Botnets are the bane of modern Information Security. They have been used to carry out major attacks on websites like ESPN, Vogue (Methbot), and e-commerce websites like Alibaba and Amazon. Hence the detection of a Botnet is very crucial and is being heavily researched by cybersecurity experts. This study aims to shed light on a machine learning and graph-based approach for Botnet detection devising our own approach for P2P Botnet discovery. Our Graph-Based Approach includes the identification of suspicious nodes by analyzing their synchronous activities and their inter-nodal connections. An extension of the method proposed in this study is devising a smart grid system. With our Graph and Machine Learning approach, a grid system which supports the bidirectional flow of information and is also self-correcting is proposed. © 2022 IEEE.

Dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine (DTP-PMSM) has received extensive interests due to its inherent fault-tolerant capability. However, conventional single-virtual-vector-based predictive current control (SVV-PCC) for DTP-PMSM with open-phase fault (OPF) presents poor steady-state performance and high computational burden. To address these issues, a multi-virtual-vector-based PCC (MVV-PCC) for DTP-PMSM with OPF is proposed in this paper. Therein, two virtual vectors and one zero vector with optimal duty cycles are determined in each sampling period to improve the steady-state performance. A simplification strategy for selecting the optimal virtual vectors and calculating the optimal duty cycles is established to reduce the computational burden in digital implementation. Extensive comparisons are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed MVV-PCC scheme. © 2023 IEEE.

Silicon carbide ceramics possess excellent properties such as high hardness, wear resistance, high temperature resistance, and corrosion resistance, making them widely used in the aerospace industry. However, due to their high hardness and brittleness, traditional processing methods such as grinding and milling tend to generate surface debris, cracks, and tool wear during the machining of silicon carbide ceramics. Laser processing, as a non-contact processing method, possesses technological advantages. This paper carried out the laser grooving process for silicon carbide ceramics based on ultrasonic vibration assisted rotating beam with nanosecond laser. The effects of single pulse energy and ultrasonic vibration on the depth and width of the micro-groove and the three-dimensional morphology of the deposited layer were investigated. The results show that when the single pulse energy is less than 700 µJ, the depth and width of the micro-groove increase with the increase of the laser single pulse energy, and the depth and width of the micro-groove tend to stabilize when the single pulse energy reaches 700 µJ. When the ultrasonic frequency is 20 kHz, the width of the micro-groove becomes wider with the increase of the ultrasonic amplitude, and the depth of the micro-groove decreases with the increase of the ultrasonic amplitude, this is because the ultrasonic vibration direction is perpendicular to the scanning speed direction, which makes the laser beam interact with the material in a wider area, thus generating an energy dispersion effect. Comparing the conditions with and without ultrasonic assistance, it is found that the thickness of the deposited layer in the micro-groove with the use of ultrasonic vibration processing is smaller than that in the micro-groove without ultrasonic vibration processing, and the thickness of the deposited layer decreases with the increase of the ultrasonic amplitude. This paper presents the simulation of a proportional integral derivative control system that is used to control the electric drive system of a formula student hybrid vehicle consisting of a permanent magnet DC motor coupled with the internal combustion engine through a chain drive in a Parallel Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)-type drive configuration. With the least amount of delay or overshoot and by regulating the voltage input to the electric vehicle’s motor, the PID algorithm provides the actual speed to the target speed. Further, the model was used to tune the proportional integral derivative controller. Some essential system parameters were predetermined, while others were idealized in models. It was validated and assessed that the MATLAB/Simulink model was stable. The precise values of proportional, integral, and derivative based on the transfer function-based tuner were then determined using it. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Iris segmentation and localization in unconstrained environments are challenging due to long distances, illumination variations, limited user cooperation, and moving subjects. Some existing methods in the literature have somehow mitigated some of the above-mentioned issues. In this paper, motivated by these weaknesses, we propose a framework that employs a deep neural network-based approach to iris segmentation and localization. The proposed framework is based on a U-Net architecture initialized with a pre-trained MobileNetV2 model. In addition, to better study the detectors in iris recognition scenarios, we have collected 1000 images. The provided dataset (KartalOl) is made publicly available for the research community. In the proposed framework, to have better generalization, we fine-tuned the MobileNetV2 model on the provided data for NIR-ISL 2021 from the CASIA-Iris-Asia, CASIA-Iris-M1, and CASIA-Iris-Africa and our dataset. Likewise, data augmentation techniques are applied on images. We chose the binarization threshold for the binary masks by iterating over the images in the provided dataset. The proposed framework is trained and tested in CASIA-Iris-Asia, CASIA-Iris-M1, and CASIA-Iris-Africa, along with the KartalOl dataset. The experimental results highlight that our method surpasses state-of-the-art methods on mobile-based benchmarks. The growth in penetration of renewable energy sources leads to reduction in the number of grid-tied dis-patchable synchronous generators. Since the contributions of non-dispatchable, renewable energy-based generators to both grid inertia and grid frequency controllability are significantly small, it becomes important to secure sufficient operational margins in the operation scheduling phase. This paper presents a framework that integrates constraints for the inertial response and the primary frequency control to the unit commitment and economic load dispatch (UC-ELD) problem. The authors' proposal contributes cooperative operations of dispatchable and non-dispatchable generators in the levels of inertial and primary responses although the UC-ELD is a framework for operations in longer period. Through numerical simulations and discussion on their results, the validity of the authors' proposal is verified. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents a hypothesis regarding the existence of time fused in spacetime, assuming that time possesses the properties of both a particle and a field. This duality is referred to as the field-particle of time (FPT). The analysis shows that when the FPT moves through matter, it causes time dilation. The FPT is also a significant element that appears in relativistic kinetic energy (KE = (γ - 1) · mc²). Accelerating matter to near the speed of light requires relativistic energy approaching infinity, which corresponds to the relativistic kinetic energy. Meanwhile, the potential energy (PE = mc²) from the rest mass remains constant. Then, the mass-energy equation can be rearranged in terms of PE and KE, as shown in E = (1 + (γ - 1)) · mc². The relativistic energy of the FPT also directly affects the gravitational attraction of matter. It transfers energy to each other through spacetime. The analysis demonstrates that the gravitational force is inversely proportional to the distance squared, following Newton’s law of gravity, and it varies with the relative velocity of matter. The relationship equation between relative time and the gravitational constant indicates that a higher intensity of the gravitational field leads to a slower reference time for matter, in accordance with the general theory of relativity. A thought experiment presents a comparison of two atomic clocks placed in different locations. The first one is placed in a room temperature, around 25°C, on the surface of the Earth, and the second one is placed in high-density areas. The analysis, considering the presence of the FPT, shows that the reference time slows down in high-density areas. Therefore, the second clock must be noticeably slower than the first one, indicating the existence of the FPT passing through both atomic clocks at different speeds.

The identification capacity region of the compound broadcast channel is determined under an average error criterion, where the sender has no channel state information. We give single-letter identification capacity formulas for discrete channels and multiple-input multiple-output Gaussian channels under an average input constraint. The capacity theorems apply to general discrete memoryless broadcast channels. This is in contrast to the transmission setting, where the capacity is only known for special cases, notably the degraded broadcast channel and the multipleinput multiple-output broadcast channel with private messages. Furthermore, the identification capacity region of the compound multiple-input multiple-output broadcast channel can be larger than the transmission capacity region. This is a departure from the single-user behavior of identification, since the identification capacity of a single-user channel equals the transmission capacity. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

This study introduces an innovative AI-Driven Decision Support System (DSS) for revolutionizing healthcare diagnostics, emphasizing the use of Explainable AI (XAI) to enhance transparency and trust in medical decision-making. The proposed system integrates machine learning and deep learning algorithms to analyze and interpret complex medical data, providing clinicians with clear, understandable insights that support diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes. The system was evaluated on a dataset of 25,000 patient records across multiple diagnostic domains, including cardiology, oncology, and radiology. Key performance metrics showed a significant improvement in diagnostic precision and explain ability. The model achieved an accuracy of 94.8% in diagnosing cardiac conditions, with an explanation accuracy of 92.1%, measured by how well the XAI techniques correlated with expert evaluations. For oncology cases, the system demonstrated an 87.5% reduction in false positives, while maintaining an overall accuracy of 93.2%. In terms of clinician trust, surveys indicated a 35% increase in confidence when using the XAI-based system compared to traditional black-box models. Additionally, the time to generate diagnostic explanations was reduced by 40%, improving clinical workflow and decision-making efficiency. These results underscore the transformative potential of integrating XAI into healthcare decision support systems, providing not only accurate predictions but also interpretable insights that enhance trust and usability in medical diagnostics. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a super-Twisting algorithm-based sliding mode control (STA-SMC) method for a single-stage on-board charger (OBC). Constant current (CC) and constant voltage (CV) charging modes are determined by a simple algorithm that works depending on the battery's state of charge (SOC) level. Based on the mode detection algorithm, a proportional-integral (PI) controller is used to generate the amplitude of the inductor current reference that is identical to the grid current's amplitude. The inductor current is controlled by the proposed STA-SMC method. Simulation studies are carried out through the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The results reveal that the proposed control method successfully regulates battery voltage or current and grid current under dynamic and steady-state conditions. Furthermore, the proposed method exhibits a smooth transition from CC to CV modes and vice versa. Also, the spectrums of grid current show that the total harmonic distortion in grid current is under the recognized limits by the standards. © 2023 IEEE.
