This work presents a comparative study between metal-insulator-metal (MIM) and metal-insulator-insulator-metal (MIIM) based optical log spiral rectennas for infrared IR energy harvesting at 10.6 μm. We have considered the spiral antenna terminals as the electrodes of the rectifying diode and we have integrated the insulators between the two arms (electrodes) to enhance the harvested energy with the proposed nano-antennas. The study presents a comparison between the performance (E-field, I/V, responsivity, and resistivity) of the two proposed rectennas.

Programmable optical devices provide performance enhancement and flexibility to spatial multiplexing systems enabling transmission of tributaries in high-order eigenmodes of spatially-diverse transmission media, like multimode fibre (MMF). Wavefront shaping with spatial light modulators (SLMs) facilitates scalability of the transmission media by allowing for channel diagonalization and quasi-single-input single-output operation. Programmable mode multiplexing configurations like multi-plane light conversion (MPLC) utilise the SLM and offer the potential to simultaneously launch an arbitrary subset of spatial tributaries in any N-mode MMF. Such programmable optical processor would enable the throughput of space-division multiplexing (SDM) systems to be progressively increased by addressing a growing number of tributaries over one MMF and in this way meet a growing traffic demand – similarly to the wavelength-division multiplexing evolution path. Conventionally, MPLC phasemasks are calculated using the wavefront matching algorithm (WMA). However, this method does not exploit the full potential of programmable mode multiplexers. We show, that computer-generated hologram algorithms like direct search enable significant improvement compared to the traditional WMA-approach. Such gains are enabled by tailored cost functions with dynamic constraints concerning insertion loss as well as mode extinction ratio. Aiming at the hybrid flow shop scheduling problem (HFSP), a multi-objective optimization scheduling model is established with the objectives of minimizing makespan, energy consumption and total load, and an improved non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (INSGA-II) is proposed to solve the problem. Combining the problem characteristics of task sequencing and equipment selection in the production process of hybrid flow shop, a double-layer coding rule combining the job sequence code (JSC) and machine allocation code (MAC) is adopted. Different crossover and mutation operators are used for JSC and MAC respectively to improve the global search capability of the algorithm. Aiming at the poor local search capability of NSGA-II, neighborhood search is introduced to improve the quality of population. Finally, the optimal parameters combination of the algorithm is determined by orthogonal experiment, and the feasibility and effectiveness of INSGA-II for solving the multi-objective scheduling problem in hybrid flow shop are verified by simulation experiments. © 2022 ACM.

Representation learning for post-mapping (PM) netlists is a critical challenge in Electronic Design Automation (EDA), driven by the diverse and complex nature of modern circuit designs. Existing approaches focus on intermediate representations like And-Inverter Graphs (AIGs), limiting their applicability to post-synthesis stages. We introduce DeepCell, a multiview representation learning framework that integrates structural and functional insights from both PM netlists and AIGs to learn rich, generalizable embeddings. At its core, DeepCell employs the novel Mask Circuit Modeling (MCM) mechanism, which refines PM netlist representations in a self-supervised manner using pretrained AIG encoders. DeepCell sets a new benchmark in PM netlist representation, outperforming existing methods in predictive accuracy and reconstruction fidelity. To validate its efficacy, we apply DeepCell to functional engineering Change Orders (ECO), achieving significant reductions in patch generation costs and runtime while improving patch quality. Beamforming design has been widely investigated for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems with full-duplex (FD) sensing and half-duplex (HD) communication, where the base station (BS) transmits and receives radar sensing signals simultaneously while the integrated communication operates in either downlink or uplink. To achieve higher spectral efficiency, in this paper, we extend existing ISAC beamforming design to a general case by considering the FD capability for both radar and communication. Specifically, we consider an FD ISAC system, where the BS performs target detection and communicates with multiple downlink users and uplink users reusing the same time and frequency resources. We jointly optimize the downlink dual-functional transmit signal and the uplink receive beamformers at the BS and the transmit power at the uplink users. The problems are formulated under two criteria: power consumption minimization and sum rate maximization. The downlink and uplink transmissions are tightly coupled due to both the desired target echo and the undesired interference received at the BS, making the problems challenging. To handle these issues in both cases, we first determine the optimal receive beamformers in closed forms with respect to the BS transmit beamforming and the user transmit power. Subsequently, we invoke these results to obtain equivalent optimization problems and propose iterative algorithms to solve them. In addition, we consider a special case under the power minimization criterion and propose an alternative low complexity design. Numerical results demonstrate that the optimized FD communication-based ISAC brings tremendous improvements in terms of both power efficiency and spectral efficiency compared to the conventional ISAC with HD communication. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

Phase change material Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST) has recently emerged as a highly promising candidate for reconfigurable photonic devices owing to its non-volatility, high optical contrast, and fast transition speed between the amorphous and crystalline states. We propose a novel nonvolatile 1×2 optical switching and multi-level memory based on a GST slot-assisted microring resonator (MRR). GST slot is embedded in silicon microring resonator to enhance the light-matter interaction. The device demonstrates a low insertion loss of 0.7dB in the amorphous state at the drop port and 0.1dB in the crystalline state at the through port. The high extinction ratios of around 28.32dB and 22.71dB can be achieved at the drop and through ports, respectively. A multi-level photonic memory was proposed by combining MRR and a U-bend feedback loop embedded with GST slot. Free spectral range can be expanded from 21.6nm to 43.2nm by modifying the length of the feedback loop instead of the microring diameter. The minimum read contrast of 19% among each level can be achieved by changing two GST states individually for a reliable 4-level memory. The 2-level memory demonstrates a read contrast of 90% which is around 4.3 times higher than the traditional device. Our all-optical approach represents a significant step towards the development of low-loss and reliable photonic memory for neuromorphic computing and artificial intelligence. © 2022, The Authors. Currently, the technology of high-performance variable speed drives without mechanical sensors is widely used in the industrial environment. This preference arises from the exorbitant costs and fragility associated with mechanical sensors. This investigation aims to establish, implement, and empirically validate a Luenberger Observer for wheel torque within an electric propulsion framework that employs induction motors. The proposed observer structure focuses on the complete dynamic model of an induction motor. Concerning the rotor fluxes, they are estimated using the electrical model. On the other hand, the torque is observed using the mechanical model. A real-time implementation was performed on a DSpace 1104 board designed for a 1.5 kW induction motor to verify the proposed observer's effectiveness. The experiment results show that the proposed method exhibits satisfactory performance, affirming its effectiveness and robustness and giving valuable insights into its practical applicability.

Irrigation in arid regions and during periods of in-adequate rainfall is essential for the growth of agricultural crops. The irrigation process entails supplying water to agricultural areas in a meticulously calculated manner. This ensures that the soil receives an appropriate amount of water to maintain the necessary moisture content for optimal plant growth. Most irrigation in tree fruit orchards is traditionally applied based on the grower's experience or simple observations, which may result in either over- or under-irrigation. Smart irrigation technology operates on the basis of an automated scheduling program and an automatic electronic operating system that utilizes sensors to determine the water needs of cultivated plants based on agricultural seasons and crop types. The objective of this paper was to develop an advanced system for managing and supervising irrigation processes, utilizing fuzzy logic and wireless sensor networks (WSN). The comprehensive control of the proposed system was achieved through the integration of Arduino Uno. This system aims to determine the optimal timing for irrigation and the precise watering dosage that will enhance optimal crop response while ensuring judicious use of resources. The system also enables the display of results using an Android application.

This work extends Bayesian regression as an adaptive that augmented by deep neural networks (the probabilistic encoder) to obtain the posterior probability distributions of the regression coefficients. We use variational inference to obtain the conditional distribution over the regression coefficients, which are the latent space given the observed data. Therefore, our model can recognize local conditional probability distribution of the regression coefficients for each observation as well as it can measure the uncertainty of the model locally. Experimental results on the benchmark datasets prove that our Bayesian Meta Regression (BMR) significantly outperforms baseline regression techniques and precisely measures the model uncertainty for each observation. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2021.

Resonant Bonding Dependence of the Phase Change Characteristics for Tunable Photonic Devices in the Mid-Infrared Region

Phase change material (PCM) has gained great traction for widely used in tunable photonic devices due to the nonvolatility, excellent scalability, high speed, and tunable properties. However, the unclear source of the phase-change characteristics limits the PCM for true device-level integrated circuits with high configuration and multifunctional attributes, especially in the mid-infrared (MIR) region. In this paper, the inherent dependences of phase-change characteristics on both the microstructure and bonding environments of the (VO 2 ) x (Sb 2 Se) 100-x film are disclosed for the low-loss and nonvolatile tunable photonic devices. (VO 2 ) x (Sb 2 Se) 100-x films possess a tendency that the crystallization temperature, 10-years data-retention temperature and optical band gap of (VO 2 ) x (Sb 2 Se) 100-x films increase with increase of VO 2 content. The improvement in thermal stability of (VO 2 ) x (Sb 2 Se) 100-x is ascribed to the complex bonding environment consisting of Se-V and Sb-V bonds with the large bonding enthalpy which disturbs the crystallization. The symbolic value for the contribution of resonant bonding ζ is derived by the real part Ε 1 and imaginary part Ε 2 of dielectric functions with the wavelength ranging from 1.7 mm to 25 mm. With increasing VO 2 content, a large structural distortion in the VO 2 -rich phase leads to a reduction in the level of resonant bonding, which accounts for a decrease in the optical refractive index contrast. These results shed light on intrinsic material science and engineering to the ongoing search for other phase-change materials for tunable photonic devices in the MIR region. © 2022, The Authors.
