To overcome this challenge, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as a flying LoRa gateway to transfer messages from ground LoRa nodes to the ground rescue station can be a promising solution. In this paper, an artificial intelligence-empowered SAR operation framework using UAV-assisted LoRa network for different unknown search environments is designed and implemented. The problem of the flying LoRa (FL) gateway control in the search-and-rescue system using the UAV-assisted LoRa network is modeled as a partially observable Markov decision process. Then, a deep meta-RL-based policy is proposed to control the FL gateway trajectory during SAR operation. For initialization of proposed deep meta-RL-based policy, first, a deep RL-based policy is designed to determine the adaptive FL gateway trajectory in a fixed search environment including a fixed radio geometry. Then, as a general solution, a deep meta-RL framework is used for SAR in any new and unknown environments to integrate the prior FL gateway experience with information collected from the other search environments and rapidly adapt the SAR policy model for SAR operation in a new environment. The proposed UAV-assisted LoRa network is then experimentally designed and implemented. This paper mainly discusses two kinds of coupled reaction-diffusion neural networks (CRNN) under topology attacks, that is, the cases with multistate couplings and with multiple spatial-diffusion couplings. On one hand, by adopting state feedback control scheme, the problem of the lag synchronization for the multistate coupled CRNN is addressed. Moreover, the influences of external disturbances for the lag synchronization of the CRNN with multistate couplings are also taken into consideration. On the other hand, several lag and lag H∞ synchronization conditions for CRNN with multiple spatial-diffusion couplings are derived under the help of the Kronecker product and the state feedback control method. Finally, two numerical examples are provided to verify the correctness of the derived criteria. © 2014 IEEE.

Point Cloud Data analysis has seen a major leap forward with the introduction of PointNet algorithms, revolutionizing how we process 3D environments. Yet, despite these advancements, key challenges remain, particularly in optimizing segment perturbations to influence model outcomes in a controlled and meaningful way. Traditional methods struggle to generate realistic and contextually appropriate perturbations, limiting their effectiveness in critical applications like autonomous systems and urban planning. This paper takes a bold step by integrating Large Language Models into the counterfactual reasoning process, unlocking a new level of automation and intelligence in segment perturbation. Our approach begins with semantic segmentation, after which LLMs intelligently select optimal replacement segments based on features such as class label, color, area, and height. By leveraging the reasoning capabilities of LLMs, we generate perturbations that are not only computationally efficient but also semantically meaningful. The proposed framework undergoes rigorous evaluation, combining human inspection of LLM-generated suggestions with quantitative analysis of semantic classification model performance across different LLM variants. By bridging the gap between geometric transformations and high-level semantic reasoning, this research redefines how we approach perturbation generation in Point Cloud Data analysis. The results pave the way for more interpretable, adaptable, and intelligent AI-driven solutions, bringing us closer to real-world applications where explainability and robustness are paramount. © 2013 IEEE.

With the rapid development of the mobile internet and the internet of things(IoT),the fifth generation(5G)mobile communication system is seeing explosive growth in data *** addition,low-frequency spectrum resources are becoming increasingly scarce and there is now an urgent need to switch to higher frequency *** wave(mmWave)technology has several outstanding features—it is one of the most well-known 5G technologies and has the capacity to fulfil many of the requirements of future wireless ***,it has an abundant resource spectrum,which can significantly increase the communication rate of a mobile communication *** such,it is now considered a key technology for future mobile *** communication technology also has a more open network architecture;it can deliver varied services and be applied in many *** contrast,traditional,all-digital precoding systems have the drawbacks of high computational complexity and higher power *** paper examines the implementation of a new hybrid precoding system that significantly reduces both calculational complexity and energy *** primary idea is to generate several sub-channels with equal gain by dividing the channel by the geometric mean decomposition(GMD).In this process,the objective function of the spectral efficiency is derived,then the basic tracking principle and least square(LS)techniques are deployed to design the proposed hybrid *** results show that the proposed algorithm significantly improves system performance and reduces computational complexity by more than 45%compared to traditional algorithms.

Increasingly available ultrastructural data from a continuously growing diversity of experimental conditions are driving new opportunities for fruitful neuroscientific hypotheses tested in intracellular compartments such as the nanoscale roles of, e.g., the mitochondria. Reliable morphological statistics are based on achieving highly accurate semantic segmentations of EM images. The state-of-the-art deep CNNs can be somewhat brittle;they tend to provide coarse and high-frequency-oscillatory solutions with discontinuities and false positives even for simple mitochondria segmentation. Historically, the current state-of-the-art in medical image segmentation would involve some variant of the encoder-decoder architecture, such as the U-Net architecture. The SAM does not perform as well, since it has not been explicitly trained for the task and does not demonstrate user-interactive, over one billion annotations mostly for natural images. However, the SAM may be applied to segment anything, including medical image segmentation challenging new datasets. This work is aimed at the difficult task of implementing domain adaptation in mitochondria segmentation within EM images obtained from various tissues and species, using deep learning. We do a systematic study to assess SAM's ability to perform segmentation in medical images, measure its performance on volumetric EM datasets, and show that it is powerful at segmenting instances even under challenging imaging conditions. We provide a fine-tuning SAM which can be naturally trained by SAM at an exemplary scale, benefiting from a diverse and large dataset over one million image masks in 11 modalities. This model would be able to perform precise segmentation for a wide range of targets under various imaging conditions, at the level of performance of specialized U-Net models, or even better. Alzheimer's disease (AD) represents a global health challenge, with an estimated 55 million people suffering from the non-curable disease across the world. While amyloid-beta plaques and tau neurofibrillary tangles in the brain define AD proteinopathy, it has become evident that diverse coding and non-coding regions of the genome may significantly contribute to AD neurodegeneration. The diversity of factors associated with AD pathogenesis, coupled with age-associated damage, suggests that a series of triggering events may be required to initiate AD. Since somatic mutations accumulate with aging, and aging is a major risk factor for AD, there is a great potential for somatic mutational events to drive disease. Indeed, recent data from the Gozes team/laboratories as well as other leading laboratories correlated the accumulation of somatic brain mutations with the progression of tauopathy. In this review, we lay the current perspectives on the principal genetic factors associated with AD and the potential causes, highlighting the contribution of somatic mutations to the pathogenesis of late onset Alzheimer's disease. The roles that artificial intelligence and big data can play in accelerating the progress of causal somatic mutation markers/biomarkers identification, and the associated drug discovery/repurposing, have been highlighted for future AD and other neurodegenerations, with the aim to bring hope for the vulnerable aging population.

A Knowledge Acquisition Method for Consumer Electronics Based on Triadic Hesitant Fuzzy Concept

With the growing intelligence and personalization of consumer electronic products, extracting effective information has become a key challenge in Consumer Electronics (CE). Triadic Concept Analysis (TCA), an important extension of Formal Concept Analysis (FCA), is widely applied but often struggles to handle the hesitant fuzzy characteristics in real-world data. To address this gap, we propose a Triadic Hesitant Fuzzy Concept (THFC) model. First, we introduce the concept of a triadic hesitant fuzzy background, integrating the fuzzy and hesitant nature of data in the CE environment. We propose a knowledge acquisition method based on THFC, which constructs a multi-granularity knowledge space with a dynamic adjustment mechanism. This method captures subtle distinctions between different types of information and their hierarchical structures in the context of CE, offering significant support for knowledge discovery and decision-making in complex environments. Building on this, we design a variable-precision hybrid similarity measurement (VP-HSM) method to extract core, adjunct, and edge concepts, thus providing more precise and structured knowledge for data analysis and decision-making in CE. Experimental results on publicly available datasets show that the proposed method significantly improves classification accuracy and stability, effectively handling hesitant fuzzy data and improving the accuracy of concept extraction. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Third-Order Sum-Difference Expansion: An Array Extension Strategy based on Third-Order Cumulants

Recently, numerous design schemes for high-order sparse linear arrays (SLAs) have been introduced for underdetermined direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation based on high-order cumulants, which utilize both difference co-array (DCA) and sum co-array (SCA) of the generator arrays to construct a large consecutive virtual co-array, achieving a significant increase in the number of uniform degrees-of-freedom (uDOFs). However, this processing places high demands on the generator arrays, which require both long consecutive DCA and SCA. In addition, the robustness of the derived array is prone to deterioration, due to reduced redundancy between DCA and SCA. To that end, in this paper, an alternative design scheme for third-order SLAs termed third-order sum-difference expansion (TO-SDE) is proposed, which no longer separates DCA and SCA by a shift factor, but considers them as a unified whole. In so doing, most desirable characteristics of the generator array are preserved, such as the size of consecutive virtual co-array, resistance to mutual coupling, and robustness against sensor failures, while the mapping from the sum-difference co-array based second-order SLAs to the third-order is achieved. By selecting the appropriate generator array, excellent DOA estimation performance can be attained in various scenarios. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Fairness in Face Presentation Attack Detection

Face recognition (FR) algorithms have been proven to exhibit discriminatory behaviors against certain demographic and non-demographic groups, raising ethical and legal concerns regarding their deployment in real-world scenarios. Despite the growing number of fairness studies in FR, the fairness of face presentation attack detection (PAD) has been overlooked, mainly due to the lack of appropriately annotated data. To avoid and mitigate the potential negative impact of such behavior, it is essential to assess the fairness in face PAD and develop fair PAD models. To enable fairness analysis in face PAD, we present a Combined Attribute Annotated PAD Dataset (CAAD-PAD), offering seven human-annotated attribute labels. Then, we comprehensively analyze the fairness of PAD and its relation to the nature of the training data and the Operational Decision Threshold Assignment (ODTA) through a set of face PAD solutions. Additionally, we propose a novel metric, the Accuracy Balanced Fairness (ABF), that jointly represents both the PAD fairness and the absolute PAD performance. The experimental results pointed out that female and faces with occluding features (e.g. eyeglasses, beard, etc.) are relatively less protected than male and non-occlusion groups by all PAD solutions. To alleviate this observed unfairness, we propose a plug-and-play data augmentation method, FairSWAP, to disrupt the identity/semantic information and encourage models to mine the attack clues. The extensive experimental results indicate that FairSWAP leads to better-performing and fairer face PADs in 10 out of 12 investigated cases. CAAD-PAD is publicly available 1 © 2022, CC BY-NC-SA.

Short linewidth light lasers are essential for a wide range of applications, including quantum computing, spectroscopy, and sensing. Stimulated Brillouin scattering is an intriguing method for achieving extremely coherent light laser output. The demonstration of an unstable pulsed Brillouin erbium fiber laser (BFL) operating at kHz is shown here. The BFL works at 1550.1 nm, which is 0.09 nm higher than the Brillouin pump wavelength since the dispersion compensating fiber was pumped over the 24.77 mW threshold. It has an extreme power of 0.7 dBm, a side-mode suppression ratio of 29 dB, and a pump power of 59.12 mW at 980 nm. Due to the intrinsic instability in relaxation oscillation, which generates the nonlinear self-pulsing mechanism in the BEFL cavity, the BEFL produced a pulse train running at 200.9 kHz with a 24.77 mW pump. The pulse frequency was raised to 3.02 MHz. The pump power has been increased to 59.12 mW. Yet, as the pump power was raised further, more than one pulse was produced. This is the first example of generating kHz pulses in a BFL cavity. The laser system is straightforward, small, and all-fiber. These are the attempts of experimental work to realize the BFL with Q-switched multi-wavelength output using a specific length of DCF to generate the pulses.
