Ransomware attacks pose a significant threat to critical infrastructures,demanding robust detection *** study introduces a hybrid model that combines vision transformer(ViT)and one-dimensional convolutional neural network(1DCNN)architectures to enhance ransomware detection *** common challenges in ransomware detection,particularly dataset class imbalance,the synthetic minority oversampling technique(SMOTE)is employed to generate synthetic samples for minority class,thereby improving detection *** integration of ViT and 1DCNN through feature fusion enables the model to capture both global contextual and local sequential features,resulting in comprehensive ransomware *** on the UNSW-NB15 dataset,the proposed ViT-1DCNN model achieved 98%detection accuracy with precision,recall,and F1-score metrics surpassing conventional *** approach not only reduces false positives and negatives but also offers scalability and robustness for real-world cybersecurity *** results demonstrate the model’s potential as an effective tool for proactive ransomware detection,especially in environments where evolving threats require adaptable and high-accuracy solutions.

Stress tolerance plays a vital role in ensuring the effectiveness of piezoresistive sensing films used in flexible pressure ***,existing methods for enhancing stress tolerance employ dome-shaped,wrinkle-shaped,and pyramidal-shaped microstructures in intricate molding and demolding processes,which introduce significant fabrication challenges and limit the sensing *** address these shortcomings,this paper presents periodic microslits in a sensing film made of multiwalled carbon nanotubes and polydimethylsiloxane to realize ultrahigh stress tolerance with a theoretical maximum of 2.477 MPa and a sensitivity of 18.092 kPa−*** periodic microslits permit extensive deformation under high pressure(e.g.,400 kPa)to widen the detection ***,the periodic microslits also enhance the sensitivity based on simultaneously exhibiting multiple synapses within the sensing interface and between the periodic sensing *** proposed solution is verified by experiments using sensors based on the microslit strategy for wind direction detection,robot movement sensing,and human health *** these experiments,vehicle load detection is achieved for ultrahigh pressure sensing under an ultrahigh pressure of over 400 kPa and a ratio of the contact area to the total area of 32.74%.The results indicate that the proposed microslit strategy can achieve ultrahigh stress tolerance while simplifying the fabrication complexity of preparing microstructure sensing films.

The onset of Industry 4.0 is rapidly transforming the manufacturing world through the integration of cloud computing, machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and universal network connectivity, resulting in performance optimization and increased productivity. Digital Twins (DT) are one such transformational technology that leverages software systems to replicate physical process behavior, and representing it in a digital environment. This paper aims to explore the use of photogrammetry (which is the process of reconstructing physical objects into virtual 3D models using photographs) and 3D Scanning techniques to create accurate visual representation of the 'Physical Process', to interact with the ML/AI based behavior models. To achieve this, we have used a readily available consumer device, the iPhone 15 Pro, which features stereo vision capabilities, to capture the depth of an Industry 4.0 system. By processing these images using 3D scanning tools, we created a raw 3D model for 3D modeling and rendering software for the creation of a DT model. The paper highlights the reliability of this method by measuring the error rate in between the ground truth (measurements done manually using a tape measure) and the final 3D model created using this method. The overall mean error is 4.97 % and the overall standard deviation error is 5.54% between the ground truth measurements and their photogrammetry counterparts. The results from this work indicate that photogrammetry using consumer-grade devices can be an efficient and cost-efficient approach to creating DTs for smart manufacturing, while the approaches flexibility allows for iterative improvements of the models over time. © 2024 IEEE.

Neural networks have become a leading model in modern machine learning, able to model even the most complex data. For them to be properly trained, however, a lot of computational resources are required. With the carbon footprint of ever-growing adoption of neural networks in mind, an approach to reduce the required training resources would be very welcome. We designed a new training effort reduction method based on the calculation of area under the normalized loss curve and assessed it on the electricity consumption forecasting problem with the recurrent neural networks. The results show that the proposed method was able to considerably reduce the amount of computational resources, while maintaining the predictive performance, and thus contributing towards the Green AI. © 2024 IEEE.

The medical field is incredibly stressful for both specialists and patients, especially when dealing with life threatening cases. Brain tumor identification is one of the most challenging tasks even for experts in the field. Fortunately, the evolution of machine learning techniques and their flexibility to be integrated into many different fields, including tumor identification and classification has greatly simplified this task. For the physicians to accurately diagnose a patient, they must first have a lot of knowledge and years of experience in addition to going through many cases. Machine learning simplifies this process when it comes to learning and using this knowledge to decide without human intervention. If the data fed to the model is accurate, the decisions made will be more accurate. In this paper, an automated machine learning model is developed to identify brain tumors. Different datasets are utilized in the developed model. The accuracy achieved by the model lies between 60% and 70%. Another dataset is then used, and the model shows an accuracy of 99%, precision of 83%, F1 score of 77% and recall of 75%. © 2024 IEEE.

Predictive maintenance (PdM) is critical in reducing downtime and minimizing operational costs in industrial settings. This study introduces a novel framework for vibration-based failure prediction by combining Seasonal and Trend Decomposition using LOESS (STL) and deep learning models, specifically Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks. The framework processes multivariate vibration data collected from two-roller mills in a tire manufacturing facility. STL is employed to decompose the data into trend, seasonal, and residual components, enabling noise reduction and enhanced feature extraction. These components serve as inputs to LSTM models for predicting machine condition scores. A comprehensive analysis compared five deep learning architectures: LSTM, Bidirectional LSTM, Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), Deeper LSTM, and Conv1D LSTM. The GRU and Conv1D LSTM demonstrated superior performance across multiple vibration axes, achieving low errors and high R2 values. Results highlight the effectiveness of STL in preparing vibration data for sequential learning and the robust predictive capabilities of deep learning models. This study provides a scalable approach to PdM, enhancing reliability and efficiency in industrial machinery maintenance. Future work includes extending the framework to other machinery types and real-time monitoring systems. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper proposed Infrared-Augmented CycleGAN (IRACycle GAN), a novel extension of the traditional CycleGAN designed for unpaired Night-to-Day image translation. IRACycle GAN is a modified CycleGAN incorporating a 4-channel input architecture, simultaneously processing RGB and Infrared (IR) images. This dual-modality approach enables the model to capture visual features from the RGB images and critical thermal information, such as heat signatures and temperature variations in low light environments, by the IR images, significantly enhancing the realism and quality of generated Day RGB images. Unlike traditional CycleGAN, which relies solely on RGB data, IRACycle GAN's generator architecture processes RGB and IR inputs through separate pathways fused to create high-quality Day images. A key innovation is the modified cycle consistency loss, which ensures that thermal features from the IR input are preserved in the Day image, maintaining both visual fidelity and thermal context. Experimental results demonstrate IRACycle GAN's superior performance, with an NIQE score of 4.5, a BRISQUE score of 39.32, and an FID score of 15.5. These results highlight IRACycle GAN's ability to generate more natural, realistic, and contextually accurate images by effectively integrating RGB and IR data. The model's enhanced performance makes it suitable for surveillance, autonomous vehicles, and thermal mapping applications, where visual and thermal information are critical for accurate interpretation and decision-making in challenging environments. © 2025 IEEE.

Changes in the Atmospheric Electric Field Signal(AEFS)are highly correlated with weather changes,especially with thunderstorm ***,little attention has been paid to the ambiguous weather information implicit in AEFS *** this paper,a Fuzzy C-Means(FCM)clustering method is used for the first time to develop an innovative approach to characterize the weather attributes carried by ***,a time series dataset is created in the time domain using AEFS *** AEFS-based weather is evaluated according to the time-series Membership Degree(MD)changes obtained by inputting this dataset into the ***,thunderstorm intensities are reflected by the change in distance from a thunderstorm cloud point charge to an AEF ***,a matching relationship is established between the normalized distance and the thunderstorm dominant MD in the space ***,the rationality and reliability of the proposed method are verified by combining radar charts and expert *** results confirm that this method accurately characterizes the weather attributes and changes in the AEFS,and a negative distance-MD correlation is obtained for the first *** detection of thunderstorm activity by AEF from the perspective of fuzzy set technology provides a meaningful guidance for interpretable thunderstorms.

Green-hydrogen production is vital in mitigating carbon emissions and is being adopted *** its transition to a more diverse energy mix with a bigger share for renewable energy,United Arab Emirates(UAE)has committed to investing billions of dollars in the production of green *** study presents the results of the techno-economic assessment of a green-hydrogen-based commercial-building microgrid design in the *** microgrid has been designed based on the building load demand,green-hydrogen production potential utilizing solar photovoltaic(PV)energy and discrete stack reversible fuel cell electricity generation during non-PV *** the current market conditions and the hot humid climate of the UAE,a performance analysis is derived to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of this *** study aims at maximizing both the building microgrid’s independence from the main grid and its renewable *** results indicate that the designed system is capable of meeting three-quarters of its load demand independently from the main grid and is supported by a 78%renewable-energy *** economic analysis demonstrates a 3.117-$/kg levelized cost of hydrogen production and a 0.248-$/kWh levelized cost for storing hydrogen as ***,the levelized cost of system energy was found to be less than the current utility costs in the *** analysis shows the significant impact of the capital cost and discount rate on the levelized cost of hydrogen generation and storage.
