User-Centric Multi-Static Sensing for Joint User and Target Tracking in Mobile Wireless Systems

This paper presents a novel user-centric sensing framework, where a user equipment (UE) acts as the receiver of a multi-static radar sensing system and utilizes the communication signals emitted by base stations (BSs) and scattered by the targets for joint UE and target tracking. Specifically, we propose to locate the UE using the least squares (LS) estimator with a one-dimensional (1D) search and then develop a two-dimensional (2D) target identification approach using the estimated target location and motion of each path based on mean-shift clustering. After the motion parameters of the UE and targets are estimated, a joint UE and target tracking algorithm is designed based on the analysis of the localization and motion estimation errors. Extensive simulations corroborate the ability of our approach to estimate target parameters and cluster and identify targets. Specifically, the average estimation error of the target number is only 0.18. The speed and heading accuracy of the UE and targets is [0.121 m/s, 3.879°] and [0.199 m/s, 4.669°], respectively. In joint UE and target tracking, our scheme outperforms the benchmarks of the extended Kalman filter (EKF) and belief propagation (BP) by at least 33.16% and 10.29%, respectively, even though the EKF and BP require a-priori knowledge of the motion parameters and target identification. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

This article aims to demonstrate a signal compression method for the wireless invasive neural recording system. A compression system with spike detection for neural signals is proposed. The input signal is firstly detected in the spike detection part and then the intercepted spike segments are sent to the compression part. A compressed sensing technique is applied in the compression part, and the Minimum Euclidean or Manhattan Distance Cluster-based (MDC) matrix is adopted for compressing neural spike segments. During simulation, the compression rate can surpass 99% and the signal-to-noise distortion ratio is around 37 dB. Moreover, the proposed method is also contrasted with the direct compression of input neural signals. When the input neural signal is directly compressed, the compression ratio is 98%, and the signal-to-noise ratio distortion rate is about 28 dB. By employing spike detection and utilizing this MDC matrix, it becomes possible to compress non-sparse spike segments in the time domain, resulting in a higher compression rate and improved reconstruction performance. © 2023 IEEE.

Currently, electric vehicle (EV) battery platforms typically vary in standard, commonly rated at either 800V or 400V. Conventional wireless charging system (WCS) are limited to single voltage level charging, necessitating wireless communication or additional complex circuits for achieving multi-voltage level charging, which can compromise operational stability and overall efficiency. This article proposes a WCS based on the concept of bipolar partial power conversion. By incorporating reversing series switches on the secondary of the DC/DC converter, regulation voltage control enables switching between positive and negative polarity to supply power to either 800V or 400V battery for EV. This approach ensures high power transmission efficiency, without relying on wireless communication, thereby ensuring stable charging process. Furthermore, this article also presents various combinations of bipolar topologies that can be selectively employed based on application requirements. Finally, simulation results validate the feasibility of the proposed 3.2KW WCS.

Linearization of AC power flow is crucial for simplifying the analysis and optimization of power systems, enabling more efficient and scalable computation for network operation and control. In this paper, a Neumann series expansion based linear bus injection model (NS-BIM) of three-phase AC power flow of active distribution network (ADN) is proposed. First, the full-nonlinear three-phase BIM is built based on AC power flow equations. Then, the mathematical derivation of the proposed NS-BIM is provided. Moreover, the approximation error analysis is given which guarantee the robustness of the NS-BIM. Finally, numerical case studies on different benchmark ADN systems are carried out to verify the accuracy of the NS-BIM in comparing with other representative linear BIMs.

The hybrid active power filter (HAPF) emerges as a cost-effective remedy for power quality challenges in medium voltage power systems. The success of HAPF, crucially, hinges on the efficacy of its current control mechanism. This paper introduces a novel approach by proposing a deterministic policy gradient based reinforcement learning (DPG-RL) as the current control strategy for HAPF. In stark contrast to conventional model-based control methods, the DPG-RL leverages artificial intelligence (AI) technology, rendering it model-free and capable of dynamically seeking the optimal control policy to enhance HAPF performance. A notable advantage lies in its significantly lower computational burden during each sampling period, distinguishing it from other contemporary AI-aided control methods. The paper outlines a systematic design process, encompassing feature selection and reward function design, to formulate the RL problem. The comprehensive design procedure of DPG-RL is then detailed. Simulation results are subsequently presented, validating the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed DPG-RL across diverse operational scenarios.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is one of the top causes of global mortality. It does not give any symptoms at the early stage, and most patients are diagnosed during periods of CHD exacerbation. If CHD reaches a hard condition, it will require advanced and long-term treatments. Moreover, the early detection of CHD is not easy;doctors make a decision based on many kinds of clinical tests. In recent years, machine learning-based approaches are widely used in the healthcare domain to predict disease. In this study, we have proposed a deep neural network (DNN) model with an attention layer that gives importance weight to the input of the output layer for the CHD risk prediction model. The proposed method has been evaluated by predicting CHD risk in the Korean population and compared with typical machine learning algorithms. As a result, the proposed attention-based DNN improved the performance of DNN and outperformed regular machine learning classifiers. The performance measurements include accuracy, precision, recall, f1-score, and AUC score reached 82.7818%, 86.6499%, 77.2704%, 81.6631%, and 82.5802%, respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2021.

This correspondence investigates the novel fluid antenna system (FAS) technology, combining with reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) for wireless communications, where a base station (BS) communicates with a FAS-enabled user with the assistance of a RIS. To analyze this technology, we derive the outage probability based on the block-diagonal matrix approximation (BDMA) model. With this, we obtain the upper bound, lower bound, and asymptotic approximation of the outage probability to gain more insights. Moreover, we design the phase shift matrix of the RIS in order to minimize the system outage probability. Simulation results confirm the accuracy of our approximations and that the proposed schemes outperform benchmarks significantly. © 2024, CC BY.

Due to the capacitor being a critical component that is prone to failure in switch mode power supplies (SMPS), it is critical to identify and monitor the electrical parameters, namely the equivalent series resistance (ESR) and capacitance (C). This research proposes an online identification approach for capacitor ESR and C for continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) DC-DC buck converters. The calculation model is developed from the ripple component of capacitor voltage. By sampling the ripple component of capacitor voltage at the switch on or switch off moment, and capturing the first zero crossing time of the ripple component of capacitor voltage. This identification method does not use any current sensor and is effective for CCM and DCM buck converters working under different circuit parameters. The implementation of the proposed identification method is provided, and the details of implementation are provided. The simulation results verify the proposed identification method is effeteness.

The CO-OFDM system plays a critical role in managing the effects of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in optical communications, providing opportunities to optimize performance, durability and polarization state capability. DSP digital compensation is crucial to maintain signal quality, reducing error vector magnitude (EVM) and binary error rate (BER). DSP optimizes transmission, adapts to changing conditions, compensates for chromatic dispersion (CD) and PMD without physical intervention, reducing costs and extending network reach. Using modulations such as 16-QAM and 4-QPSK at 100 Gbps, it is advantageous for data centers and inter-satellite communications. A Python-based DSP model has been proposed to mitigate these effects, significantly improving signal integrity and system performance with a binary error rate (BER)∼10-4 © 2024 Walter de Gruyter GmbH.
