A systematic review of serious games used for rehabilitation of individuals with Parkinson’s disease

Purpose: This study consists of a systematic review that aims to identify and evaluate the scenario of the use of serious games in the rehabilitation of individuals with Parkinson’s disease. Methods: Web searches were conducted on Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, Bireme, ScienceDirect, IEEE Digital Library, ACM Digital Library, and Google Scholar databases, using the keywords "serious game" and "Parkinson". The following variables were evaluated: type of game, interface, device, protocol used for rehabilitation, method used for assessing the effectiveness of the game, symptoms treated, and application in real patients. A total of 169 studies were identified and 38 were selected. Results: The majority of studies propose the development of exergames, used virtual reality as the interface technology, used Leap Motion and Microsoft Kinect to capture body movements, included a doctor or therapist to accompany the serious games development, used more than one tool to evaluate the game and patient outcomes, treated bradykinesia and gait impairments, and took into account experiments with patients. Conclusion: The results suggest that it is important that the solutions developed have high methodological rigor and that they extend the instrument to a clinical practice. Serious games for individuals with Parkinson’s disease must be customizable, simple, and smart. Enterprises are increasingly adopting Software-Defined Networking (SDN) for advanced infrastructure management, cost reduction, and adaptation to technological challenges. Cloud-based SDN controllers play a pivotal role in ensuring flexibility, security, and scalability. The transition from a single-controller to a multi-controller paradigm in cloud networks not only improves security and availability but also reinforces the overall resilience of SDN. Our scientific study aims to propose a novel approach for deploying SDN networks and to introduce a queueing model for this proposed concept. The work focuses on modeling SDN networks using Markovian stochastic processes, taking into consideration the availability criterion through the multiplicity of SDN controllers at the control layer, specifically utilizing queuing theory. The proposed model brings improvement and optimization compared to existing ones. The evaluation of Quality of Service (QoS), based on response time measurements, has demonstrated the efficiency of the model. Additionally, observing the model through the conducted experiments has led us to conclude that scalability is ensured concerning the multiplicity of controllers. Our model has successfully addressed the multi-criteria constraint and ensured an optimal combination that incorporates cloud concepts, QoS, and multi-controllers. © 2024 IEEE.

This article focuses on reactive power compensation and impedance matching of square-wave voltages. Square-wave voltage is the operating voltage in electromagnetic method (EM) exploration. The characteristics of a square-wave voltage are very different from those of a sinusoidal voltage in the power grid. Although some papers proposed impedance matching converters for square-wave voltages, they solved the high dc voltage requirement problem. The problem is caused by square-wave voltage having multiple and variable spectral components. An impedance-matching converter with an injection circuit (IMFR) for square-wave voltage is proposed. IMFR is composed of a thyristor-controlled inductor and capacitor (TCLC) part and injection circuit coupling active H-bridge part. TCLC can be controlled to resonate at the highest energy fundamental frequency for damping the largest part of the dc voltage requirement. The use of TCLC offsets the varying fundamental frequency demand on the dc voltage. First, this article gives a joint design and optimization approach for the lowest dc voltage requirement. Second, a synergistic control method of proposed IMFR is provided implementing IMFR. Third, two groups of comparative experiments show that the proposed IMFR can enlarge the current by 11.8%-38.5%. The effect on the current increase is 4.4%-7.9% higher than using only the H-bridge of the previous method when they are operated with the same dc voltage. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Centroid-based clustering validity: method and application to quantification of optimal cluster-data space

Evaluation of clustering validity to set up an optimal cluster-data space (CDS) is a vital task in many fields related to data mining. Almost existing clustering validity indexes (CVIs) lack stability due to being too sensitive to noise, especially impulse noise. Here, we (1) propose a new CVI named DzI (Dzung Index) or fRisk2 using analysis of fuzzy-set-based accumulated risk degree (FARD), and (2) present a new algorithm named fRisk2-bA for determining the optimal number of data clusters. It is a method of evaluation of the centroid-based fuzzy clustering validity. In essence, the fRisk2 still focuses on enhancing the data compression in each cluster and expanding the separation between cluster centroids. However, these features are exploited indirectly through FARD. As a result, the proposed method not only can avoid the difficulties of the traditional ones relying on the compression and separation properties directly but also can distill better local and global attributes in the data distribution to estimate the CDS more fully. Along with the proved theory basis, surveys, including the ones based on noisy datasets from measurements, showed the compared advantages of fRisk2 as follows. (1) The accuracy, stability, and convergence of the fRisk2 are outstanding. Today, system identification plays a pivotal role in control science and offering a myriad of applications. This paper places its focus on the identification of actuator models within real-world delta robots for informing controller design. Two identification methods, namely NN-ARX and ARMAX, have been employed to extract the dynamic characteristics of the robot actuators, resulting in dynamic models of these integral components being derived. These dynamic models have been utilized in simulations for controller design, and due to the disparities in the identification models, distinct controllers have been realized. Subsequently, these controllers have been practically implemented on delta robots, and their performances have been subjected to a comprehensive comparative analysis. The results demonstrate that controllers integrating the identified actuator models outperformed those designed without the incorporation of the identification models. In practice, the implementation of controllers based on NN-ARX yielded the most favorable results among all the tested controllers. This research not only underscores the importance of accurate actuator models in control system design but also highlights the superior performance of neural network-based controllers in real-world robotic applications. In particular, the practical results of NN-ARX-based controllers were able to achieve significantly lower RMSE of 2.3562, 1.9531, and 2.1185 for the three motors, respectively, as opposed to the 4.1369, 3.0125, and 3.0363 achieved by the ARMAX-based controllers. © 2023 IEEE.

Due to the rapid development of power electronics and new energy generation, conventional transformers cannot meet the higher requirements of intelligent grids due to a lack of controllability. While solid-state transformers (SSTs) are currently costly, making it impossible for them to be used widely in power networks. For this reason, a compromise solution of a hybrid transformer (HT) combining the traditional line frequency transformer (LFT) with power electronic devices has attracted more and more attention. Based on existing HT research, topologies of HT are classified according to installation position and connection type of power electronic devices. Rough theoretical analyses were carried out from the point of view of voltage compensation, current compensation, and power flow control. A review of HT topology in recent years is also included. © 2023 IEEE.

To increase the power density of voltage source converters (VSC) usually use parallel structures. However, parallel VSC will easily introduce circulating current, which can cause a power efficiency decline. This paper gives a review of the circulating current and the solutions of it. Through the analysis of the principle of circulating current generation and the detail of the solutions, this paper gives an overview of the current research stage of circulating current. The technology can be divided into hardware solutions and software solutions are then analyzed and evaluated. © 2023 IEEE.

In this letter, a triple-mode wideband filtering antenna with planar configuration is presented. The designed antenna has a single substrate layer, which consists of one half-mode circular patch resonator, one half-mode rectangular patch resonator, and one rectangular SIW cavity, and it is fed through the conventional coaxial probe. On the basis of the field analysis, these three types of resonators are compactly integrated without disturbing the resonant properties of their dominant modes. Given this, three resonant modes of half-TM11, half-TM10, and TE11 are well generated, so as to form a widened operating band. Meanwhile, four radiation nulls are produced from far-field radiation cancellation with the increased radiation boundaries. For validation, a prototype antenna with the center frequency of 2.8 GHz is designed and fabricated. The measured results indicate that the proposed antenna achieves an improved fractional bandwidth of 15.7% under three in-band resonances. Besides, four radiation nulls created at 2.32, 3.22, 3.49, and 3.89 GHz in stopband effectively enhance the out-of-band suppression level. Moreover, low profile of 0.037λ0 is also implemented. © 2002-2011 IEEE.
