This paper investigates the application of Explainable AI (XAI) techniques in evaluating the features of indoor positioning systems, with a focus on improving model transparency and interpretability. Indoor positioning systems, crucial for location-based services in complex environments, rely heavily on machine learning models that often operate as black boxes. By performing SHAP (Shapley Additive explanations) and LIME (Local Interpretable Model-agnostic Explanations), this study aims to determine the most influential features by driving model predictions and provide a deeper understanding of their roles within the system. In this study, we investigate the features of RSSI values to check their importance and interactions, enhance the interpretability of the model through SHAP and LIME analyses, and guide future improvements in system accuracy and reliability.

In 1979 Fukushima developed a hierarchical, multilayered neural network called Neocognitron and used it for the automatic recognition of handwritten Japanese symbols. We combined the Neocognitron classifier with a special image and segment processor and applied the system in 2001 for automatic recognition of license plates in laboratory experiments. In this paper we report about a special image acquisition module and a postprocessor. We tested the system in real life conditions in an application of automated access control. © 2022 IEEE.

Wheat field fires pose a significant threat to wildlife habitats, agricultural resources, and especially farmer incomes. The frequency of these fires has increased noticeably in recent years, likely due to human activity in agricultural areas and the exacerbating effects of climate change. Rapid action is crucial once smoke is detected, as it marks the first step in early fire detection. To address this challenge, we propose an enhanced CNN model specifically designed to identify smoke in wheat field fires. As part of this approach, a dataset of 3900 UAV images was compiled to depict smoke from wheat field fires. The proposed work also integrates the CBAM into the CNN to improve the model’s ability to extract features for smoke patch characteristics of wheat field fires. Furthermore, the CNN architecture includes decoupled heads to extract relevant data from various sources. Testing on our wheat field fire smoke dataset has demonstrated the effectiveness of this proposed method, achieving an accuracy of up to 0.91 and outperforming the previous model.

This paper proposes the design of metamaterial surfaces based on interdigital coplanar waveguide (CPW) unit cells. By using this technique, the unit cell can have negative permeability with size reduction to λ/8. The result causes from the slow wave effect on transmission line in the structure, which electrical and physical lengths of transmission line are not equal from that effect. The proposed matamaterial surfaces at some resonant frequencies have been designed and used as reflectors and directors applied for antenna applications. Using the designed reflectors or directors, the antenna performances have been increased. The proposed metamaterial surfaces will be appropriate for modern wireless communication systems. © 2023 IEEE.

Iot has great benefits in all areas of life, such as factories, transportation, and airports. In this paper, a solution for monitoring the machines in a wet wipes papers factory is proposed. This factory face a problem in controlling the machines outside the working hours. One of the problems is dissolving the glue using to seal the wet wipes paper container by the heater machine about one hour before the workers come to the factory in the morning. To solve this problem, A system can be used to monitor the heater machine and this machine can be controlled online using IOT technology. Cyclists can experience psychological flow while cycling. Experiencing flow simultaneously is foundational to reaching shared flow in groups, which has unique and highly desirable characteristics. Notably, in research on affective computing and cycling experience, very little is known about flow in duos of cyclists. To address this knowledge gap, this study investigates if and how simultaneous flow (SF) during cycling experiences can be measured via sensor data and supported by personalizing assistance levels of e-bike motors. We collected heart rate, cadence, and position data, as well as self-reports of individual flow, from 10 duos of elderly cyclists, a demographic with increasing e-bike usage. Our XGBoost and Shapley values analysis shows that SF can be identified in heart rate, cadence, and position data. The personalization of motor assistance seemed to disrupt SF in our sample, possibly because our duos were well-adjusted already. Our findings support the development of real-time, objective identification of SF, which helps expert evaluations and biofeedback systems. Altogether, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to offer a valuable and innovative approach for measuring and supporting SF.

Wilga 2022 Summer Symposium on Photonics Applications and Web engineering was the 50th edition of the research and technical meetings series. Traditionally, the whole week lasting annual series of technical conferences and topical sessions was split to one winter meeting in January and two summer events in May/June, and in September 2022. The hybrid meetings were held in Wilga resort near Warsaw, owned by the Warsaw University of Technology and in Lublin. Nearly 100 participants took part in all of the Wilga 2022 events, most of them being young researchers active in all aspects of photonics, electronics and ICT science and technology. Wilga Symposium embraces hardware and software technologies associated with photonics like optics, optical engineering, optoelectronics, electronics and electrical engineering, mechatronics, chemical and material engineering, applied physics, industrial solutions and applications. Around 100 papers were presented during Wilga 2022, oral and poster. Out of this number, some papers chosen by authors are published in this volume of Proc. SPIE mostly related to photonics. The major change was that during Wilga 2020, 2021 and 2022 Symposia, during summer editions, no traditional large young researcher sessions at large were possible to be organized. © 2022 SPIE. This study addresses linear attacks on remote state estimation within the context of a constrained alarm rate. Smart sensors, which are equipped with local Kalman filters, transmit innovations instead of raw measurements through a wireless communication network. This transmission is vulnerable to malicious data interception and manipulation by attackers. The aim of this research is to identify the optimal attack strategy that degrades the system performance while adhering to stealthiness constraints. A notable innovation of this paper is the direct association of the attack's stealthiness with the alarm rate, diverging from traditional approaches that rely on the covariance of the innovation or the Kullback-Leibler divergence, which are conventional metrics that have been extensively explored in previous studies. Our findings reveal that the optimal attack strategy exhibits some structural characteristics in systems of low dimensions. The performance of the proposed attack strategy is demonstrated through numerical examples. © 2024 IEEE.

Seizure detection and prediction are a very hot topics in medical signal processing due to their importance in automatic medical diagnosis. This paper presents three efficient frameworks for applications related to electroencephalogram (EEG) signal processing. The first one is an automatic seizure detection framework based on the utilization of scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) as an extraction tool. The second one depends on the utilization of the fast Fourier transform (FFT) and an artificial neural network for epileptic seizure prediction. Finally, an automated patient-specific framework for channel selection and seizure prediction is presented based on FFT. The simulation results show the success of the proposed frameworks for automated medical diagnosis. © 2021, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

We pose and study a scheduling problem for an electric load to develop an Internet of Things(IoT)control system for power appliances,which takes advantage of real-time dynamic energy *** historical pricing data from a large *** supplier,we study and compare several dynamic scheduling policies,which can be implemented in a smart home to activate a major appliance(dishwasher,washing machine,clothes dryer)at an optimal time of the day,to minimize electricity *** formulate our scheduling task as a supervised machine learning classification problem which activates the load during one of two preferred time *** features used in the machine learning problem are hourly market,spot and day-ahead prices along with delayed label of the prior *** find that boosting tree-based algorithms outperform any other classification approach with measurable reduction of energy costs over certain types of naive and static *** observe that the delayed label has most predictive power across features,followed,on average,by spot,hourly market,and day-ahead energy *** further discuss implementation issues using a micro controller system coupled with cloud-based serverless computing and dynamic data *** test system includes an interactive voice interface via an intelligent personal assistant.
