Predicting the value of railroad track geometry is needed to reduce the cost and time of rail condition measurements that have been carried out periodically every three months by railroad operators in Indonesia (PT Kereta Api Indonesia/PT KAI). Four track geometry parameters - vertical profile, horizontal alignment, twist, and gauge - are the reference measurements that will be mapped with alternative measurement results using accelerometers installed on regular trains (in-service trains). In this paper, eight prediction algorithms from the machine learning model are applied to map the vertical profile with 73 kilometers of measurement data in the Jakarta to Padalarang railroad segment, precisely on the Jatinegara-Cikampek measuring trip conducted from April 2019 to June 2022. The evaluation performance of the prediction results has been measured with the GadientBoosting Regressor algorithm is the best algorithm with MSE = 0.791, R2 = 0.507 and feature importance on the Train speed and Az attributes. The research can be continued to detect the correlation of three other track geometry parameters referring to the dataset of rail geometry condition measurement results through accelerometers on regular trains (in-service trains). © 2023 IEEE.

Sobolev Space Regularised Pre Density Models

We propose a new approach to non-parametric density estimation that is based on regularizing a Sobolev norm of the density. This method is statistically consistent, and makes the inductive bias of the model clear and interpretable. While there is no closed analytic form for the associated kernel, we show that one can approximate it using sampling. The optimization problem needed to determine the density is non-convex, and standard gradient methods do not perform well. However, we show that with an appropriate initialization and using natural gradients, one can obtain well performing solutions. Finally, while the approach provides pre-densities (i.e. not necessarily integrating to 1), which prevents the use of log-likelihood for cross validation, we show that one can instead adapt Fisher divergence based score matching methods for this task. We evaluate the resulting method on the comprehensive recent anomaly detection benchmark suite, ADBench, and find that it ranks second best, among more than 15 algorithms. © 2023, CC BY.

ON THE POSTERIOR DISTRIBUTION IN DENOISING: APPLICATION TO UNCERTAINTY QUANTIFICATION

Denoisers play a central role in many applications, from noise suppression in low-grade imaging sensors, to empowering score-based generative models. The latter category of methods makes use of Tweedie’s formula, which links the posterior mean in Gaussian denoising (i.e., the minimum MSE denoiser) with the score of the data distribution. Here, we derive a fundamental relation between the higher-order central moments of the posterior distribution, and the higher-order derivatives of the posterior mean. We harness this result for uncertainty quantification of pre-trained denoisers. Particularly, we show how to efficiently compute the principal components of the posterior distribution for any desired region of an image, as well as to approximate the full marginal distribution along those (or any other) one-dimensional directions. Our method is fast and memory-efficient, as it does not explicitly compute or store the high-order moment tensors and it requires no training or fine tuning of the denoiser. Plant diseases caused by various pathogens, such as fungi, bacteria, and viruses, lead to significant reductions in crop yield and quality. Early detection of these diseases is critical for preventing their spread and optimizing crop yield. Traditional methods of disease detection, while effective, often involve invasive or time-consuming procedures that may not provide real-time insights. This study investigates the use of Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomography (SS-OCT) for non-destructive, high-resolution imaging to identify morphological abnormalities in fruit specimens affected by diseases. The research focuses on differentiating healthy regions, healthy boundaries, infected boundaries, and fully infected regions in apples. Using a 1310 nm center wavelength laser, the SS-OCT system captured detailed cross-sectional images of fruit tissue, revealing microstructural changes associated with disease progression. A qualitative assessment of the two-dimensional (2D) OCT images highlighted distinct layers in healthy tissues, noticeable structural deformities, and the merging of microstructural layers in the boundary and infected regions. Quantitative depth-profile analysis of axial-direction A-scan profiles further demonstrated the reduction and merging of intensity peaks correlating with tissue abnormalities in infected fruit specimens. These findings underscore the potential of SS-OCT as an effective tool for early disease detection in agricultural products, providing a means for timely intervention and optimized postharvest management. © 2024 IEEE.

Automation is more important now. This article focuses on automating chicken farms using mobile communication devices and wireless sensor networks. Chicken is the world's most popular food because it contains more protein, less fat, and less cholesterol than other poultry. Chicken's nutrition is another benefit. This project utilizes the Internet of Things to monitor and adjust chicken farm environmental conditions. Temperature, moisture, water level, ammonia gas, and waste level were considered. This research aimed to improve chicken farm chick growth. The individual also monitors chicken behavior and feeding. Another usage for the sensor module is water level management and monitoring. If all sensors are connected to the microcontroller, all sensor data may be gathered. After that, a Wi-Fi module uploads the data to a website. A computer or mobile device connected to the internet allows the poultry farm owner to examine its interior surroundings. This informs the owner on agricultural conditions. This system will maintain temperature, humidity, and water level without human intervention using a DC motor, ventilation window, and co-exhaust fan. This will be done without human intervention. Devices will activate as needed when threshold values are attained. Our method allows semi-automated chicken product production and bird behavior monitoring. This allows us to deliver nutritious chicken meat while reducing bird killing. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a simplified fractal image compression algorithm, which is implemented on a block-by-block basis. This algorithm achieves a Compression Ratio (CR) of up to 10 with a Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) as high as 35 dB. Hence, it is very appropriate for the new applications of underwater communication. The idea of the proposed algorithm is based on the segmentation of the image, first, into blocks to setup reference blocks. The image is then decomposed again into block ranges, and a search process is carried out to find the reference blocks with the best match. The transmitted or stored values, after compression, are the reference block values and the indices of the reference block that achieves the best match. If there is no match, the average value of the block range is transmitted or stored instead. The effect of the spiral architecture instead of square block decomposition is studied. A comparison between different algorithms, including the conventional square search, the proposed simplified fractal compression algorithm and the standard JPEG compression algorithm, is introduced. We applied the types of fractal compression on a video sequence. In addition, the effect of using the fractal image compression algorithms in transform domain is investigated. The image is transferred firstly to a transform domain. The Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) are used. After transformation takes place, the fractal algorithm is applied. A comparison between three fractal algorithms, namely conventional square, spiral, and simplified fractal compression, is presented. The comparison is repeated in the two cases of transformation. The DWT is used also in this paper to increase the CR of the block domain pool. We decompose the block domain by wavelet decomposition to two levels. Wideband millimeter-wave (mm-wave) coverage is essential for the high-speed, low-latency communication required in next-generation 5G New Radio (NR) Internet of Things (IoT) systems. This study develops a T-shaped four-element, highly compact wideband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna covering the mm-wave n260 (37.40 GHz) and n259 (42.43.5 GHz) bands for 5G NR IoT applications. The antenna is designed on a 0.76 mm-thick Rogers RO4350B substrate with overall dimensions of 28 28 mm2 (3.3 × 3.3 λ2). For design simplicity, a T-shaped patch backed by a full-ground plane is devised to serve as the radiator of a single-element antenna with the dimensions of (Ls × Ws) mm2, optimized through a systematic three-step design process for improved performance. Moreover, the design has evolved into a 4× 4 orthogonal MIMO configuration, achieving improved gain, polarization diversity, and higher data rates, with each element exhibiting wideband characteristics across 11.5 GHz (36.5 to 48 GHz) with high gains of 9.8 dBi and 6.6 dBi at n260 and n259 5G mm-wave bands, respectively. Additionally, arc-shaped complementary split-ring resonators (CSRR) are integrated into the ground plane to significantly enhance the gain while effectively reducing mutual coupling, remarkably achieving a maximum gain of 9.8 dBi. Furthermore, the MIMO antenna exhibits an envelope correlation coefficient of less than 0.10 between any two MIMO elements encountering the required condition of © 2014 IEEE.

This paper summarizes the technical activities of a three-year-long IEEE Task Force (TF) on State Estimation (SE) for Integrated Energy Systems (IES). It presents the formal definition and characteristics of IES, along with the comprehensive discussion on Electric Power Systems (EPS) model, and static and dynamic models associated with heating and natural gas systems. The paper also identifies the barriers of SE for IES, such as estimation modeling, observability analysis, and measurement requirements, together with addressing multi-scale dynamics. An extensive comparative analysis between Integrated Energy Systems-State Estimation (IES-SE) and more established Electric Power System-State Estimation (EPS-SE) is presented. The paper also provides future research needs and directions related to IES-SE. © 1969-2012 IEEE.

A micro-grid (MG) is regarded as a localized small-scale power supply system designed for providing electrical power for a remote community, which may be connected to the grid. The paper considers six participants' sites in a remote community. The peak energy consumption patterns for these participants must be different to ensure coalition for mutual benefits and this would facilitate efficient utilization of energy resources. This community concerned may include rural communities having participants such as schools, housing estates, industrial sites, etc. The propose approach would ensure that many participants and their needs are captured and optimized profit of the participants would ensure mutual benefits. In islanded MG, most of the cost/profit distributions in energy trading problems are done based on the self-interest of the participants. Some consider a fair (acceptable or reasonable) cost/profit distribution using the cooperative game theory (CGT) based on the Nash bargaining solution (NBS). However, this method leads to a high degree of dissatisfaction. To improve the fairness and mutual benefits for all MG participants, a new flexible approach is developed. Specifically, CGT which uses a generalized NBS (GNBS) has been proposed, which relaxes certain axiom of the NBS to ensure that fairness of game theory is achieved. The approach allows the profit of the MG participants to be shared using a mechanism based on the negotiation power (i.e. weighted fairness) so that the MG would attain an improved economic outcome. Empirical evaluation of the approach indicates that overall profits using CGT is higher when compared with an independent approach. Moreover, different in negotiation power is achieved in which higher profit is allocated to any participant based on participant's mutual agreement in achieving fair profit distribution.
