Robust Adaptive Control Allocation Schemes for Overactuated Underwater Vehicles under Actuator Faults

In this paper, we investigate the fault-tolerant path following control problem for an overactuated underwater vehicle subject to input saturation and rate of change constraints, actuator faults and parametric (mass and inertia) uncertainty. A robust adaptive control allocation strategy is proposed capable to reconfigure the distribution of the control effort among the remaining healthy actuators in the case some of them failed. The online estimation of actuators' effectiveness and bias fault parameters is integrated with the control allocation and reconfiguration unit. The robustness and performance of the scheme are shown by evaluating the results of simulations and pool experiments of different path-following control problems using overactuated underwater vehicles.

Resonant Bonding Dependence of the Phase Change Characteristics for Tunable Photonic Devices in the Mid-Infrared Region

Phase change material (PCM) has gained great traction for widely used in tunable photonic devices due to the nonvolatility, excellent scalability, high speed, and tunable properties. However, the unclear source of the phase-change characteristics limits the PCM for true device-level integrated circuits with high configuration and multifunctional attributes, especially in the mid-infrared (MIR) region. In this paper, the inherent dependences of phase-change characteristics on both the microstructure and bonding environments of the (VO 2 ) x (Sb 2 Se) 100-x film are disclosed for the low-loss and nonvolatile tunable photonic devices. (VO 2 ) x (Sb 2 Se) 100-x films possess a tendency that the crystallization temperature, 10-years data-retention temperature and optical band gap of (VO 2 ) x (Sb 2 Se) 100-x films increase with increase of VO 2 content. The improvement in thermal stability of (VO 2 ) x (Sb 2 Se) 100-x is ascribed to the complex bonding environment consisting of Se-V and Sb-V bonds with the large bonding enthalpy which disturbs the crystallization. The symbolic value for the contribution of resonant bonding ζ is derived by the real part Ε 1 and imaginary part Ε 2 of dielectric functions with the wavelength ranging from 1.7 mm to 25 mm. With increasing VO 2 content, a large structural distortion in the VO 2 -rich phase leads to a reduction in the level of resonant bonding, which accounts for a decrease in the optical refractive index contrast. These results shed light on intrinsic material science and engineering to the ongoing search for other phase-change materials for tunable photonic devices in the MIR region. © 2022, The Authors. Electric Vehicles (EVs) are anticipated to play a pivotal role in addressing global climate change objectives and offering a solution for improved fuel efficiency. However, enhancing the performance, energy efficiency and cost remain the major challenges for EV technology. Identifying the operating points of the EVs motor drive system is crucial for optimizing its performance. Sensorless electric motor control for EVs is one of the promising research areas for cost reduction and performance improvement. This work’s primary objective is to develop, implement and validate experimentally a torque estimator based on Luenberger observer on an EV driven by an open-end winding induction motor (OEWIM) fed by two inverters. The proposed observer structure uses the complete OEWIM mathematical model. The rotor fluxes are estimated using the electrical model whilst the torque is observed using the mechanical model. This observer has been implemented using a board signified for a 1.5 kW OEWIM. The obtained experimental findings demonstrate the efficacy of the method put forward.

Design of SH Aging Sensor for Real Time and Application in Sensing Network

One of the most important issues in deep nanoscale regime CMOS circuits is related to the time-dependent performance degradation caused by negative bias temperature instability (NBTI). The integration of online aging sensor is becoming attractive methodologies in monitoring performance degradation of circuit. The sensor can generate a warning signal, early warning of the occurrence of aging faults, to avoid unnecessary losses. To accurately capture the aging fault, a real-time aging sensor is proposed with mirror extraction setup and hold (SH) time method. The proposed aging sensor, which is on the basis of the standard flip-flop (FF), consists of an additional edge detector circuit, a detection window generator circuit, and an output warning circuit. Having the adaptive characteristic of detection window, aging sensor is able to adjust its NBTI effects and improve the stability. Also, the sensing network supports multiple paths online detection from many SH sensors for IP chip applications. Finally, the Camellia IP layout is inserted with 20 aging sensors and is implemented under 65-nm CMOS process. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of area, power, and performance overheads. Compared with other state of the art, hardware efficiency is increased by 46%, and energy is decreased by about 37%. © 2003-2010 IEEE Canada.

This paper investigates the results of simulations devoted to the acoustic field variation caused by different boundary conditions applied to the backscattering of the acoustic wave in both low and moderately low frequency ranges. The goal is to analyse the object behaviour and the detection ability of the 2D acoustic field approximations when the simulation data of the scattered sound field is available. The plane waves are backscattered by a dummy human body, positioned in a cabin which has a defined size. The dummy human body is created by using clusters of finite and disjointed but tangent circular cylinders. Each cylinder is a scatterer that emulates various boundary conditions i.e., the scatterers can be sound-soft (Dirichlet boundary condition) and sound-hard scatterers (Neumann boundary condition). The cylinders are filled with biological tissue (i.e., fat). The exterior scattering problem is solved using the preconditioned Krylov subspace iterative solvers (GMRES), as a computationally cheaper alternative. We use the hypothesis that the mass density of the obstacle and wave speed in the obstacle are both constant. During the simulation experiments, we neglected the interactions among scatterers. A frequency range from 100 Hz to 1000 Hz is analysed. Both the Sound Pressure Level (SPL) and Radar Cross Section (RCS) are used to analyse the numerical simulation of the sound field. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

According to Noether's theorem, symmetries in a physical system are intertwined with conserved quantities. These symmetries often determine the system topology, which is made ever more complex with increased dimensionality. Quasicrystals have neither translational nor global rotational symmetry, yet they intrinsically inhabit a higher-dimensional space in which symmetry resurfaces. Here, we discovered topological charge vectors in four dimensions (4D) that govern the real-space topology of 2D quasicrystals and reveal their inherent conservation laws. We demonstrate control over the topology in pentagonal plasmonic quasilattices, mapped by both phase-resolved and time-domain near-field microscopy, showing that their temporal evolution continuously tunes the 2D projections of their distinct 4D topologies. Our work provides a route to experimentally probe the thermodynamic properties of quasicrystals and topological physics in 4D and above.

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have seen interesting applications in the agricultural sectors over the last few decades. Researchers have demonstrated that DL-based solutions are more accurate than previous classical techniques. Currently, weed control has received increased attention due to its potential to increase agricultural productivity. The weeds occlusion, variation in weather conditions, complex scenes background, and failures to transfer learning opened up a new world for researchers in this domain. This work aims to develop a fusion technique based on transfer learning to identify and localize more than 20 types of weeds in Morocco. Our strategy uses a data merging technique to address the needs of the actual agricultural field. In this regard, the you only look once (YOLOv5) framework was trained on a dynamic dataset with interventions, which results in a reasonable mean average precision (mAP) exceeding 96.38% and a precision of 97.95% with a recall value of 93.25% on the validation set. Therefore, the selection of the dataset demonstrates the robustness of this research as it contains images collected in real agricultural environments with a specific range of standards, which robots can use to effectively control weeds in real environments.

The Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) has a flexible structure, extending the number of voltage levels on the AC side. This structure has many advantages such as low switching frequency, and a smaller number of transistor valves. Therefore, the MMC converter makes it easy to apply control algorithms and is widely applied to high-voltage power grids. This paper presents the control method of an MMC converter on the AC side, with 10 Sub-modules (SM) in each phase to generate 21 voltage levels. The process is performed by the current control method based on Finite Control Set - Model Predictive Control (FCS-MPC). With the advantage of fast response, optimizing the converter's working process by predicting the working states of the converter, according to the model, the FCS-MPC control algorithm has been used in this model. The results of the proposed method are proven by using Matlab/Simulink software. The results have shown the requirements of the DC/AC converter such as sinusoidal current, and voltage with 21 voltages. © 2023 IEEE.

In this study, we investigate a novel "dimerized" dielectric metasurface featuring dual-mode resonances governed by symmetry-protected bound states in the continuum (BICs). The metasurface design offers advantages such as insensitivity to incident light polarization and exceptionally high quality factors exceeding 105 for low and moderate structural deviations from the monoatomic array. By introducing mastered perturbations in the metasurface via the Brillouin zone folding method, without reducing symmetry, we explore the behavior of symmetry-protected BIC states and their polarization-independent responses. Through numerical simulations and analysis, we demonstrate the superiority of Q factors for specific BIC-based resonances, leading to precise control over interaction behaviors and light engineering in both near and far fields. Our findings contribute to the understanding of BIC resonance interactions and offer insights into the design of high-performance sensing applications and meta-devices with enhanced functionalities. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.
