The problem of driving a formation from an initial to a target configuration while under the effect of external disturbances is studied. Additional restrictions on agent sensing as well as inter-agent communication must be satisfied. We present a leader-follower solution that relies on a simple uncertainty model to trigger surfacing events. These events are then used to update the control signal, for which two different, provably correct, control strategies are proposed. Finally, we show how the surfacing events can be used to characterize the disturbance set. Numerical examples on relevant scenarios are also provided.

In this paper we show how the decentralized estimation of the spectrum of a network can be used to infer its controllability and observability properties. The proposed approach is applied to networked multi-agent systems whose local interaction rule is based on Laplacian feedback. We provide a decentralized necessary and sufficient condition for observability and controllability based on the estimated eigenvalues. Furthermore we show an example of application of the proposed method and show that the estimated spectrum can also be envisioned as a tool for decentralized formation identification.

A high-resolution PDMS-based conformable microelectrode array (cMEA) with integrated electronics is implemented. The cMEA is incorporated into individual layers of a nanofiber-based nerve regeneration scaffold to create a novel regenerative electrode scaffold (RES) capable of establishing a stable, high-resolution peripheral nerve interface. The device features a compact size with an enhanced signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), as required by implantation applications. Preliminary characterizations of the device are performed using in vitro experimentations, including impedance spectroscopy and neural culturing.

Roadside Units (RSUs) aided distributed certificate service is a promising approach for ensuring security and privacy preservation in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs), where the existence of RSUs is critical for such a scheme in order to allow On-Board Units (OBUs) to update their short-time certificates on time. However, RSUs may only be deployed at some critical points along roads due to the cost. In this paper, we propose a cost-efficient RSUs deployment scheme to guarantee that OBUs at any place could communicate with RSUs in certain driving time (DT), and the extra overhead time (ET) of adjusting routes to update short-time certificate is small. Based on a real-world map, several deployment examples are given illustrating the influence of key factors in RSUs deployment such as wireless communication range, DT and ET. Furthermore, extensive analysis demonstrates that our RSUs deployment scheme can meet the required design goals.

The network model bases upon the energy hub concept, which was developed by the Vision of Future Energy Networks” (VoFEN) research group at ETH Zurich in the last years. Keynote of the concept is a combined optimization of different energy carrier. Synergetic effects are expected to give unusual optimization results, when allowing any possible energy conversion inside a specific area that constitute the hub. Costs for the energy consumption or production are generally used as the optimization criteria. Any technologies for conversion and storage are integrated in a coupling matrix, which links input and output. This paper deals with an extension to the optimization part by merging the network flows with the pricing of grid costs. The impact of network flow pricing is at first derived from theory, then translated into the energy hub concept and finally illustrated in an example.

In this paper, a technique based on Independent Component Analysis (ICA) and morphological attribute filters is presented for the classification of high geometrical resolution hyperspectral images. The ICA is computed instead of the conventional principal component analysis (PCA) in order to better model the information in the hyperspectral image. The spatial characteristics of the objects in the scene are modeled by different multi-level attribute filters. Moreover, a method for increasing the robustness of the analysis based on a decision fusion strategy is proposed. A hyperspectral high resolution image acquired over the city of Pavia (Italy) was considered in the experiments.
